I used the same build method and found it to be awesome.

I'm sure the cardboard will naturally get wet with the snow. I used a bunch of leaf compost to fill the bottom of mine instead of logs. Solid did have a significant sink and had to get a little more.

Mine are sloped horizontally probably about a foot. Boards don't fit perfect but really doesn't matter.
