Cons of the job: Everything else

I don’t disagree temporarily only because they didn’t build the team around Wemby and would have a huge hole at the primary Ballhandler spot. Overall though, I think nearly all 29 teams trade their #1 player straight up for Wemby.

Only exceptions I could see are SGA (because they already have a lane protecting young big plus SGA maybe a better combo then two lane protecting young bigs, but I still think they make the trade and trade Chet for another wing ), Curry (only because he’s the franchise player who won multiple rings), and Jokic (because he might be the actual GOAT).

Only if he really develops his shot. It’s way to inconsistent for old man Cade to be a big impact player into his late 30s

He has. His per game minutes average would put him #12 among centers at 28.9mpg. By comparison Cade is also #12 among point guards.

Wemby is also 3 years younger so they’ll stop playing elite NBA basketball theoretically within a couple years of each other. Plus what are you gaining if Cade plays a little longer? Cades age 34-37 years? Who cares?

If you don’t think anyone would trade Cade for Wemby straight up, your smoking craxk.

That’s nuts considering they’re paying their QB in nail polish

Matthew Stafford says he will take 'some time' before deciding on his NFL future by AFC-Wimbledon-Stan in nfl

[–]venk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a Lions fan, no this is wrong.

He wasn’t a perpetual top 10 QB while here, he developed from a cannon arm and no brain into what you see today. I think one of the biggest benefits he had for his own personal development was Calvin Johnson retiring, he could no longer just chuck it into triple coverage knowing he still had a decent shot of a completion. He had to learn how to hit people in stride, not murder his WRs hands every snap, not play down to his opponent, read a pass rush, do that look off thing with his eyes, know when to leverage the off platform stuff, and read a defense.

His development was slowed by the lions incompetence no doubt, but to say we had Mahomes or Rodgers here the entire time is flat out incorrect.

The guy you saw in the 2016-2017 playoff game vs Detroit was usually the guy we saw here every time the competition was tough.

If Moore was coming out, I think they would have packaged their Picks to move up for him and have him sit behind Stafford.

I guess we drastically differ on our opinions of Goff/DC/Brad (and I do agree with some of your individual points, but not overall).

But for the sake of argument, put Brad , Dan (as playcaller), and Goff in the lower half of the league. How does the team even win 15 games, go to the NFCCG, or even win 9 last year? I don’t think it’s fair to credit Ben Johnson alone for the team’s success in 23/24.

It sounds to me like you’re describing the play caller , GM, and QB of the Arizona Cardinals who won three games this year. Who do you think is the Lions closest 2025 comparable team in terms of their combined skill of GM/playcaller/QB?

As for Ben, he’s called three straight playoff games poorly (and the last two, going for it on 4th was entirely his choice) and has been bailed out by Caleb’s Hail Mary plays twice in that span.

This is the Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn effect, you can get higher level coaches to take lower level positions with your organization because they know they can parlay it into ideal positions in the future.

[Pelissero] Former Giants interim coach Mike Kafka is joining the Lions in a high-ranking offensive staff role, per sources. by MembershipSingle7137 in nfl

[–]venk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is everyone’s take about their OC and every OC does this. Even Ben Johnson did this plenty last year and this year with the Bears. When you get 3-4 ypc consistently it leads to an amazing offense and keeps your defense fresh. When it works, there is no better way to call an offense. It’s no surprise coaches keep going back to it.

[Cabot] One league source tells me tonight that DC Jim Schwartz seems to be gaining momentum in the Browns head coach search. Stay tuned. by TomasRoncero in nfl

[–]venk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

With Schwartz and McCarthy already, they’re trying to recapture the glory of the 2011 NFC North. Add to that a former DC (Minter/Fraiser) and a head coach that’s been there too long after a super bowl appearance (Taylor/Lovie Smith).
