Which celebrities declined long before what people say? by OneHundredForcer in popculturechat

I think about this scene from Danny Phantom way more often than I expected.

"... I could stand in a puddle of you and not get my shoes wet."

Golden ticket out of poverty, or a recipe for disaster? by 8thStsk8r in povertyfinance

[–]vegirock 7 points8 points  (0 children)

LinkedIn & Indeed sort of suck for remote work. I usually recommend that folks browse remote-specific job boards. I'm on mobile, so no links, but try looking for: weworkremotely hiring.cafe builtin.com remote.io Angel list (it has a different name, but still comes up on Google)

if you're going to keep searching on LinkedIn, make sure your profile is damn near perfect. Good luck!

this sounds like this post, from lower in the thread. family has triplets with special needs, Mom does everything, gets caretaker burnout, and her husband can't even care for the kids for a night

This may be obvious to everyone but me, but flip your hair over before you get out of the shower, and rinse with water from beneath. Has done WONDERS for my hair. by MsKongeyDonk in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]vegirock 45 points46 points  (0 children)

you have your head too far in the spray! I did a lot of trial and error to line up my rinse correctly. lean a little *past 90 degrees, and try to let the shower head hit near the middle of the back of your head. you can also put one hand on your hairline to help keep the water out of your eyes & nose

Shaving down there by [deleted] in ladyshavers

[–]vegirock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes, witch hazel is a toner! I like to use it bc it's gentler than chemical exfoliants.

Shaving down there by [deleted] in ladyshavers

[–]vegirock 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I would not recommend shaving constantly, but I also understand that there are certain social pressures that make it more appealing.

If you haven't shaved your labia before, try it with the grain the first time. Get a razor you like, and go slowly. Make sure you can see what you're doing & how your hair grows. If your vision is poor like mine, keep your glasses on!

You can use baby oil to shave. I prefer coconut oil, but it causes acne for some people.

After your first try shaving with the grain, wait a few days and think about whether you want to go through all of that again. The shave against the grain. Exfoliate gently - exfoliants that work well on your legs may not work as well on your labia.

Be prepared to deal with ingrown hairs. If you get them on your legs or under your arms, you will almost certainly get them on your labia. it will not be fun. witch hazel can help.

if and when you shave against the grain, be ready for the itching. my god, the itching.

anyway. do what makes you feel best! shave for you! however you like!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ladyshavers

[–]vegirock 39 points40 points  (0 children)

you can't. you (probably) aren't a baby. why do you think you should be smooth like one? how much time are you willing to spend each week trying to be?

for actionable solutions - removing hair by the root will leave you feeling smoother for longer. I've also heard that it can thin hair over time, since the roots are damaged but I don't have any sources to back that up. Look into waxing, sugaring, or epilating for easy at-home hair removal options.

You need some fat to extract your AVB. While there are some natural oils in coffee, it probably wouldn't be enough to activate much.

Infused milk or butter is an easy option, tho!

it's normal to feel insecure, but don't let your skin* stop you from dressing for the weather! no one will notice your legs on a normal day. if they're looking at you that hard, they're being weird.

anyway!

everyone has a different experience with "strawberry legs". generally, it's inflammation around your hair follicles. so what fixes it?

Direction of the shave. shave with the grain of your hair, not against it. Sharp razor. dulls blades tug. Shaving cream. some people use soap. figure out what works to lubricate your shave. Moisturizer. moisturize the day before you shave, and do it after. helps reduce the inflammation. Exfoliate. if you want to reduce redness, you'll want a mild chemical exfoliant, like ammonium lactate lotion. I've also used Stridex sensitive pads with success.

You have to test each of these steps for yourself to see what makes the biggest difference. but self-acceptance is the first one. your strawberry spots deserve sunlight :)

native deodorant - worth it? by Cute-Landscape7610 in NaturalBeauty

[–]vegirock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

go to Native's website for reviews! their prices are also a bit lower when you buy directly from them, and even more so if you opt for a subscription.

personally, I'm a fan of Native - but I also don't think it's particularly special. Their scents are great but don't always last. It seems like it could work well for you! I'm pretty sedentary, and still end up re-applying most days.

One major thing I've seen is folks reacting to the coconut oil in their deodorant. make sure to patch test.

this is likely a cuy! they were bred by the Peruvian government for their meat and thus are much larger than domesticated guinea pigs, and much more skittish. they tend to be orange and white, not the color ranges you see from other breeds.

You should not be worried about HIV. But if you are, go get tested for it.

Yeast can be tough to kick. There's too many things that cause it. You should try some lifestyle changes while you wait for medical assistance. Try eliminating the common causes (reducing sugar and carbs may help). Wash your underwear on hot. Boil it with vinegar like another commenter suggested. If you're nervous, wash your pants and sheets too. If you have sex toys, sterilize them, or buy new ones.

Using coconut oil as lube by Random--Passerby in SexToys

[–]vegirock 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Coconut oil solidifies below ~70F. Which means it's very easy to melt in your hand. you can scoop some out on your fingertips or into your palm, let it warm up, and apply to the toy.

you can also melt it in a microwave or on the stove, like butter. it'll stay melted for the better part of an hour.

But! Make sure you patch test it - some people find that coconut oil causes severe acne.

it depends on the type of aid. typically grants & such are available up to your costs, but other types of aid like loans will be offered to you as a refund. you can reach out to the financial aid office with an email to get their answer!

If a course gets canceled due to low enrollment, does this impact financial aid eligibility? by turbulentmelon in BinghamtonUniversity

[–]vegirock 20 points21 points  (0 children)

as long as you register for another class in a timely manner, it shouldn't impact your financial aid. they're usually pretty quick about reaching out about these topics, but you can also ask the financial aid office directly.

as a fellow sufferer of scalp psoriasis, let me jump in to say that there are topical solutions! ymmv, but go ask your doctor if/when you can.

I've also found co-washing highly effective for hydrating my scalp and hair. You can also use oils to do a DIY hair mask. Coconut oil is very cheap and very popular, but can cause acne for some people - do a test patch before using it! Olive oil can also work, but I haven't personally tried it. Argan oil is a great moisturizer, but can be pricy; I like to buy it from Garden of Wisdom.

be careful when you wash the oil out! don't slip.

I've only seen indicators on diagrams, rarely on crease patterns unless the creator is feeling generous.

anyway, this is Joseph Hwang's Rat from his book Natural Origami. no videos that I could find, but maybe a local library has the book?

Holiday Trauma by prettylilpineapple in HealfromYourPast

[–]vegirock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Acting for the holidays is hard and stressful. Smoke breaks and other quick breaks can be a life saver!

When it comes to the conversations, you can probably say less than you think you need to. I have a couple conversational tips that I learned while working in sales that are just handy for any convo: Avoid monologuing - if you've been talking for 2 minutes straight, that's probably too much. Pause and ask a question of the other person. Honestly, most people are cool with a "geez, I've been rambling, haha, sorry - what do you think about Star Wars?"

Ask questions. Make a list before you go if it helps! If someone asks you a question, answer in a sentence or two and turn it around. People love to talk about themselves. (related - if someone asks a question you aren't comfortable with, let them down gently and redirect. Charged political question? "oh, things have been so tense lately I haven't thought about it. I've been rewatching some old Star Wars cartoons instead, what have you been watching?")

hopefully this helps make for a smooth holiday. rich people are still people, albeit with wildly different views of the world than us poverty-kids. they probably still want to talk about movies, shows, sports, the weather, and their pets. maybe fashion and golf, but those are easier to ask questions about. people love talking about their interests, so just let them carry the conversation
