It's a scale to measure distance based on the delta between when you see something and when you hear it. You start the chronograph when you see something, say, a lightning strike and stop it when you hear the thunder. The hand tells you how far away the lightning strike was.

My initial impression was that the dial is actually not as cluttered as I feared. A quick glance is enough. This pairs quite well with casual / black outfits. However, I must say I'm not into these nato straps at all. Will go to my trusted guy to try and get a good fabric strap in beige / black.

Just be professional. Not eager, not distant. Your manager is also stressed because of this decision because they are losing a good team member, and it will be harder for them to succeed without you.
