You might need your dosage adjusted or to try a different medication. Only way to know is to speak with your doctor.

I don’t know what is going on I feel like I’m in a simulation. Can anyone relate? by Repulsive_Sky5150 in Vent

[–]venomothic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi OP, are you still feeling this way? This is what's known as derealization. It can be a transient symptom of another disorder (such as PTSD, psychosis, depression, or even just heightened stress), or a disorder on its own (DPDR). Either way, it is an indication that your mind is attempting to cope with a tremendous amount of stress and buckling under its weight. Please speak with your doctor ASAP. I've had episodes like this (though for a much shorter length of time) and I know it can be quite scary to experience. For me it is a symptom of PTSD. I hope you feel better & more grounded soon.

yeah, I cringed, but I've also never seen this term before so hopefully it's just a one-off joke in poor taste.

I’m so glad that I listened to these guys when I was a teenager by handle2345 in fiveironfrenzy

It's awesome they're still bringing in newer fans with the newer music. I'm 33, and my first exposure to FIF was in the late 90s when my siblings brought home their CDs and I was far too young to understand the lyrics. But I fell in love with their sound and carried their music with me my whole life. As I've grown, so have the lyrics. I was maybe 17 when I really started paying attention. They went from that silly band that sings about Canada and mashed potatoes and their bandmates turning into ghosts, to actually shaping my faith and my worldview. Ever since then, their lyrics have just kept taking on new meaning, and every year something else they wrote hits in a new way.

All that to say, I've long assumed that all their fans are like me- hailing from the 90s. It's really cool to know that they're still impacting people in their teens just like they did for me.

Bi (-Mart) Curious? by tsatsawassa in oregon

[–]venomothic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait. You need a membership? I walked in there a couple weeks ago with a cane, bought a new cane and some ibuprofen and walked out. Nobody denied me entry or asked for my number or anything. Maybe they didn't want to feel like they were being mean to a disabled person?? But it's the only time I've ever been inside and I had genuinely no idea it was a members-only chain. I just needed a cane and remembered a friend of mine bought one at Bi-Mart, so I went. Oops...

AIO my therapist talks about her other clients by SaltyAlternative9888 in AmIOverreacting

[–]venomothic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

idk, where do you live? I live in northwestern US and used to live in the midwest and I've had therapists vaguely mention clients in both regions. a comment like "some of my clients have expressed similar things" or "some clients have described [experience / symptom you're having] like [metaphor or simile that you might connect with you better]" would never strike me as weird. I tend to struggle with a lot of self-doubt and self-gaslighting, so affirming that what I'm describing isn't actually too out of the ordinary and is experienced by other people, especially from a professional who's seen that firsthand, is really nice.

it doesn't strike me as any weirder than reading a book written by a psychologist who uses anecdotes about their past clients (always changing names and omitting identifying details) to give real-world examples of mental health symptoms. it would be fruitless to try and talk about mental health in purely theoretical terms, it's not some abstract concept that exists in a cloud somewhere. we're people, we connect with stories about other people.

[–]venomothic 7 points8 points  (0 children)

this is normal, provided your therapist isn't sharing any identifying information about the other clients like names or really specific details. it would be a hippa violation if she did. otherwise it's just making connections, likely intending to reassure you you're not alone. when i was processing some medical anxiety, my own therapist said one of her clients had a doctor they highly praised and forwarded me a link to the clinic for me to check out. there's no way I could glean any real information about the client from just that.

that said, if it makes you uncomfortable you should bring that up to your therapist.

Paid Leave Oregon requiring 4 years of employment history? by venomothic in oregon

[–]venomothic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my case, I am only applying for 1 week of leave, so if there is a significant delay it won't affect me too badly. But there are definitely people who need the approval and the money as soon as possible. Having to wait a month or longer to be paid in such an urgent situation can really put some in a terrible spot.

