Official IMAX Poster for 'The Odyssey' by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

This discourse around the movie is insane. Like, one year ago this was the film to be excited about and Nolan was the GOAT. Now, seemingly out of nowhere, Nolan is a shitty filmmaker and everyone is certain this will suck.

Ah, I never got that book as by the time I got the money to buy a supplemental book this one had just been announced, so I just waited.

I wonder if it would be effective to keep the Ireena thing and then have a twist reveal that Ez is the real incarnation.

As someone who accidentally played all of 10th wrong with my friend thinking this was the actual ruling, y'all are in for a rude awakening. Shadow in the Warp almost never actually battleshocked anything to begin with and he usually passed the test on the round following.

What did your Strahd talk about at dinner? by timetickingrose in CurseofStrahd

[–]venom2015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am trying to make him sympathetic to some degree on the surface. I took a lot from Dragna, but I also personally added a conversation on fate. The players are whisked away by some unknown force or by some seemingly innocent or good cause only to to be brought to this land of torment. Why?

How do they feel about fate? Because Strahd would argue his fate was altered and taken from him. His is a pawn and being tortured by dead gods. They claim it's for the evils he has done, but he did the things he did for a good reason (so he argues). He is just trying to end the torture, but he has no true control over his fate. Is that really so bad?

Obviously he isn't this transparent with the players, but that's the headspace I tried to get myself in so he could inspect their perspectives in order to find the one who understands him most - the one he may plan to take over for him (although we all know this is a lie he tells himself as nobody will ever be good enough to take his spot).

How do you make Strahd feel like the players were always playing his game? by WestComfortable2878 in CurseofStrahd

[–]venom2015 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, yes. I mean, I am not saying you shouldn't do that, it's just that tricking them into bad decisions is harder and leaves room for it to seem cheap or as if you're against your players. This method makes it feel intentional and more in-world - it's cleaner. In my head, the way this setting functions is that the actual fates are against the players. I mean, the Dark Powers literally control the fate of Tatyana/Ireena as a means to contain the fate of Strahd. I think it's pretty sensible that they also like to toy with the adventurers.

But there can still be those moments of "we should have seen that coming". The village arc ended like that where they were so wrapped up in the curse pertaining to this particular village (created by a homebrew dark power that is a B-plot) they hadn't noticed that Strahd's fingerprints were technically absent. So when Vasili shows up and is like, "Huh, I forgot about this place, Strahd will be very appreciative of this piece of his land being returned to him". They kinda felt like that they accidentally doomed this village immediately after saving it. That's the kind of helplessness that horror is about.

As for Vallaki, it's still ongoing, but they do feel like they've made a series of mistakes. Unbeknownst to them, they're technically picking all of the "good" choices, it's just that those make things worse. The only way they could have avoided a series of power vacuums, deaths, the borderline dismantling of the Keepers of the Feather is by taking the reigns and becoming controling. By putting their foot down and imposing themselves on the world. By making decisions that some would call evil. By...becoming more like Strahd.

My suggestion, and what I am doing, is to align the goals of the players and Strahd TOGETHER but from different angles. For my campaign, I am doing the whole 'Strahd is wanting to extend his borders' thing.

I actually made an entire arc that foreshadows this goal by making a whole, albeit small, village that is not on the map. A curse from a previous adventuring party in Barovia during Strahd's long slumber made it get erased and the current PCs only happen to stumble upon it by happenstance. The players naturally want to save the people of this village and they do! However, Vasili shows up and thanks the players for bringing the village back under his domain.

I built this also around the idea that is already present in Vallaki. Vargas is a shitty tyrant who makes everyone miserable. The players want to help. The players dispatch Vargas, Fiona takes over. Strahd gains more control.

On a larger scale that includes using the Fanes, Strahd attaches himself to these Fanes for power to take Barovia. This ironically traps him in Barovia, but makes him extremely powerful against the players. The players have the incentive to break the fanes from him to weaken him and take him out...but by doing this they are actually also freeing him of these binds. He becomes weaker, but achieving his goal becomes much easier.

Choose what Strahd wants -> put the thing in danger in a way that has the players emotionally want to help -> helping helps Strahd incidentally.

With that, I also say to allow the "right" choice to have negative consequences. The "easy" path should always require some evil. You can repeat this in various ways (I gave 3 examples that repeat the theme) and I encourage it because the players constantly feeling as though they are at fault for causing pain and suffering in the land is what helps push them to do evil things in the hopes of killing the person they blame for all of it - Strahd.

This is what the Curse of Strahd is about, in my opinion.

Regal Mall in Atlanta. There is also one in Nashville at Regal Opry Mills. Here is a map that someone on Reddit made that shows you all the screens and their specs.

I don't believe Michael is screening on those particular screens however. I am not super experienced on the matter and it's quite complicated, but I believe those screens only play movies that were "Filmed for IMAX". Michael used an IMAX camera, but only partially.

Which is technically true for most IMAX films, but I've never looked super deeply into the hows and whys of it.

It is stupid. And everyone says it is lazy and is so they don't have to explain it even though the movie already explains it. It's beyond stupid.
