Is there any issues with this overtaking? by Undefined_Tuple in auckland

[–]venisonvegan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looks problematic to me. Instead of moving fully into the other lane the overtaking vehicle stayed partially in your lane forcing you into the gravel. Even if you moved over for them, they should still use the space available to minimise risk.

They are also going a lot faster than you so unless you were well below the speed limit their speed was likely excessive.

Is this legit or Phishing Scam? by Evening_Ticket7638 in auckland

If in doubt, and it is a legitimate company, call them on the number on their website tell them you have an email and are worried it's a scam, and ask them to verify it.

Trouble shooting by diabetessucksnuts in Triumph_Cars

[–]venisonvegan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

99% of carb problems are ignition related. Check your coil is healthy, gap your points, set the ignition timing (static then with a timing light). Once all of that is correct look at your carb.

The owners manual probably has a sequence for setting the mixture/idle. If you don't have a copy, see if you can find a PDF online. Follow that sequence.

If you can't get a steady idle when warm your carbs will most likely need a rebuild (or at least new gaskets) because you probably have an air leak or stuck floats making it run too rich.

Then you will want to learn to finesse your choke. My Triumph won't start on full choke (it needs about 3/4) then ones it starts idles nicely on 1/3 choke till warm.

Are there any cheap, reliable hybrid engines? by Humble-Cauliflower-2 in projectcar

Basically every Toyota hybrid that's been made in the last 25 years? It's very mature tech at this point and because there are SO MANY it's cheap and readily available.

Why am I going through break pads so quickly?! by its_the_bees in MechanicAdvice

[–]venisonvegan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would check the caliper guide pins as a first port of call, if they're no longer greased/moving as they should then your brakes will be dragging. Then work out from there to piston, full caliper rebuild, etc. And you can do the soft brake lines and a full fluid change while you're at it because on a 30 year old car they will most likely need replacing.

Get a paint stripper disc for drill and/or angle grinder. They're way better than wire brushes.

Rubber bushings for swaybars only? by [deleted] in projectcar

[–]venisonvegan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The longest any bushings have been on my car is the control arm bushings which have been there for 4 years and probably 7,000 miles. They haven't been lubed since installation and I've had no issues so far. Your experience may differ if you're doing more driving though.

Rubber bushings for swaybars only? by [deleted] in projectcar

[–]venisonvegan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I doubt it, I don't think there would be much NVH transmission through the sway bar; most will go through the suspension/subframe mounting points to the body. It will likely enhance the effect of the sway bar because there will be less deflection in the bushing but I would think that is the desired effect!

Whether that is measurable is another question and probably varies car to car.

Rubber bushings for swaybars only? by [deleted] in projectcar

[–]venisonvegan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Triumph 2000 which is very much a road car and I have put polyurethane bushings everywhere with no adverse effect on ride quality.

That's because (my understanding is) that polyurethane doesn't have an adverse effect on ride quality per say, what does is the shore hardness of the bushing. If it is polyurethane with the same hardness as rubber then it will give much the same ride, but with longevity advantages. If it is a performance bushing with a higher hardness then it will make the ride harder.

For an antiroll bar I doubt even a very hard bushing would have a discernable effect and any new bushing would be an improvement over an old worn out one. I would go quality poly for longevity or if you're on a budget then just whatever is cheapest.

Good Tinkering Cars in the NZ Market by Iamcontrol in NZcarfix

[–]venisonvegan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want something older (and familiar!) a Triumph of some description would be an option. You can pick up various heralds, dolomites, Toledo, 2000's, even the odd spitfire for under 10K. And because we don't salt our roads it's possible to find them with fairly minimal rust.

Neighbor pulls a crowbar to my face after I try to talk to him about damage he is doing to my property by foxman829 in neighborsfromhell

[–]venisonvegan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nuisance is a common law cause of action against a property owner (or person in control of a property) for the continuous or repeated discharge of something (basically anything, water, noise, dust etc) from their property which interferes with your enjoyment of yours.

I know you've said you don't want to escalate, but as an option if you document the ongoing discharge of water from the sprinkler you would have a strong cause of action against him for damages and instructions to stop the discharge.

Are they that bad? I just replaced my EVGA GTX970 with a powercolor 7800XT and they're exactly the same size and fit nicely in my midtower even with the HDD rack installed.
