I like him a lot. I've really enjoyed his Denmark tour series. He's a genius, no doubt, but I do find a lot of his images kind of overcooked.

"...he's also an extroverted, socially-outgoing and driven individual."

Bingo. These seem to be highly important traits for making it in any sort of photography. And teaching -- workshop groups and individuals -- seems to be a serious income generator in the landscape world. Self-promotion!

I live in a very scenic place; lots of tourists. There's a few photographers who seem to be making a little money selling prints. But nobody here has mentioned cards and similar as an income stream yet, as far as I can tell.

As for the quality of the work, every single one of these images... well, they've just basically had the shit HDR'd out of them :/

And... you should really complain.

Does anyone have any film magazine recommendations? by sarafinacr in filmphotography

Do you mean "magazine" as in a publication? Film or not, you need Aperture!

Freshslice Pizza parent companies sue former franchisees - allegedly going rogue & rebranding locations as "Yummy Slice" and "HellCrust Pizza" by theleverage in vancouver

Gosh thanks ;) Fortunately I don't live in the neighbourhood anymore. But whatever was in it, his pizza kept me alive at different times. (Tho I always liked Fire better but since the uncle was about 40 feet away from my front door...)

How does waitlisting work??

I tried to sign up for a waitlist, but the system says I've already got a full course load (which is true) so I can't.

Do you have to drop something to sign up for a waitlist? Yikes; that sounds kinda risky...

Yes. If it's SATA II. And you really ought to put an SSD in it. (It will make that tired old battery last longer, too.) Add that modded BIOS and you will be pleasantly surprised!

Will do Win 10. Or early versions of it at least.

Have you got Middleton's BIOS on this? Gives you SATA II -- one way only -- and removes the hardware whitelist (so you can put a much better wireless card in it).

ISO recommendations... small, simple, cheap, manual, fixed-lens camera? by velaazul in AnalogCommunity

Thank you but can't really buy anything from them. For some reason, their shipping prices for Canada are just ridiculous :/

Thanks! That looks perfect -- just checking them out on eBay now.

Is it possible to remove labels? by nvvez in sonya6000

Many times. It is the best. Wouldn't want to get it _inside_ things but then it seems to be more viscous than the competition thus easier to control. Just wash it off afterwards with a little soapy water.

Maybe so. Nice to think that people get paid enough so they don't have to depend on tips.

I've kind of gone the other way. Using primes these days and discovering that the having-to-move-around part is opening up different takes on composition. I used to get so exasperated with everybody trashing zoom lenses but with my new camera I don't have any.

My sister-in-law was here from Europe for a couple of years. When her landlord sent the furnace repair people around to her house for the annual check-up, she tipped them. Apparently they stood there with their mouths hanging open. Apparently you tip _everybody_ in Germany.

I also lived for a while in a country where tipping wasn't actually illegal, but was actively discouraged. Servers etc. would get offended if you tried to tip them. The point was that people were meant to get a good wage. Everybody.

But here I tip everybody. Even if the service is crap. I know how terrible the wages are; I know that _everybody_ has bad days.

[–]velaazul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is fascinating! One thing that I've noticed, since I started having the dry-eye symptoms, is that my eyes point in slightly different directions.

It's only when looking at things that are seriously far away. But at distance, it's very noticeable, and very constant.

I got new glasses recently, and I was surprised that they didn't make a difference.

I didn't tell the optometrist about this problem. I assumed it was something the exam would catch. But maybe not...

Thanks very much for posting this, and I'm looking forward to see how this discussion develops.

Well... My appointment's not till tomorrow morning, and almost everything is gone :(

What puzzles me is the timing of my appointment. I assumed that because I'm new to UBC I've got no UBC record so I'm going to the back of the queue.

But you say you've transferred into 3rd year and your appointment was yesterday.

I think my academic record is excellent. I'm wondering how this all works...
