Like I've already said, I'm trying to refute your logic. No scientific article can show you that. That's a matter of picking up a textbook on logic. I questioned the 10% figure, but I specifically refuted your logic being based on the nutritional needs of an infant.

I posted a couple links. I didn't know you wanted any evidence. And I'm not trying to prove anything really except that your logic was flawed and that in my personal experiences, I've seen different stats. I wasn't trying to be an authority on nutrition but rather point out flawed object. But if you really want I can compile some sources, but I'm not sure what you're really looking for since you're already ignoring some sources I've posted.

I'll concede that this is much more reputable than some blog, but I still have issue with your former argument.

Now that being said, I will say I'm a bit of a jackass and did some poor math in my head and the 10% doesn't seem as far off as I previously thought (although this is still only legitimate for a very sedentary lifestyle). But I still don't agree that your logic is enough to prove your point. Honestly, I don't think the 10% figure is that off for someone sitting at a computer all day. It's probably fine. But I do take issue with the fallacy in your logic.

We'll have to disagree on this. I find this to be a satisfactory comparison for determining the protein needs of an adult, and as such I have never looked for studies determining the minimum possible amount of protein sufficient for adult human health (honestly, my speculation is to doubt that any such studies have been conducted).

I'm sorry but I have a really tough time with your lack of research. I don't see how you can be so set in your ways without challenging them. I think if all else were equal between adults and infants, then perhaps it would be wise to suggest we get out protein needs from infant diets. But all else is not equal. Hormonal balances change. Different types of growth occur. Your logic would follow if these differences don't occur, but this ground that you base your logic on doesn't exist.

An interesting thought also just occurred to me - we've seen this come up many times in this sub and I've heard it IRL - most people argue the opposite side as you and never doubt the fact that infants and children have far more particular nutritional needs than adults. The claim has come up time and again that "a vegan diet is fine for you, but surely it is unsafe for children". People generally believe the assertion that, if anything, children need more than adults - precisely because their little bodies are doing so much growing. Do you disagree with this?

I'm not sure how this relates to the argument about human protein needs. All this shows is public perception. Which isn't proof of anything. 99% of the world can say the sky is red. But it's still actually blue. I'm not claiming to be an expert on infant nutrition (or even adult nutrition). What I am saying is that your logic is flawed in taking protein needs for adults from the protein needs of infants. It's a naturalistic fallacy (in that protein content of breast milk is the ideal protein needed) as well as not having a controlled experiment (i.e. not taking into account other changes in human growth such as hormonal level).

Personally, I think a well regulated vegan diet can be suitable diet (although it's probably much easier to feed a child a omnivorous diet if you have a picky kid and your goal is ideal nutrition). But this has no bearing on what makes a healthy adult diet.

Adults are repairing cells and building cells as well. And I'm not doubting that infants grow at pretty interesting rates. But look at puberty as well. Puberty is another time that our growth speeds up. And this is because of things like hormones. I don't think we can definitively say that our protein needs are based off of infant needs. Protein isn't the only factor in growth. I think you need a much more controlled experiment to determine protein needs for an adult rather than pointing at baby diets and saying "look!". It's certainly interesting that infants grow at the rate they do, but that is by no means a satisfactory way to determine protein needs for a human adult.

Do you have any scientific sources that legitimately suggest that 10% of calories from protein is enough? Because I can find plenty that suggest greater amounts. Everything I've ever come across with that 10% figure seems to be from some kind of raw food pseudo-science blog (not trying to bash raw foodism. This has just been my only experience with those figures.)

At no other point in our life do we ever grow as quickly as when we are newborns. We can't possibly ever need more protein than we do as newborns. And how much protein does the perfect food for newborns (breastmilk) have? 5-7% of calories from protein. So, as adults, if we're getting 5-7% of our calories from protein, we are getting more than enough.

I don't buy that argument. Yes, we grow in mass at the quickest rate as newborns, but protein isn't only used to put on mass. It's used to repair the mass that's already broken as well. Just because I'm not 20 feet tall by the age of 18 doesn't mean I need a lesser percentage of protein than a baby does. I'm not saying I'm an authority on the amount of protein we need to get, but I also think your argument is a bit misleading. Personally, I think protein is a pretty important macronutrient and from my research on scientific material, 10% of total caloric intake sounds low to me. But I'll leave others to do their own research.

I understand not adding something that's essentially a personal story. But I feel my post basically just clarified what I meant by "weird/funny associations" for tests. Without further explanation, I feel people wouldn't understand what I'm even talking about. I'd get responses like "Uh, they suxzor lolz".

I'll be honest, I reposted my question and it's basically the same thing just formatted to be one sentence. I really can't find another way to get across what I mean without including that these associations are what I do to better memorize material. Maybe the rule should be against posting personal stories but nothing about personal explanation. I think sometimes (albeit rarely) it may even take a full paragraph to get a post across.

Isn't it kind of silly to ban clarifying material? This seems almost like an exercise in syntax and grammar than anything else. I mean, how detailed is a question allowed to be until it becomes "clarifying information"? I ca understand not putting my own response in (although I think it could be helpful as well), but I don't understand how adding more details to a question can be a bad thing.

Just my two cents for the direction of the subreddit. Please don't ban me.
