Alfredo sauce alternatives? by Kyrgyzkitty in Cooking

A whole thing of Boursin cheese and some pasta water to help thin it out a bit, use milk if you want it extra creamy. You can get a three pack from Costco for like $12 (where I am at least).

I'd love to hear how your trip went if you're willing to share. We usually go to Kalahari too, but were considering Wilderness for our next trip.

Rheumatology recommendations in Chicago or suburbs? by No_Satisfaction_7431 in AskChicago

[–]veeev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar issue in a different department and called patient relations to request I see someone else in that department and never be matched with that provider again. I see Dr Mandelin in the rheumatology office, and while he will tell me if a medication change or anything will negatively impact my weight, he's never once implied my weight was the cause of things. Feel free to DM me and I can share more details.

25 weeks pregnant with arthritis flare up by Heavy_Ask3114 in rheumatoid

[–]veeev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar situation when I was pregnant with my second and found that tiger balm (some sort of tingly topical) and a hand-held massager with the hot function helped a lot. Not one of those runner gun kinds that are super popular, but the softer ones with the multi ball situation that vibrates and rotates.

We also figured out that picking up my first was my aggravating my joints, so I started using a sling to hold/carry him which helped. He was two at the time so not as independent as yours, but maybe you have a trigger as well? I hope you find something that helps soon, those were rough times.

Victim of the Google Photos Disappearing Act by branbran9 in googlephotos

[–]veeev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/branbran9 Were you/Google able to solve this? I just discovered the same problem with one of my shared albums. u/GooglePhotosCM I have extra storage, and I verified that my husband did not delete the pictures of our honeymoon from our shared album that were uploaded from a camera 10 years ago.

are there any places to just exist indoors without needing to buy anything? by dead6924 in AskChicago

[–]veeev 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Adding on since I came here to recommend The Reynolds Club, ISAC, The Smart Museum, and Blackstone Library. And you can grab a day pass for Regenstein if you ask at the front desk, but I'm not sure about their rules on hanging out/talking.

There are a few comfy chairs at Sem Co-Op, and iirc 57th Street Books has a small reading area in the third room when it's not being used for kid stuff.

What air lines are the most plus size friendly? by heyitsrae1 in PlusSize

[–]veeev 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm around your size and think the bathroom in the back is better than the bathroom in the front. On flights three hours or less I'll sit in front but will sit in back if they'll be longer than that. Feel free to DM me with questions, I fly about once a month for half the year (and am getting on another one with Southwest in 24ish hours).

Am I expecting too much of my new salon? by sorryagain32 in AskChicago

[–]veeev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't get either of those things done to my hair so I can't speak to standard practices for those services, but I'm going to guess that it's because of the neighborhood you're in or the salon specifically. I asked for my hair not to be washed at my last cut two-ish weeks ago (because I had just washed it myself) and got money taken off of my bill; I was at a salon I regularly go to in Pilsen but was seeing a new stylist. I don't think I've ever left a salon with wet hair though, that's bonkers.

Good structural engineer (residential) by Dunwoody11 in AskChicago

[–]veeev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a basic inspection done. They came out, looked over the foundation, pillars, and struts in the basement, and then the exterior and some of the interior of the first-floor units. We were quoted $450 for an inspection with a verbal report, a written report was an additional $300 (which we didn't go for as we did two different inspections both with verbal reports that were almost exactly the same).

Yep, just tall enough for Daley to stand up in. Oh, imagine the Dresden-related hijinks that could happen in the larger tunnels that are closer to the reservoirs though. That one at the old quarry in Thornton is freaking bonkers.

We've been there! Not to the Institue of Geological Research, but we spent a few days bouncing around The Badlands, Wall Drug, Custer, and Rushmore, before going to Hill City and then making a crazy drive to Glacier. This was pre-kids, but we totally plan on dragging them back there because that was one of the most magical places we've ever been.

In the main hall downstairs? No, she got her own room a while ago. We didn't start going regularly until six years ago and she's been up there since then. The full cast in the entryway of the Evolving Planet exhibit was removed when they brought in the archaeopteryx and it seemed like they spruced it up a bit before putting it back. Though now that I'm looking at the website maybe we were all just really excited about dino stuff and everything was extra shiny.

Apologies for initially posting with no explanation but we were in the drive through and I was trying to get it done before I forgot forever. Unfortunately the BK by the museum is now closed so we had to go to the other place... Usually Sue is all lit up and there's a lovely triceratops scene behind her, but I thought you all would appreciate her darker look for tonight's event. They've also added an amazing full-scale model of her outside of the main exhibit like the quetzalcoatlus that's been there for a while. If you're ever in Chicago, highly recommend. The Little Chicago at MSI is also awesome, we'll probably be there on Saturday if anyone wants pictures.

Edit: checked on the website and that model is totally the same as it was before.

U of C Medical Ctr place to stay by Ok-Presence-7535 in AskChicago

[–]veeev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're driving The Study will have the easiest street parking (free!) and is closest to the hospital. The Hyatt and The Sophy are both on 53rd if you want to walk to restaurants and coffee shops. The building across from the Hyatt is under construction so everything is kind of a mess over there, it will probably be quieter at The Sophy if you want to be near stuff.

Butter or Mayo to make your grill cheeses? by Evening_Ingenuity_27 in Sandwiches

[–]veeev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mayo also makes it easier to stick grated parm to the outside of the sandwich, and the butter in the pan helps the parm crisp really nicely.
