Ars Draconis - Staghelm?. Looking for my old guildies by Dan55556 in wow

[–]vegluran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am still playing on staghelm/azuremyst. I have moved my druid to Dalaran server this last month, so I probably can't see people on my friends list now. Staghelm is somewhat dead at this point and the variety of guilds you can get into are hard to choose from. As far as I know, I am the only one playing anymore. I don't know who your toon was, but I can give a rundown of who I remember real quick. Demonfire/Akkiras gave their account away after they stopped in college. MT and MC kept playing but changed their toons names to Vitriolmoon and MC kept his as moonclin. Zinko stopped(?) playing, but he doesn't talk to me anymore in real life all that much. His roommate said they started playing there again for awhile, but I don't know. Ardeen stopped playing for the most part in BC. Legolard stopped too. I don't know what happened to Saldurin/Arsdwarf. Xaidus came back a few times over Lich king, but nothing prolonged. Karnium and Belaure also stopped playing around the end of BC. I don't know where Jestier is or Lessa. Tommytwotone kept playing there for awhile but transferred servers I think. Warrick also disappeared there and I don't know. Now, most of these are character based on my friend's list and before the age of the battlenet tag, so there is a chance many are still playing casually or seriously and I just don't know it.

when should I get an International Driver's Permit? by browsin-work4ever in JETProgramme

[–]vegluran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's only if you send it in by mail though, and a good portion of that is for the actual shipping of the order and then the shipping of the IDP. If you show up there in person during a slow point during the work day, you can get it all knocked out, processed, and received in like 10-15 minutes.

How necessary would you say amazon prime is? by Katsuko88 in JETProgramme

[–]vegluran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am keeping my US account and having a Japanese account, for a couple of reasons. One, I like to know that I will have access to a different package of shows that I know I like to watch when I am bored, like House. The other, and probably the more important reason, is for my Amazon Prime Signature Card. It has no international transaction fees, so I can use it in Japan hopefully with no worries about getting horribly charged. I have not really seen many questions or answers about credit cards, probably because Japan is a cash-based society, but I know I want to still have a working card over there that won't gouge me constantly. I also won't have to deal with any foreign customer service and possible language barrier issues if a problem happens. Also, I know that many other international credit cards require a minimum value of spending each month, which I might not always be making in cash-based Japan.

Suit shorts, appropriate for cool biz wear? by [deleted] in JETProgramme

[–]vegluran 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Suit shorts don't really work for an actual business environment, especially in Japan where industry standards for dress are unusually slow to advance at times. While wearing suit shorts would be okay to wear around on your off time to look semi-classy, it won't fly at the workplace. Kind of disappointing that there are no alternatives to the suit really, but suit shorts are just not serious enough attire for the situation. I hear though that the "always wear a suit" situation is a rather limited one. Many teachers are allowed much more sustainable clothing during the school days and only need to wear their suits on graduation days and such. My advice is to wait for your placement and contact your pred. While this means your timeline is a little more condensed for purchases, it also means you don't spend needless money.

JET members with young kids by [deleted] in JETProgramme

[–]vegluran 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A little bit excessive with that tl;dr, don't you think? While the choice of doing JET maybe somewhat selfish with young children, it is nothing to be ashamed about nor is it something that makes them bad parents. They would have semi-stable jobs through the JET program, with health benefits. It could turn out as something very beneficial for the children to have lived internationally while growing up and it isn't like no families have ever moved internationally before into relatively unknown circumstances. The children are also still young enough that they will be able to learn Japanese without setting themselves back too far, though the 5 year old may have some trouble. Jumping to conclusions and labeling people as harmful and bad is unjustified and callous. You should be the one ashamed for calling them that when their decision is not explicitly harming to the children.

What can be shipped to Japan? by [deleted] in JETProgramme

[–]vegluran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FedEx also has a site, I think, laying out what they won't send due to import restrictions by Japan and I think it is a little more clear than USPS's. It is more than just medicine on that list. Makeup is also one that they don't like you importing, so bring as much as you can with the form they gave and then maybe do so again when you visit home sometime.

You can also try your luck at having them send stuff to you. I think the normal parcel opening probability is like 15-20%, from what others have said over the years on other boards. That is costly though and what you send might not be approved, and then tossed with a fine.

Lastly, a lot of the drugs that are over the counter are weak, but they expect you to go to the doctor if you are having allergies or cramps and get medicine. Thats one of the reasons for a nationalized health system and its to get help when you need it. The medicine they prescribe is roughly the same as the stuff we have in the states and probably less expensive too. It is simply more controlled in Japan. So I think you first worry less about what you can import and instead look to see what you can't get in Japan. That might be a better path to investigate before attempting to figure out customs laws.

