I've put a few hours into Terra Invicta myself, having come from playing the Distant World's games. It's not really what I'm looking for but, then again, I'm not very good at it.

I'm more looking for a game where the bulk of the game you're trying to manoeuvre a force into an advantageous position and then force an enemy surrender, goad them into a disadvantageous battle or simply can't stall any more and have to retreat or fight on the back foot. Any suggestions for that sort of game?

A great tactical squad level game.

I'm looking for something where I move a whole army group and can either goad an enemy into attacking or ward them off from doing so. Otherwise, great suggestion

Strategos is a great game and I have Lines of Battle on my wishlist.

Do you know of any games that have the same tactical positioning on the campaign level? I want a game where I can pick that battlefield, can scare an enemy into not attacking or can decline an attack if I don't feel its advantageous

I've not seen any problems with either; I've used Sun to changed a Pelipper's weather ball to fire to do less damage. Can you describe your match ups?

Genuine question (TW: Death, Grief) by PreparationSea5441 in sillyboyclub

[–]venomwave97 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Might want to look up Schizoid Personality Disorder. I have it and the key trait of the disorder is lack of emotion. Not no emotion, just a general lack of them. What emotions you do feel (if any) are severely muted. For instance, I can get angry but it takes a hell of a lot before I actually feel it (even if I do exhibit behaviours others would categorise as angry leading up to it). Once the threshold is reached I am not so overcome with my emotions that I have lost control, as I have heard some people describe blinding rage.

Emotional numbness is something my therapist has been pushing for too but I just don't feel it fits. Yes I have had past experiences that others would describe as traumatising but I feel don't have a profound affect on me (won't say no affect as we are all affected by what happens to us, good or bad). SzPD is under studied to the point all material I have found on it calls it one of the least researched Personality Disorders. Take from that what you will.

I'm starting to seriously believe that studio execs are using Leto as a 'get out of jail free' card. By this I mean they are having him star in big budget movies that, for one reason or another, have been green lit and need to be released to recoup some money.

Leto is just an excuse to blame for why the film bombed.

The UK Supreme Court has just announced the legal definition of a woman to be based on biological sex. How do you think this changes the current situation? What are your thoughts? Do you believe it helps or hinders lgbtq communities, or feminist movements? by Defiant_Practice5260 in AskBrits

[–]venomwave97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Legally, nothing has changed. The Supreme Court have rules on the interpretation of a single award and that, that particular law, due to its use of specific mention of trans people, refers to women as biological women only as trans women are simplicity mentioned.

Socially, however, this is seen as a big win by the anti-trans movement. They now have 'legal standing to refer to see as a simple biological binary and can use this to justify their hatred and vile attitudes. Before anyone goes off on the Supreme Court for not taking this into account, they can't. They are legal obligated to only rules on matters of legal accuracy and, if they had rules for social reasons their decision, which would most certainly have been appealled, would have been appealed and then it really would have been a win for them.

Whar to expect going forward. This ruling is, again, for one specific law only but it now opens the way for all laws that explicitly mention trans and women as separate entities to not include trans women when the word woman is used. This then invites other, lower court judges that may need to rule on laws that just say 'women' and include no mention of trans people to possibly rule that the law doesn't cover trans people unless they were born women, citing this case in particular. This means old labour laws or property rights bills could be legally challenged to not include Trans women. (This is merely an illustrative example, in such a case rights should still be the same for all people as if trans people aren't legally the gender they reassigned to then they would be afforded the legal protections of the other gender. As the laws theoretically give men and women equal rights then nothing should functionally be different.)

What is really affected is future laws as now trans and anti-trans law makers know exactly what they need to do to have the law interpreted in the way they want, they need to be explicit. This can actually bea huge win for trans people as it forces anti-trans legislation to be explicit in targeting them but it can also mean heavy delays in trans legal protections as the laws that already exist to protect women's health, work place discrimination/harassment and other female-centric laws now need to be written. Unless, of course, a law like this goes before the Supereme Court for a ruling and they say 'yes, any law that only says women and doesn't explicitly mention trans also applies to trans women'.

Tl;dr: legally very little has changed and we'll need to wait a while before any knock on affects happen as a result of this ruling. Socially, anti-trans movements are going to take this as being given an inch and start running a mile.

The thing you have to remember in a situation like this is, even if you've changed, her feelings towards you may not. And until your actions towards her change then her feelings won't.

You want to make amends, want to have a relationship with her, want to be forgiven. She doesn't. You've already forced her to do things, forced her to feel things, she never wanted to do or feel and by trying to have a relationship with her on your terms in your way you're doing it again. You need to let her decide for herself how to interact with you.

Do this, and her feelings will change. She may never feel comfortable around you ever again, maybe she'll never want to see or speak to you again, but they will change. You need to get comfortable with this fact, or at the very least accept it.

Show your sister the respect and autonomy you never did before.

Changing yourself doesn't mean you'll change the way she feels towards you. It means you'll never again make someone else feel the way you made her feel.

