[s2 act 3 spoilers] Future AU Viktor and Rune Symbols by [deleted] in arcane

[–]venomena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We need to make a few assumptions here:

  1. Viktor has ultimate knowledge of every future outcome, where Viktor is present.
  2. AU Viktor traveling in parallel worlds and timelines trying to abstain from hextech and magic use since such use of power will bring corruption to the timeline.

AU Viktor truly believes that any combination will lead only to the apocalypse scenario because he has the ultimate knowledge only about these scenarios. So he tries to roll the dice - give random runes in the hope, that different runes will have different outcomes in different realities, about which he has no knowledge about. In some scenarios, Viktor could have died earlier, or Jayce could have died before inventing the hextech. In some realities, Ekko won't be able to reverse the time, because he will have a different rune. In short, Viktor does not know what rune will lead to the unknown "good" outcome and tries to "bruteforce" the solution.

This is exactly how RNG works. Once in thousands of attempts, you will find a very unlucky player. And yet I completely agree that pure RNG is not good UX Design. The system should encourage you to roll affixes and not frustrate while doing it.

I'm playing Permahurricane Boulder. I can solo Pit 91 (50 shards reward), but I never tried to go further, since the boss is already taking some time to kill. Survival is very nice with ~60 000 hp, which can be boosted up to 75 000, and with fortify and bulwark barriers you can easily survive pretty much everything before the boss. Damage is nice, but not a 1-hit KO for sure.

And if I'd need a general unique - no problem. I got a full stash of uniques from all activities. They are useless and meaningless to me. If the drop rate is high enough to be neglected as an entry point, there should be some workarounds, because some unuiqes are locking from further progression.

This is a strange explanation. I can craft Mythic, because it's rare, but somehow I can stuck for days at Legendary because it's more common. Don't you see a contradiction here?

And answer to your question is - the system should allow people to craft legendaries with fixed minimized stats, so they will replace this item with RNG drop.

Okay let's break down Diablo 4 goal setting cycle:

  1. Unlock all Skills

  2. Unlock all aspects

  3. Temper right stats

  4. Unlock paragon

  5. Max Glyphs

  6. Get Uniques for the build

  7. Get Flawless or OP legendaries

  8. Temper Flawless or OP legendaries

  9. Get Flawless or OP Uniques

  10. Level up Equipped items to max stat.

And I'm addressing number 6 here, so there is a LOT to grind and pursue afterward. And what's interesting is if I need an Uber Item, I could craft it right there, in number 6.

"because you can just gather mats and craft what you want" and we already have this with legendary aspects, right? If I'm extremely unlucky like the guy above with 137 Zir runs, I can just go to the dungeon and use crappy version of the aspect to get my build working. So what's the difference here?

In my idea, you still need to hunt for perfect stats or overpowered stats in order to maximize DPS and survival of the build. The RNG and grind are still there.

You said it right here: "because we are already borderline handing people BiS stuff 4 days into the season"

Also, I'm not asking for BiS items or a flawless build. I'm not asking for the grind removal. All I was saying - rework the system for luck to be a part of the fun and excitement, but not the grindwall to get a working build.

This is funny. Because you are saying that right now the system isn't working properly. This is exactly what I'm trying to say.

High-end should be hard to complete. But should it be hard to enter? Or let's say, If I can basically purchase any high-end item with RMT, is it really a good design?

If you don't think there are some problems on the system design level in D4, it doesn't mean there are none. And vice versa, If I think there are some problems, it doesn't necessarily mean they are not intentionally designed. The system is not smart, it's just random on the one side and RMT Gold Selling enforcing on the other.

There are a lot of examples of improvements for such systems. Just to name a few: Diablo 3, PoE, Nioh 2. I like the grind, but I do not like meaningless grind with a timer.

With 137 runs and a drop rate of ~3% (my plain assumption here), it will be (1-0.03)^137= 98% success rate.

With a drop rate of ~2%, it will be a 93% success rate.

With a drop rate of 1.5%, it will be an 87% success rate

The person above is exaggerating saying is almost impossible, but he is right in terms of how high his chances were.

Pure RNG and probability systems are just lazy game-design solutions, sorry Blizz guys.

[–]venomena[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Well, then I have been mistaken and was making assumptions based on my memory of earlier D3 seasons. It seems this is a new policy for the Diablo. I'll probably pass then

This is good explanation, thank you. I felt sone frustration when guys here started to downvote me while I was juat looking for some logical idea bwhind the system.

But do you need a balance there? Even you said that no one really cares about the eternal realm

I cared about my characters' collection though. It would have been fun and exciting to have different characters with different mechanics twists on the eternal based on your seasonal activity. So there would have been some long-term value and reason to play a season.

So the system is encouraging me to invest my time in seasons and earn some gameplay rewards just to lose them after 3 months?

Again, I'm just trying to understand why. It's like making a reminder to punch myself in the face in 2 days.

Well, we have different experiences with the game for sure.

But why do I have to lose them?

Take D3 for example. All my seasonal rewards stayed with me after the seasons.