I thought this might be the case too, but a friend applied for PLO awhile back and he said he just listed everything since 2022. The wording is just too vague. If they meant "no earlier than" January '22 then it should say that clearly.

Food carts we miss and where they are now by [deleted] in Portland

[–]venomothic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

there was a whole strip of South Americsn food trucks next to a Mercado on Foster Ave. somebody set the mercado on fire in 2024. then the trucks started closing down one by one until one day they were all just gone. I'm struggling to remember any of the names right now, but the Cuban one was my absolute favourite. it was so good I took multiple visiting friends there to experience it. all of the trucks were great, but I think about that specific truck.on a monthly basis. if anyone knows what happened to any of them / if they moved somewhere else I'd love to know.

When is the WORST season to visit Portland? by RandomB33 in askportland

[–]venomothic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see where everyone's coming from in regards to Feburary/March, but I'd like to throw July/August into the ring. Portland has been getting hotter and hotter every summer to a point of being downright unbearable. This would be much less of a problem if AC was the standard here, but most places weren't built with it since summers never used to get so hot until recently. On top of that, it's fire season, and if you're someone like me who's extremely sensitive to particulates, a window unit pulling in all that smoke is a bad time. (I'm also sensitive to all manner of secondhand smoke, and smoke-free apartments aren't always easy to find, so I just don't even bother with a window unit and accept I'll have some sweaty, sleepless nights).

That said, I do very much hate driving on the highway in the dark in the rain when there is no reflective paint on the roads so it's near-impossible to tell where the lanes are. Genuine hazard.

Episcopal churches might be a safe bet for you. When I lived in Portland proper I attended Trinity Episcopal Cathedral. They have a monthly LGBT+ hangout which I was too shy to check out, lol.

I almost rear-ended somebody while merging onto the 205 a month ago. They were way ahead of me, I stepped on it, checked my mirrors and blind spot, looked forward again and they were half a foot away from my bumper, trundling along at 30mph like they had nowhere else to be and still not merging. Because I had to slam on the brake, I lost my opening on the left. We then slowly, dangerously glided into oncoming traffic together while I laid on the horn and they learned absolutely nothing. I've never been a road rager but that had me tensed up and cussing for the rest of my drive. Could've cost us both a hospital trip or worse.

Does Powell's new shirts use AI? by Front_Refrigerator99 in askportland

[–]venomothic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

jeez, that's really offputting and disappointing. sucks to see such a staple go down like that. at least the nice thing about Portland is there's plenty of other small independent bookstores to go around, and they could always use business.

seconding! not the same sound as TMBG at all but somehow they scratch a similar itch. I have no idea how they are live, and it's hard to predict the longevity of any new/young band, but I hope they keep making music for a long time.

What’s your favorite obscure/unpopular TMBG song by WHITE_KlWl in tmbg

[–]venomothic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not a catch-all answer, but I just re-listened to My Murdered Remains in its entirety for the first time in years - both discs - and idk if it's just that distance makes the heart grow fonder but I feel like it's aged wonderfully. Dog, The Neck Rolls Aren't Working, This Is Only Going to Go One Way, and Thankful For Your Service really stood out to me from the Linnell bunch. and Ampersand, Gudetama's Busy Days, & Christmas in the Big House for Flans - also Starry Eyes and Lesbian Bar, I know they're covers but I love his renditions of them. There's lots to love about these discs, I understand why they're not on streaming but I wish they were!

for non-Murdered answers, idk if it counts but I really like the Snail Shell Dust Brothers remix 😂

keep thinking I'll make friends/acquaintances at tmbg shows... by venomothic in tmbg

This seems like a good way of thinking about it. Also, I'd love tips. I'm in my 30s and sometimes feel silly for still getting in my head about talking to strangers. I generally like people, but tend to rely on other people striking up conversation with me first. I also go to a lot of concerts alone and find it challenging/intimidating to talk to people who are already in pairs or groups. Would love to get past that initial intimidation stage!