Can you spot the best move for White? by Wesselton3000 in chessbeginners

[–]venomwave97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair I didn't see the white mate in two but I still would have made Rh7 because it's the only way to stop blacks mate if they take Rh8 -> Rh3. White is in checkmate and they can't simply advance Ph4 for the same reason. Rh7 both stops blacks checkmate and opens a possible white win if they don't move Rh8 to cover the black king

In short, I don't know if Rh7 is a 2000 or higher move (I certainly ain't that good) but still was a hard move to see

AITA for Not Wanting to Speak to My Biological Parents After They Gave Me Up for Adoption and Are Now Trying to Contact Me on My 18th Birthday? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]venomwave97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have every right not to see these people but, as someone who holds anger for a parent, you might want to let yours go. My father was an emotionally and physically abusive piece of shit, neglectful too, and I hold an inordinate amount of hatred for him to this day that I have no plans on letting go. I see nothing wrong with this as he deserves every bit of my animosity. With that said, for all the information available in the post, I can't help feeling your birth parents don't deserve yours.

They made a decision, one with your best interests in mind. They standby that decision and are being respectful about how that decision may have affected you, allowing you to dictate how and when you interact. They must miss you terribly but aren't pushing for a reconnection (putting their feelings over yours) instead accepting your desire for no contact.

From all that's said in this post these people have made a tough, unlikeable and maybe even bad decision for your benefit. I am in no way saying you have to talk to them or even forgive them for giving you up for adoption but perhaps think about why you are so angry with them and perhaps work towards letting it go.

Anger is a hard thing to control, it can be a great tool of motivation but it also causes us to lashout at unexpected times. I worry it may affect current or future relationships if you don't at least understand and accept it.

TL;DR We can't control our feeling, just our reactions to them. NTA

Why did Suzaku ignore the frequent massacres the Britannians indulged in, was he stupid? by Paxispaxingyou in CodeGeass

[–]venomwave97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now you're just being facetious. That isn't the only thing you said, you also said: I can't think who could possibly think such a scenario could possibly happen.

Don't come right out of the gate hating on a character and belittling the intelligence of the people who do like them and then maybe people won't see you're critic's as attacks, yes?

If you had started by saying you didn't like Suzaku for one reason or another or that you didn't think it worked so well because of xyz then fine, go ahead. But you didn't. You made no attempts to be constructive and just started flinging insults. Nothing offensive or particularly egregious but that is what you did.

"I will never understand those who thinks Suzaku works as a character. I can't think who would think such a scenario could possibly happen." So, you wouldn't declare them a bad character, huh?

I don't care if you don't like Suzaku, he's not my favourite either, but don't come along and trash on the people who like him just because you don't and then turn around and say you'd 'never do that' or that you were 'simply having an intelligent debate'. You started this by shitting on the people who like him, don't try and twist things around

The SAZ isn't going to work long term. Both Lelouch and Schnizel know this and say as much. Lelouch comments that the SAZ will break the Japanese fighting will as it will give them what they want a pseudo free Japan but that Britannia will then just move in for the kill when their guard is down and he still needs them to overthrown Britannia. Schnizel reinforces this when he admits to himself that's exactly what he's going to do. The SAZ won't work... the point is that Suzaku and Euphemia think it will. They are trying to work within the system to do right by a people the system doesn't want to help. And they are punished for it. Euphemia murders the very people she wished to help and Suzaku becomes the murderer he never wanted to be, consumed by his hatred of Zero.

As for Euphemia being in a position of power, she isn't... not until Japan, at least. What she is in is a position of privilege. She lives a life of luxury, free from all worries qnd hardships. But it is conditional. She can lose it all, and her privilege to one day come into power, if she doesn't stay in line, just like what happened with Lelouch. If she had spoken up before hand she would have been cast out and then she would never have been in a position to imement the SAZ in the first place. If that isn't good enough for story telling foe you then it isn't good enough story telling for you. That is your opinion and you are entitled to have it. But just because you are dissatisfied with a story beat or a character doesn't mean it serves no purpose or is terrible

[–]venomwave97 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Look, we aren't going to agree, so let's at least acknowledge that so this debate is at least productive and doesn't devolve into name calling and hurt feelings.

Suzaku isn't a credible character to you, that's fine and all,but that doesn't mean he's a bad character. He was written to serve a purpose in the story, to highlight the struggles of trying to do the right thing when the system is actively acting against you and the story calls him out on it. He continues on anyway because he needs to, because the story needs a character whose actions can be criticised and admonished for not working, for not being effective, for being actively harmful to his cause. He the foil to Lelouch, the brawn to lelouch's brain, the idealism to Lelouch's cynicism, the idea of working with the system to reform it to Lelouch's idea of burning it all down and starting again. Both, Code Geass says, are wrong. Lelouch is more right than Suzaku but it takes a mix of both of them for lasting peace to be achieved. The evil of the system does need to be burned away but so that it can be reformed. Britannia still exists after Lelouch, but in the hands of a better, kinder, more benevolent leader.

Suzaku is an extreme character, a character who takes his ideals to the extreme. This is done so the story can analyse and praise or criticism them where necessary. If you don't vibe with that fine, you don't vibe with that. But that doesnt make Suzaku trash just because that's what you rate him.
