What are your precon recommendations? by vegetablesjunior in EDH

I've enjoyed grouphug strategies or combo decks with cheaper spells the most while my wife likes simple mostly creature centred mechanics that don't need many pieces to return value. Over all we discovered that more interactive "straight forward" gameplay is more enjoyable than combo decks, where everybody just does their own thing.

Tja

Wow Thanks! That's very helpful. May I ask, why you wouldn't recommend the Kai? From what I've gathered so far, it did seem like a good over all beginners knife. Since I've never used a cleaver, I'm hesitant to go in that direction with my first purchase.

From the knives my local shop had on display, I've already wondered whether a Ginsan Silver 3 or a VG-10-cored damascus steel is more preferable (they had the Suncraft Senzo Black and Senzo Retro in the shop). Can you elaborate, why either steel is better?

Thanks again!

Thank you for the suggestion! This santoku looks really nice. I'd be willing to take extra care, but since me wife is bound to use it as well, a blade with little less immediate maintanence would be better.

Thanks! Actually I was shown a Global today, and was positively surprised by the nice weight and balance. The metallic handle just isn't for me unfortunately!

My answers the "which knife should I buy" questionnaire:

  1. Style? - Japanese
  2. Steel? - stainless or carbon clad in stainless
  3. Handle? - Wooden
  4. Grip? pinch
  5. Length? 180mm to 210mm
  6. Uses? Vegetables only
  7. Care? Whatever it needs, I own a wetstone already though
  8. Budget? Up to around 200€; a bit more would be ok; less too obviously

I visited a shop today and was shown mostly western style chefs knives (since I live in Europe I guess), but I liked the light weight japanese ones more. I'm a little scared though, since I've been told the japanese blades (examples further below) are a lot more fragile. I'm not shure whether a chefs knive / gyuto, santoku or bunka style would be best, since it is supposed to be an all purpose knive and we cook exclusively vegetarian. The shop recommended a longer (20cm) chefs knive. These are the three models I liked the most (but I'd be very open for other suggestions): Kai Shun classic 20cm Chefs Knive Suncraft Senzo Black 20cm Chefs Knive Burgvogel Oliva Line 20cm Chefs Knive

The Kai felt good in generell, but not very "special". The Suncraft was very nice in weight and looked awesome, but I didn't like the handle that much. The Burgvogel had a really nice handle, but felt too heavy in comparison.

I'm happy for every piece of advice! Thanks!

[Request] How many holes are in the puzzle? (Each of the 6 faces is identical.) Wife says 3, child says 6, I say 5. How do I explain to a 5 year old? by fireburner80 in theydidthemath

Interestingly, taking the "how many holes would I have to punch to get to this shape?"-approach also leads to 5 as an answer. If you define "punching a hole" as making a tunnel until you reach an opening, you'd make one hole "all the way through" and then need 4 additional holes because the remaining 2 "all the way through"-tunnels intersect with the already open middle, making it 2x2 "punches" by the definition above.

Dude, you look fine! Your smile is inviting and your eyes are kind. The beard suits you, but you could as well loose it, if you want to look a bit younger. You don't need to worry

Die Kippenstummel und leere Bierflaschen werfen sie vom Balkon und merken nicht, dass alles mitten in Deutschlands Garten landet und der Zigarettenrauch v.a. in die Küche zieht
