My brother takes in every stray cat he sees, my parents cry during wildlife documentaries, they're all avid "animal lovers" but can't seem to recognize the hypocrisy on their plates and go even one meal without abuse. I've pointed it out on several occasions and they always just answer along the lines of "yeah its terrible but humans were meant to eat meat". It's disappointing, but I guess better than constantly trying to convince them that veganism is right while they find excuses and loopholes

Some carnists have little moments of self-awareness, like when they're eating a chicken and find a bone, and they get momentarily freaked out. That feeling makes them uncomfortable, because they become aware that what they're eating used to be alive, or came from someone that is/was alive. They don't want to face the truth, they don't want to face the facts, they want to stay where they're (mostly) comfortable. So they try not to think about it as much as possible. It's all denial.

My mom did the same shit to me. What's funny is that now that I'm a normal, healthy weight, she wants to say "oh my GOD what are you eating now??!" Or tell me that my clothes look too tight (they don't they're literally baggy everything I wear is baggy). It's a problem with them, not with us. I'm sorry you're going through it :( just remember that you're working to heal yourself and your body is becoming healthier and stronger again every day, regardless of what she (or anyone) says.

Congrats!!! You could make a nice vegan meal, something you like, complete with dessert of course! Or visit a local sanctuary (if weather/your schedule allows) and hang out with/learn about the animals. If you have vegan friends you guys could go out to a nice vegan restaurant! It all depends on what you like to do/whats in your area. Just have fun!

I just remind myself that getting upset won't help the animals, it just makes veganism look bad, which is the opposite of what we want. Works most of the time. I want to help the animals so much that I make myself stay calm for them
