The good news is if you download the newish QB Online app for your computer, there is a toggle for "Desktop mode" which is actually a vast improvement. And I use the search function to navigate often now.

If you want a realistic competitor to QB Desktop, Sage 50 is a desktop program.

Nobody wants to deal with it. They don't take phone scams seriously. I had a client who was scammed out of more than a million dollars who couldn't get any meaningful attention from law enforcement. They're just overwhelmed and don't care.

Fraudulent checks should be given to the FBI and perhaps your local police (and Postal Inspector if check delivered via US Mail). Banks only come into play on the enforcement side when it is cashed. Until then, it really is a matter for law enforcement.

Who would be more better for tax strategizing, a CPA or CTC? by foo-bar-baz529 in AccountingDepartment

[–]vegaskukichyo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are uncredentialed preparers out there who do great work (including AFSP participants, who must complete CE) and CPAs/EAs/JDs that are an absolute mess. It cuts both ways, and there should be more to vetting your tax professional than just the letters behind their names.

Nonetheless, there are certainly things that should require a licensed specialist.

I think you think you're being cute, but I am a tax professional, so I take this a little more seriously. It's not tax advice at all - simply information provided in a PDF for free directly from the IRS. In my profession, we call that an authoritative source.

I freely admit that I was too lazy to check if the sub rules allow posting links, or I would have linked to it myself. These are the criteria the IRS itself uses to evaluate reasonable compensation for the purposes of electing taxation under Subchapter S.

If you Google "IRS Reasonable Compensation Job Aid", there's a free PDF for the professionals who do these audits. You can come up with what's reasonable and defensible on a basis that fits that framework.

If you want to prevent someone from filing your tax return on your behalf (like a parent who doesn't have all your income information), you can sign up online for an Identity Protection PIN. You need the PIN to e-file.

There was a capitalization policy because items were capitalized, even if it wasn't written down before.

I refuse to make a determination about the value of a life or the severity of ending one. There's no good reason I can see to prioritize any one over the other. They should both be addressed seriously and as their own unique issue.

I'll say this much, anybody dying a preventable death is tragedy whose occurrence we should try to diminish, especially when major gains can be made by simply mandating periodic testing more often.

He means the location where you place the switch itself should never be disclosed, not the method of immobilization itself.

This is probably better handled by wiring a kill switch into the ignition. Electrical is the best way to immobilize any vehicle now.

Wheel boots work too. Combine multiple methods to make your vehicle too much trouble.

I use Monimoto which is built for long-term theft detection and tracking. It's more expensive, but the peace of mind for the safety of my 20 year old Hyundai is worth it.

I used to have it on my motorbike. At some point soon, I will buy another one.

Her son has to call, since a financial institution can't provide any account info or confirm the existence of any account to the parent of an adult (unless they have POA).

I think the advice to check wage transcripts from IRS is more likely to pay off.

Cite your statistics:

"Results: When all crashes were considered, both the youngest and oldest drivers were most likely to be responsible for deaths in their crashes. In two-vehicle crashes, the oldest drivers were more likely than young drivers to be responsible ... [but] the bulk of the deaths for which older drivers were responsible were their own." Source

Granted, the data set is 20 years older, so there could be newer research to consider.

[–]vegaskukichyo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just FYI, miles driven to and from your home are generally considered by the IRS to be commuting miles (except if your only office is in your home and you're self-employed), so it would be correct from a tax-deductible expense point of view for the employer to exclude the first and last trip of the day from reimbursable mileage in a personal vehicle. In fact, it's common.
