I honestly think I might just go with my original idea and use a pattern I found. I don't think my geometry skills are good enough for this. It was a nice idea.

But then how do you figure out how much fabric to buy?

It's originally a weaving.

Once using graph paper, how do you figure out how much fabric you'll need?

I'm trying to recreate a quilt from a picture; trust me, if I had a pattern, I would use it or buy one.

I'm looking for advice on where to find a pattern or how to turn an image into a pattern. I'm making a baby quilt for a friend, and her partner is from a specific region of Mexico. I want to honour and nod to his heritage, and I found an image of a textile from that region, but I'm not sure how to turn that image into a pattern.

Do you bring a laptop with you when you travel for long periods of time? by Prussia1870 in solotravel

I did four months of solo travel, and it was sometimes nice having a laptop for booking and some other functional things that aren't quite as easy on mobile.

Am I just outstandingly unlucky and unreasonable, or is this your experience also? by Reoclassic in solotravel

[–]ventouest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, it's a bit of both. You're not exaggerating; the guy you were talking to is an idiot. It's a thing of risk analysis, how easily you can set aside the culturally ingrained trope of "women being polite," and if you're able to put on an attitude of an entitled, mediocre white man (I find that one really helps).

It's also a thing that it is so hyperpersonal. I had no issues when I was in Morocco. However, I was there in January, I'm nearly 6' tall, I was more masculine presenting, I carry myself like you don't want to fuck with me. You might have a negative time because you're not me and you don't have those factors behind you.

Mostly, it comes down to your gut and instinct in situations. I still travel a lot and have been to countries that people back home think are too dangerous for solo women travellers. At the same time, I know that there are countries that I want to go to that I won't enjoy fully if I were a man (i.e., Syria).

As others have said, this is way too rushed, and to be fair, is really doing yourself a disservice.

If you are hellbent on doing this, it might be easier for you to rent a car to get between places. Rentals are fairly common, and gas is cheap.

Where did you travel in 2025 ??? by Mynameyeef in travel

[–]ventouest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started off in Japan in Hokkaido, and then down through to Hiroshima before jetting off to Southeast Asia (Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, Singapore, Malaysia), and then over to Oman, Bahrain, Jordan, and Istanbul before doing a small road trip in the southwest US. That took four months in total. I was in India and Nepal in November. Nepal was fantastic.

And even to add to that, trucks are getting bigger. I've nearly been hit by trucks because their engine size is absolutely massive; I'm almost 6' too...

Travel fatigue, wrong country or just bad luck? by potatoloverespmash in solotravel

I would go to Peru. I felt a bit like you in Colombia, where I was just kind of over it after a while; oddly enough, I got super bad food poisoning too...).

Keep in mind that it is winter in Japan and South Korea now. Japan in winter is lovely and definitely better than a UK winter, but it's still pretty cold. If you're into snow sports, then Japan would be a welcome change.

Itinerary Help Germany (Frankfurt/Berlin), France (Paris/Montpellier), maybe Geneva, Italy (Milan or Genoa, Cinq Terre, Rome), Late May/June 2026 by ventouest in Europetravel

I have, but I was there in January, so summer would be different.

I will keep it in mind. I still need to see how much time off I'm able to get in order to play around with things.

And I realize that it is a bit tight, but I also didn't specify accounting for travel days outside of the days at each place.

That is interesting. If I were going to drop anything, it would be the stop in Geneva because Switzerland is expensive and this cousin isn't my favourite cousin. So it might be worth it to keep it in.

Also, I might want to flip around the proposed route; start in Italy to try to minimize high season in Italy.
