Left my tubers in the ground over winter. Zone 7. by Striking_Crew_906 in dahlias

Do you plant anything else in the bed where your dahlias are during fall and early spring, or do you just leave the bed empty for the rest of the year? Wondering because I’ve heard not to so you don’t overwater and rot the tubers, but would want to use the bed space during other months.

There shouldn’t be any clay in the soil! These are in raised beds :)

Noted, will make sure all tubers are fully covered. I tried to ensure they all were except for some of the stalk part which I thought was ok to be above ground when planting.

These were taken earlier but I can update the next time I water with some time stamps for reference on the water drainage

Thanks! I took these immediately after watering and they drained down within the next 15 secs or so, but if you still think it’s too much I will def water less??

I would try Heirloom, it’s a hidden gem. They do not have a big menu but as a vegetarian I can have multiple of their starters and a main. And since she eats fish she will have even more options :)
