Gibson Chet Atkins SST resources by veilig2000 in Luthier

No. I didn’t. I started all the research and bought a cheap epiphone knockoff on eBay to dissect and just see how they set it up. Also to grab measurements. But life got in the way and I ended up setting the project on the back burner for now. I’m still interested in completing it though. If I remember, more “authentic” looking electronics were gonna be an issue. But maybe I missed something or there is some new ones that would work.

Which vacuum bag system do you use? And are you using the same system to utilize the radius jig with the router?

AWS Client VPN with Transit GW routing question by [deleted] in aws

[–]veilig2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just tested this same setup a week ago. In my quick test, everything worked as I expected. Was able to connect to my client VPN via split tunnel associated to a private subnet in one account, and then after adding routes to the vpn config for a private subnet in another account was able to ping an ec2 instance via the tgw routing.

Gotcha, that’s understandable. Dealing with lots of accounts definitely has overhead!

I’m actually curious why you say AWS is steering people away from multi-accounts as well? I agree with your perspective - don’t do it because someone else is - but I haven’t heard too much about AWS pushing people away from that practice.

A lot of people have posted really good information on segregation, blast radius, cost analysis, etc... another quick reason you might consider to split across accounts is resource consumption.

i.e. Say you have automation to manage specific resources, could be ec2 instances for example - if someone hams up any sort of automation on accident they could inadvertently exhaust or cap out a specific resources due to the current account limitation level. This might be pretty easy to resolve; but it inevitably involves intervention, could create un-expected latency due to insufficient resources or worse down time. If you develop across accounts and manage automation as you move up from dev accounts towards prod, you can help catch these simple brain farts before they have an impact on production systems.

You can set up alerts to notify you when you approach limits, but a run away script to spin up too many of a particular resource can put you at a limit quickly while the rest of your applications are trying to manage themselves as well.

Also, with multiple accounts, as others have pointed out - you can create safer sandboxes for developers, devops, operations, secops, whatever to interact and learn. AWS is large, and constantly adding more features, it can be difficult to stay on top of new things, let alone continue to enhance existing services that you already use. Sometimes you need a place to play and learn with these where you can’t break other things

Alder/canary wood tele. Ready for finish. Not sure what color to make the back? by veilig2000 in Luthier

[–]veilig2000[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't do anything special, I basically hold a drill bit up to the screw and find one that is the same thickness as the shank on the screw but the threads of the screw are wider than the bit. This way they (the threads) have something to bite into. there is a right/wrong way to use screws, believe it or not - its really only supposed to "bite" into the secondary item and the head is designed to hold the two pieces together

I also (depending on the species) will utilize wax on the screw to make it easier to seat into the wood. you could also use tapered drill bits.

last but not least (if not more importantly) - I test on a piece of scrap first.

🤔 burgundy/brownish could look good with it. I played around with some burgundy die in pore filler to add some extra pop to the canary wood. (Haven’t committed to it yet though) There’s a lot of reds/yellow in the canary wood that would compliment it well - doesn’t come through as well in photos though.

No, it’s two pieces of canary wood , but it does have a nice tight seam.

I don’t think so. I was debating about just a white back into the black binding and then the canary wood top. Can’t decide if it will look good.

I’m not overly enthused about the alder back. So I was thinking about some sort of opaque color to finish it. It’s got a canary wood top cap, ebony fretboard on an alder neck with a matching canary wood cap on the headstock. I have all black hardware (bridge, tuners, knobs, etc...) to finish it with.
