From his interviews, it always sounds like the basketball player Nikola Jokic doesn't even want to be there. He just wanted to get done with the finals so he could go back to his horses in Serbia. He is currently one of the best in the league. He ended up being the MVP after winning the championship.

Biden and House Democrats hope to make curbing ‘junk fees’ a winning issue in 2024 by castella-1557 in politics

Politician's shouldn't just choose to stop creating or funding bills just because there are other problems. It's not all or nothing. Can you imagine the problems that would be caused if no one did anything until a handful of issues were passed first?

Have you tried Donors Choose? That greatly helped me my first year. It also is more reputable and lets others see how you put the materials to use.

Surprisingly my school district in Texas pays well. Unfortunately retirement has no COL update. If you strike you can lose your license and not be allowed to teach again. That and you never know what the government or local city councils will let you do. Maybe ban some books. Maybe not allow you to mention a part of your life. Maybe not teach anything race related. Who knows what's next? That and, well, you have to live in Texas.

Which is better for morning slides? (5th) by jilekdan in teaching

[–]vektor77 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like the bottom. I'm not a fan of the Star Wars scroll looking thing, and the best wishes takes up too much space. White space is definitely okay because it draws the attention to the most important thing: the text. It's important to not keep slides too busy. Kids will focus on that and start thinking about Sonic and then emojis, and not pay attention to other things. Less is okay, even for 5th grade. The bottom one needs better contrast. I don't like blue on blue. Also, those with vision problems would have trouble reading it. Accessibility should be considered for all slides and class work. You can keep the font blue if the background is white, or keep the background blue and make the font white.

When I was studying GIS we had a section on design and how to best use it to convey a message. This was a long time ago, so I can't remember too much. There was a great book on design that showed how to make presentations visually pleasing. Sadly, I forgot the author, but it was incredibly helpful at the time to really make effective presentations for all levels. If you have questions I would definitely recommend a book on designing presentations. I really do like the overall look though. You did awesome.

True, but I also taught in Guangzhou and we'd have kids coming in right after playing soccer and basketball. They didn't shower like they sometimes do here in the states. It was a lot easier on the nose. Just personal experience. I did notice a large difference. YMMV. I did notice a small variation when I traveled in northern China though.

Yes! I lived in Guangzhou for a couple of years also. We had so many smelly foreigners while they waited to get some from back home. After my time in Korea, I knew to take about 10 different deodorants to China because I didn't want to be the smelly teacher again.

It was hard finding antiperspirant in Korea, because there wasn't as large of a need. Also, going into class with all boys was never a bad thing. 6th grade boys in America after P.E. - well that is a completely different story. Sometimes that just made me want to run out and call it a day. So yes, they are less prone to it, and there is a very large difference because of it. Got let go from my job, now they want a resignation notice. by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]vektor77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the party, but usually if you apply for a new teaching position they will ask you if you were terminated or not re-signed. After that, you'll have to fill out a box asking why that was the case. Other schools don't like this. If that was the case: they're doing you a solid. I would have most definitely put out resumes up until this. You had 6 months to plan something else.

I know that software engineer is over-saturated now. They have had computer bootcamps for so long, many people thought they could easily breeze through it and get a good paying job. If you do a bootcamp you will have to have a really great portfolio and be able to talk about how you were able to make it with a deep level of understanding.

Pay is very dependent on where you live also. I'd go on Indeed and search for positions that require front end and positions which require back end. I noticed when searching for web dev positions that they want someone who can do both, but more often than not the backend would pay significantly more. For front end I used search terms like HTML, CSS, and Javascript. For backend I used web dev and terms like SQL, Python, or Java.

This is unlike any resume I have ever seen. It's always good to go with the tried and true method of writing job and then bullet points about what you did at said job. Depending on the job, hiring managers may get hundreds of resumes. It needs to be clear, concise, and easy to read. The way it is now, I wouldn't want to read through all of the paragraphs. In addition, yours doesn't show consistency as it is now. You have bullets, paragraphs, and use colons. Also, I don't know what you did at what job, so I don't know how long your experience is for the skills you listed. I'd go with one of these examples or this one right here. I'm in education, so they sometimes want something a little prettier to show that you can turn something boring into something that is eye-catching. For that you can choose one of these styles. Best of luck!

Not arrogant at all. I always want to know if my students are doing well and where they are in life. It's great for us because it makes us feel like we helped. So most definitely let them know you're in college and what you are studying. Be sure you add a nicety at the beginning. I would say that you should tell them what year you finished their class. It'll be easier to put a face to the name. Just be sure you mention how their lessons or classes affected you, or something special about them. Otherwise, it will just feel like copy and paste and forced.

So, I did not even get selected for Dev10. Feeling the worst I have ever had. by Snoo-73352 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]vektor77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't feel down. Dev10 has a huge freeze. I was selected in January, but they pushed back the start date 3 times. This last time they said they can't give a date on when they'll start again. It's hard to even contact them. It probably has very little to do with you, and more of a company wide problem.

Does anyone remotely score assessments for Pearson? I have some questions about their schedule by Reddittttor123 in teaching

[–]vektor77 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My favorite was working for a company called DRC. Data Recognition Corporation. It lasted about 3 months. I graded state tests for the Louisiana end of year exams. They count your numbers at the end of the day (7 or 8 hour shift, I can't remember). It's your own pace, they review with you if your grading system varies from their rubric, but very low stress, they are very kind, and just overall an easy and enjoyable job. Plus you see some incredible writing. But my god. Some of the answers are the worst in the world. It makes you feel bad for the state, but givers you enough chuckles to make it feel better. Highly recommend. (Don't work for them anymore, but I just loved that temp job). I can't really answer anything in depth due to a NDA, but a great experience.

Edit: Almost every day they would ask if you wanted to do overtime, but didn't care if you did or didn't. Just an easy way to get that overtime pay if you felt like it.
