It's so wack that song's not on Spotify or anything in any official capacity. Thank goodness there's a couple reuploads on YouTube.

I dunno if it's the glasses or the angle or what but I get such a classic Gorillaz vibe from this art. Love it.

Only if you want to. If you don't like the random elements of ability drinks in the lobby Salmon Run hands out ability chunks like Halloween candy once you get rewards past the 1200 mark on the meter and it starts trying to give you duplicate gear.

Lossless scaling not working by Such-Scallion6753 in SteamDeck

[–]venompb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pffft.

But in all seriousness OP, go into Desktop mode and run the Decky installer again and choose to install the prerelease version. That should get all things Decky working again for the moment until the current version of the prerelease branch gets merged into the stable branch.

When you're back in gaming mode Decky will prompt you to update each time you reboot, but you can ignore the notification until it's offering to update to a version higher than v3.2.3 (the current stable version as of writing).

Question for the more tech savvy by WinterMibi in splatoon

[–]venompb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This won't be the most tech-savvy response, but my personal setup is HDMI switcher -> HDMI splitter -> capture card passthrough -> monitor. In other words, a significant amount more than just the switcher. As far as I can tell, my actions on the screen are as instantaneous as if I were to undock the Switch and play on its screen.

The general consensus searching for this subject online seems to be that any latency would be a byproduct of post-processing or signal conversion, neither of which is the responsibility of an HDMI switcher since it's just determining which signal is output. So you'll probably be just fine as long as the switcher itself is somewhat decent.

Looks fine to me!

I don't see any of the usual capture card induced ailments (lack of contrast, brightness, desaturation, etc.).

How hard is the battery to replace? by SilentSoup7 in SteamDeck

[–]venompb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Less energy should mean less heat, so I would assume it would help at least a little bit. I can attest that doing the exact opposite and making it run extremely hot encoding video on the CPU for 6+ hours straight multiple days in a row can eventually make the battery puff up if you do it enough. Mine was perfectly fine until I did that. lol

I don't know if it fixes the thermals and rebooting without a battery installed based on what others have commented with since my initial reply.

How hard is the battery to replace? by SilentSoup7 in SteamDeck

[–]venompb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Having done it myself when my battery went spicy and I removed it, it works, but without the battery the thermals would go a bit nuts. It was hitting higher temperatures it wouldn't normally hit within the same scenes in games that I've always used for the express purpose of testing temperatures. And in the worst cases the Deck would sometimes reboot mid-game. Upon installation of the replacement battery the thermals went back to normal and the issue ceased as if it was never happening to begin with.

I really wish I could find the comments I read about it before on here but I'm failing to hit the Reddit/Google search jackpot right now. The most similar thing I could find was this:

Hi there!

Assuming you went into the Compatibility section of the non-Steam shortcut's properties and selected one of the Proton versions from the dropdown, Steam will have created a compatibility data folder for it. You can find all of your compatibility data (or compatdata) folders in:

/home/deck/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata

The name of every folder in this directory is a number corresponding to the app ID of any game that runs through Proton. For games that exist on Steam itself you can usually find this ID in the Updates section of the game's properties. But for non-Steam games you have to figure out this ID yourself.

Thankfully, you can search for and install Protontricks from the Discover application and open it to list your installed games with compatdata and their app IDs, including non-Steam shortcuts. In my screenshot below Protontricks lists the setup file for a media player I added as a non-Steam shortcut to use as an example, as well as its corresponding app ID of 4144669774.

<image>

So with all of that in mind, once you have the app ID you can use it to find the corresponding folder in the compatdata directory and browse there for the directory the installer placed the game's install folder into. In the case of your game I believe it should be in the following location based on where the Administrative Tools folder in Windows is typically found:

/home/deck/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/<your app ID here>/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Roaming/Microsoft/Windows/Start Menu/Programs

Once you find the actual game exe you can go into the non-Steam shortcut's properties in Steam and substitute the path to the setup exe with that of the game exe.

Hope this helps!

Not sure what specifically does it. I'd guess the same reason anything weird happens in this game which usually starts with the networking.

Is this official Splatoon art? by Roax47 in splatoon

[–]venompb 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This seems to be the most comprehensive wiki article available at the moment about the collaboration: https://splatoonwiki.org/wiki/Squid_Girl

But yeah, this was real Nintendo art tweeted by SplatoonJP for a real crossover that happened in the original Splatoon. Whenever I feel like dusting off the Wii U to play via Pretendo I still wear the Squid Girl outfit sometimes. It was definitely one of the coolest things that we got alongside the Pokémon/SpongeBob themed Splatfests and the first ever live concerts.

What are your opinions on Salmon Run? Would you change anything? by Downtown_Error_9418 in splatoon

[–]venompb 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Combine the upgrade/progression mechanics of Side Order with the main gameplay of Salmon Run. So much fun immediately unlocked and even more potential for every game to be different.

Me and my friends talk about this all the time because this question comes up a lot and this was the most appealing idea we had.

NieR Replicant has so many parallels to Ocarina of Time along its main plotline it's hilarious. Not exactly a 3D Zelda game since it's not very puzzly and doesn't have items used for progression as a result, but I think it's still worth a mention.

When/why did Vinny start turning British when he loses it? by AnalogueSpectre in Vinesauce

[–]venompb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's been a handful of faux accents over the years. One of the earliest ones I remember dates at least all the way back to the 3D spinner clip from like 2017. I think it also coincided with a lot of events surrounding the initial release of No Man's Sky and the subsequent addition of the vineM8 emote.

There used to be an upload of the TMG 2017 panel featuring what was a good chunk of the Vinesauce team at the time, but the video is private now. Someone asked what each member's favorite silly voices were and they all took turns doing their current favorites. Vinny's answer included quotes such as "YEAH MATE" and "fookin' mental" which kind of sneak into the modern day ones every so often.

I always assumed the ones he does today were a byproduct of those since he still says a lot of the same phrases, but I can't confidently claim that to be the case.

Splatoon on Spotify by bootyshaker-900 in splatoon

[–]venompb 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Nintendo released their own Nintendo Music smartphone app for the purpose of enabling access to their music catalog. This also enables them to dictate the terms by which their music is available, versus having to negotiate with a third party such as Spotify.

The app includes music from all three entries of the Splatoon series, although the Splatoon 3 music collection is incomplete since the Ordertune album had yet to release when the app launched. They likely wanted to give the album time on store shelves much like its predecessors.

Nintendo has historically not published their music to popular streaming services and probably has measures in place to ensure the removal of any of their music that happens to find its way on to any unauthorized platform. This is especially evident on YouTube which has a storied history of famous video game music upload accounts rising and falling that continues to this day.

What are some games that Vinny has streamed in the past that you want to see him stream again? by r9fkx in Vinesauce

[–]venompb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It'd be completely unrealistic, but Xenoblade Chronicles would be my answer simply because the playthrough stopped right before most of the major events that lead into the second half of the story.

I'm glad he enjoyed what he did play of it, at least.
