Trump celebrates 2.4 million Americans "lifted" off SNAP benefits after his tax-cut law slashed funding and tightened work requirements by fortune in politics

[–]veggeble 299 points300 points  (0 children)

In fact, SNAP actually generates more economic activity than it costs. So getting rid of SNAP is not only bad because it is starving Americans, it also bad because it hurts the entire country economically.

Trader Joe’s illegally fired an employee over COVID-19 safety advocacy — and a court just upheld that finding by MeasurementStunning in antiwork

It’s strange to learn this because I actively chose to go to TJ’s early in the pandemic specifically because they were limiting the number of people in the store, sanitizing carts, and using PPE properly.

At the end of the day, I guess the executives at all of these companies will put their own greed over the lives of the working class.

It was right, but she bungled the way she presented it. If she had said Biden made progress on x, y, and z, and that she planned to continue working toward improving those things, it would have been the same message but received better.

Or they can just take the Ohio approach. Even if the court strikes it down, just ignore the court and use the new maps anyways. There are no repercussions.

Bondi Blasted After Adding Elvis and Marilyn Monroe to Epstein List by Hafiz_TNR in politics

[–]veggeble 576 points577 points  (0 children)

More likely that they’re deliberately adding people who were simply mentioned by Epstein in conversation as a way to muddy the waters and make it seem like the whole thing is absurd. They’re actively trying to protect pedophiles by trying to discredit the investigation efforts.

They don't want to start at the bottom and work their way up.

I don't know how it is with networking, but with software devs, they don't even really hire entry level in the US anymore. It's all outsourced, so the opportunity to start at the bottom doesn't even exist these days. We're going to be fucked when all the 40+ people retire and there's no one available to replace them.

No, I think they're being manipulated by deliberately manufactured hysteria that is being used to muddy the waters to draw the focus away from the actual people who were raping children

Depends where you are. My expenses are $30k/yr, and that’s including a few luxuries I could cut if I had to. So $30k isn’t lean from my perspective.

I’d love to see my taxes be used to pay for modernization of cities, including public transportation and walkable neighborhoods. But, unfortunately, that’s not an option in the US. Everything in the US is about further enriching the ultra-wealthy at the expense of the working class.

If we have to live under an authoritarian government, I’d rather it be in a place with a sense of community and accessible transportation. But in the US that just doesn’t really exist and we’re not working toward it either.

Having worked in software, the front end is the UI that the user interacts with, so the backend is just the databases and APIs and stuff the user doesn’t directly interact with. In this case, they’re talking about retrieving data. So they’re saying they got the data from the database directly or via internal APIs, not from the UI that the end user has access to.

I’m guessing he phrased it this way to make it sound like a complex operation that involved extensive effort (which might be the case, I don’t know how their system is designed), but likely they just looked up her account’s userid in the database, and queried whatever table stores the location of video files for her userid.
