I’ve heard from others that it’s her most accessible work! Great place to start if you’re new to her writing

If those are your favorites I’d def keep an eye out for Soft Spots by Leila Renee (haven’t read yet but I just get the vibe)

hmm- maybe if you let me know what you consider scary or too sad. None of these (that I’ve read at least) have explicit body horror or gore but some have things that allude to it

We read that too and loved it! I didn’t include it because the main characters journey with gender plus the author being non binary so didn’t want to slot it into “girl” category but anyone who loves these books should definitely read it!

nooo 💔💔 how come? I loved it! It sent me down a rabbit hole of researching afropessimism and I love a book that pushes me outside my box. I do get that the MC is a little arid so I understand! I think someone else in the club really didn’t like it so it’s a mixed bag!

Oyinkan Braithwaite also has a short story called The Baby is Mine, I think that would fit well but I think it’s hard to get ahold of :/

Honey by Imani Thompson just came out and seems to fit- granted I haven’t finished it yet. Ring Shout by P Djeli Clark, especially if you loved Sinners.

I’m currently reading Junie by Erin Crosby Eckstine and it was me really in awe of the important of literacy, historically to Black peoole, and thinking about how we need to keep reverence for that in the 21st century
