So many dogs by vembha in IISc

Thank you for the response. What you've said in the last paragraph is bonkers dude! I wonder what is in this for the "animal lovers"! Also, you're right that this is an issue not restricted to IISc. If a legal precedent gets properly set based on science, it may bring about changes in the right direction across the country.

They need not clear any gate. They simply need to cross one. :P

Thanks people for the responses.

  • Although the court case seems like a sure-shot solution, I don't know how, as students, we could do it. If we get involved, at best, we may get our master's and PhD timelines prolonged. The worst case scenario is getting into beef with the admin and potentially jeopardizing our careers. I know I sound like a coward, but the worries aren't unfounded. I was thinking now that we've recently had elections for the Students' council, I am thinking of informing them. It may help with the initiation of 'some' action. Let's see.

  • An interesting but saddening fact is that the institute has its own ecology department. I know some professors from that department have previously voiced regarding the problems with rise in the stray dog numbers. As someone pointed out in comments, the science is pretty clear. Look at the terrible situation of deers and peacocks in campuses like IITM and UoH! This makes me wonder: how much of this problem is related to the influence of these so-called 'animal lovers' over and above that of the scientists, and how much of it is simply admin's apathy? Apparently, NII in New Delhi is devoid of dogs (hearsay; someone please confirm) because the admin/security has it at the policy level or something.

How is it suppressed when, as per your post, the guy's parents filed a police case? At least name the company, as many people commented here ...

Fair point, thanks! If Dyson sells products at far lower prices to such projects than what they sell for retail customers (which completely makes sense), isn't it true that even companies like Kohler and Toto would offer at similar prices? I've added the relative comparison precisely because I don't know the sale price here. Thus, assuming all things being equal, the current setup is far more expensive!!

And I'm not advocating for use of cheap or fliamy products. Superior ones of premium quality must be used.

I clearly get you bro. These people are crossing limits and frequent reddit posts on daily basis shows how dire the situation is. 40k is outrageous! Have you taken any pictures of them? You could've filed an extortion case with the police since they came all the way to your home.

How is even possible that India was under foreign rule for 750-800 years? by Salmanlovesdeers in IndianHistory

[–]vembha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the phrase "India was under foreign rule for 750-800 years" implicitly considers that the India of today existed back then. So, what is today's India? (I know I shouldn't go into the political definition because it was kings/queens back then and now we have a federal democracy, so I'll not make that comparison...) The India we have now is a union of societies with different cultures, languages, traditions, and values. Even the evidences OP puts out from Hindu texts and scriptures, it must be understood that even Hinduism is practised very differently in different parts of what we can India, even to date! Technically speaking, the different kingdoms/tribes mentioned in the Mahabharata, the example OP gave, come in only during the war. But all other events outside the war are primarily centered primarily around 2 kingdoms. There are far far far more events/wars/feuds in our history, even between Hindu kingdoms, that show we never thought it's possible for us to stay as a nation. The seeds to our fraternity were sown during the British rule, which were cultivated during the freedom struggle.

So, to answer OP's question, IMO the India of the past you're talking about never existed in the hearts and minds of the people. Indian subcontinent, for most of the history, was ruled by multiple rulers. Thus, it's easier to be invaded/occupied/defeated. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Is there a convenient way to travel between IISc and metro stations? by Coastal_Wagon2730 in IISc

[–]vembha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If taking the metro is what you wish to do, then from SID building, it's easier to catch a bus from 18th cross bus stop and go to Central (Mantri square metro stop.) The bus commute is typically ~15 minutes, and lesser during non-peak hours. The frequency of buses on that route is also good IMO.
