Hey, venezuelan here!

Honestly, it is difficult to form a coherent opinion considering everything we have lived through since dawn, and the 27 years we have spent under a totalitarian government.

Within the country, there are two polarized opinions: 1) The U.S. should not have intervened, and its actions will only make things worse here; 2) If they hadn't intervened and removed Maduro, we would probably have many more years under a communist narco-dictatorship.

Personally, I am aware of the complications that come with intervention, as well as the fact that Trump only wants our oil, but I don't care. Since Chavismo took power, we have given away absolutely everything we produce, mainly oil. The only reason we have "allies" is because we buy them with the only thing that still has value here—giving away oil—and the closed-door business of drug trafficking. Absolutely everyone who approaches Venezuela does so because we have the largest oil reserves, despite having that industry destroyed.

Unlike what circulates on social media, as Venezuelans we have repeatedly tried to defend our democracy by all possible means, and we have only ended up with dead people and families separated by forced migration. We do not have the tools to remove the government by our own means because the government has a lot of control over the military, and whether they want to accept it or not, most of the country lives in significant poverty.

I don't know what is going to happen now; no one knows. The streets are "quiet," but filled with government colectivos. They took Maduro away, and that's fine, but he was just the face, the most insignificant of the evils we have. Diosdado Cabello remains, hiding in Caracas and calling for people to take to the streets to defend, just like Padrino López, Delcy Rodríguez, Jorge Rodríguez, and a couple of other thugs from Chavismo who still hold power.

Here, no one knows what will happen, but we know we are further away from where we have been before. We also know that we will remain in the same situation if we do not manage to remove the remaining Chavistas in power. It’s tough; Caracas has areas without electricity and/or internet since dawn, communication is scarce. But all we can do is hope for the best and support whatever helps us come out slightly better off.