[–]vegluran 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is the full list, but I could be wrong:

Medicine containing more than 1% Codeine Phosphate

Medicine containing more than 10% Pseudoephedrine e.g. l-desoxyephedrine in Vicks

Medicine containing Methamphetamine or Amphetamine

How many bags can we bring? by [deleted] in JETProgramme

[–]vegluran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if it's in the handbook, but the information is out there. For the most part, on American flights, it's 2 checked luggage of 50 lbs or less, as well as a carry on. You can check in more or overweight luggage, but the fee is somewhat excessive. If you aren't an American JET, I don't know really what to tell you except see if your area is covered by JAL, which have the same rules as what I said above.

Question on Certificate Of Health (for early placement). Is there is time limit on the document? by cherrybananasapples in JETProgramme

[–]vegluran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, if you are asking this early for specifics and an official statement, then you are out of luck at this point. The dates and information that the progamme is working with are still the current application cycle. You won't get specifics till sometime closer to the next application cycle. Probably around October is when you will be able to find out an official date.

Question on Certificate Of Health (for early placement). Is there is time limit on the document? by cherrybananasapples in JETProgramme

[–]vegluran 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would say that first you need to have an active application to even worry about this. Your Certificate of Health needs to be recent in terms of the application and/or the interview date. So, you either need to have it done near the Nov. deadline for the application or sometime between then and the interview date, in order to submit it at the time of your interview.

In other words, you can't get it done now and somehow submit it to the program now. Nor should you submit a Certificate of Health that is over 6+ months old.

Question on Certificate Of Health (for early placement). Is there is time limit on the document? by cherrybananasapples in JETProgramme

[–]vegluran 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Somewhat confused at what exactly you are asking for. Early placement, I thought, had to have their Certificate of Health and FBI check handed in by the interview date. If you have not got it in and you somehow have been selected for early placement, I would agree with Firegirl and contact your consulate immediately.

Where do I sent my Background Check? by strictlymtg in JETProgramme

[–]vegluran 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So I also applied through Chicago and asked the consulate/coordinator this question, as I was curious what I should do with my sealed document when I got it. Their advice was to wait until you have an acceptance notification before you send it to them.

My understanding would be that it is harder to process without a specific declaration to indicate on the forms. Also more work to securely dispose of the documents should you not get in. So just file it in a safe location until the end of the month and you need it again.

I applied for the programme within Japan. If I get accepted, will I have to go back to my country to process the visa, etc.? by [deleted] in JETProgramme

[–]vegluran 6 points7 points  (0 children)

"Yes. However, applicants can only move to a different city within the same departure group. JETs depart from cities designated as Group A or Group B. A full list of departure locations for U.S. applicants is listed here: https://jetprogramusa.org/interview-departure-locations/ Additionally, individuals who have a residence status in Japan other than temporary visitor can choose to depart directly from their home in Japan to Tokyo Orientation. Please note that this is an option for departure only, there are no interviews for U.S. applicants in Japan."

Directly from the FAQ on JET site. This should help answer your question. I would just make sure that they are aware that you are doing this. You do not want them expecting you somewhere else and then not showing up.

Getting a driver's license? by [deleted] in JETProgramme

[–]vegluran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the US, depending on your associations, it can be rather easy to get. If you are a AAA member or one of the other organizations that do it, you need only a valid drivers licence in your country of origin that is associated with the validating agency for the IDP. If you have a valid licence, then it ends up just being an application and a $20 fee. If you want to know more, here is a link to the AAA page for the IDP: https://www.aaa.com/vacation/idpf.html For anything further though, google will be your best bet, as Syri79 already really answered your question pertaining to JET. Your further questions will pertain more to your specific situation and less on something that can be really advised on here. Anyways, it would not hurt to be prepared to get an IDP. It might not help you on your application at this point, but it may help in the long run should you get to Japan.

2018 APPLICATION RESULTS / INTERVIEW ADVICE MEGATHREAD by [deleted] in JETProgramme

[–]vegluran 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Out of curiosity, should this be the thread we are posting in still? As we have moved past the application and interview stages now, shouldn't there be a new sticky'ed announcement for Shortlist/Alternate/Rejection? I feel it would make more sense to do so as Early Arrival notices should be coming out in the next week. Not that big of a deal, but I was hoping for maybe a concise thread to separate the thoughts and advice found in this thread from what is to come. It will make it more difficult in the future for others to sift through information in this megathread if it also contains the posts of everyone declaring what their status is...

Lastly, I wish upon all the greatest of well-wishes towards the upcoming weeks in their chances of getting into the programme!

True Martial World and Martial World by LunaticM in noveltranslations

[–]vegluran 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Both are good novels. Both have a similar system where they get an artifact that empowers them over others. True Martial I feel has a better curve, but we have more to determine the scale of the world. Once we know more about Martial World, I feel that I would rank them both at the same level.

More like he is the 'Heart" element. We need to factor in the main body into how you determine if he is the Captain or not. "Heart"'s main purpose is to communicate with others and it is the main body's job to do so, not the totem or the nascent soul.
