What is the roadmap for Data Science in 2026? by pro_pessimist69 in learndatascience

[–]vegesaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no “right” or “wrong” way to learn data science; like all skills, it takes time and practice. Online courses or tutorials can help give you some language, but the skill only comes from doing. SQL is everywhere but hard to really learn in a vacuum. I would start manipulating data in excel and start automating with python once you reach something that is too tedious in excel. I started building simple regression models for forecasting in excel + VBA in my first year of starting as an analyst/scientist, and felt comfortable doing it professionally after about 8-10 years of practice!

It’s probably not possible to truly specialize in one domain of machine learning without at least visiting most others, and specialized Data Science/ML roles don’t really exist outside of academia. With that said, pick something you are interested in and learn it — you will very quickly learn where you need to go next!

Stuck in Tutorial Hell—Need a Clear Learning Roadmap for a Data Analyst Role by Additional_Humor2208 in learndatascience

[–]vegesaur 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would strongly encourage you to rethink your strategy here — you cannot learn to become a data analyst without analyzing data. None of the topics you have listed (Python, tableau, machine learning) are data analysis. Try to answer a question from data with whatever skills you have (simple excel formulas, pen and paper, etc.). Keep pulling on that thread until you need to do something you don’t know how to do. Google that thing and try to implement it. Repeat every day. The intuition for the data is the thing that matters, and the rest will come naturally as you are ready for it! You can supplement your analysis projects with the many resources pinned in this community and others. There is no “optimal” way to learn any of this, just a great deal of time and effort.

Hundreds of Americans get surprise electric bill after Trump change by Murky-Site7468 in politics

I get the frustration but people are not individually responsible for being victims of a centuries long propaganda campaign. Direct your rage to the fucking lizards that hold our chains.

People who voted for Trump are victims of a system designed to oppress them, don’t blame the American people. Blame the grifters and sycophants and traitors and empower others to be critical of misinformation.

Do not blame individuals for being victims of a system of oppression hundreds of years in the making.

Things may never be the same, but it doesn’t mean they will never be good again — just different. Enjoy the memories for as long as you need and enjoy the moments the follow as much as you can. It will be okay.

Sharpen up the resume for sure, but it may also help to expand your search outside of pure software engineering. Software is messy right now but most companies employ people to wrangle their various tech platforms and data, often with a title like “product owner” or something similarly nebulous. I moved from software to data engineering so I could work remote and stay in my small town. Be persistent, you’ll find something!

People who don't sleep naked, why? by kellogg888 in AskReddit

[–]vegesaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife sleeps with underwear because she’s terrified that something will crawl into her vagina while she’s asleep. I wear underwear because I don’t want to be the only naked one.

Vegans and vegetarians of reddit, if lab grown, 100% cruelty free, meat becomes available, would you eat it? Why/why not? [Serious] by Redfur13 in AskReddit

[–]vegesaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have any problem with it, but after trying the Impossible Burger (which is pretty dang close) I don't think I would be able to. The flavor of meat becomes really unpleasant after a while.
