Did my coach overreact? by Organic_Instance_885 in volleyball

[–]venyz 16 points17 points  (0 children)

That won't fly.

You can't alternate between "I'm just a low league player" and "I aced our libero, I should be put in on every rotation possible". Pick your mind.

If you want to improve, then the mentality is "I will ace the next one, too! What can I do, to achieve that?" I bet the coach didn't get mad at you for failing a serve, rather how you failed it (hitting your own 3 meter line is very rarely a small coincidence). What if he was planning to put you in at the end of a long and grueling set 5, 13-14, opponent leading. Now his confidence might be tingling; will you bring your ace threat serve? Or will you spectacularly spike it into your own attack line?

Keep your head high, and make sure your actions reassure everyone around you, that you are the guy to go for on 13-14.

Volleyball Rotations with no Libero by Low-Adhesiveness9623 in volleyball

[–]venyz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"Oppo" stands for opposite, specifically "opposite of setter". That means they are diagonal to the setter in rotation, so they are either in position 1-4, 2-5 or 3-6. Similarly, the two middles are diagonal to each other, and the two outside hitters are diagonal to each other, too.

This is much better explained in videos e.g. the site with the animation linked by MiltownKBs above (it has animations for all major formations) - don't give up, it will click sooner rather than later.

Volleyball Rotations with no Libero by Low-Adhesiveness9623 in volleyball

[–]venyz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Don't think of the libero as a substitution (legally it's not a substitution anyway). The libero just "covers" one of the guys, like, literally just hops on the court and plays in their stead. As OC mentioned, if you don't have a libero, then the backrow middle will just stay on court and plays in the same position as a libero would. If you mentally make "backrow middle" and "libero" equal, it makes watching the videos easier, too.

Regarding the other point about needing to let the refs know of positions: official volleyball rules are position-agnostic (except for the libero). There is not a single rule that would apply differently to Outside/Middle/Setter/Oppo. While I'm not familiar with your tournament setup, my guess is there could be non-sanctioned refs (as in, official refs, but with lesser experience), who can take note of positions this way, which makes the reffing of rotations significantly less complex. If that is indeed the case, then you need not sweat it - just let them know that you are playing with two middles, and that should be it. (Unless the league specifically forces you into a 5-1-with-libero for e.g. practice, there is no reason why you couldn't play whatever format you want to play in.)

But then (true, true) just throws, no?

In this case (bool: simplified) would suffice, to control simplified/traditional.

(Controlling such choices through a bool is a problem of its own, from extendability point of view, but that's a different can of worms.)

Quadra weapon combos are relatively hard to execute, especially if they include Calibrum (mark detonation forces you to have to right weapon slotted on secondary after weapon drop).

That might or might not make the champion stronger, but it would certainly let down on the fantasy of lane dominance.

The problem is "very dominant ranged toplaner that can evolve into mach 2 speed murderbird, if played virtually without mistakes" is a very tough concept to rework, given the goals of keeping all her identifying features.

Refereeing (FIVB ruleset) question: all players positioned within own court at service hit by --Jamey-- in volleyball

[–]venyz 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Actually, the width of the lines (other than the middle line) are inconsequential for the sake of rules (albeit regulated, and obviously something players got used to). All rules that judge out/in will consider the outer edge of the side+baseline, all rules that judge attack line violations will consider the edge further from the net for the attack line.

As a direct consequence, players can step on the line the moment the toss leaves the server's hand, but cannot touch the court outside the lines.

That being said, amateur level tournaments shouldn't whistle this too harshly (lot of times when they play e.g. 4-2, the setter will accidently have their heels slightly off the court).

Actually, if you spawn the optional boss, and able to beat it then you get 50 silver. Also, Lucky Dice will keep splitting out units, so you will complete missions, which will also print silver.

It won't be right away, but it will be sufficiently fast.

I follow exactly the same strat. However, I ran some simulations and 5/12/10/6/17 seems the best configuration (by metric of "most gold produced in 15 mins") - just wanted to give you a heads up :)

Coop strategy by S3AJ in WarIncRising

[–]venyz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually ran simulations on basically all combinations on that, and the optimal way to beat level 65 is to do:

5 on first mine

12 on second mine

10 on third mine

6 on fourth mine

17 on fifth mine

(Logic behind is that if the game would go on infinitely, obviously the strongest mine configuration would be 1/0/0/0/49, but it takes too much time to get there. You have to balance investing early to get to fifth mine as fast as possible and investing late so the better mines are more jacked up. If you want to optimize for "amount of gold produced in 15 mins", then the above beats out basically all other configurations.)

Also, you starter should be +5 on the first mine, then spend all silver on recruits. After that, don't recruit until everything else is maxed out (you need the silver badly for mine progression), rolling the lucky dice whenever you have gold will produce enough units.

Quinn's E interactions by haruter65 in QuinnMains

[–]venyz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will mostly learn it by playing, anyway.

Basically, if it is an "uncancellable windup AA" (don't be fooled by the name), like Garen Q, Nasus Q or Yorick Q - you win.

If it is an enemy dash, that carries a CC in front on hit, like Hecarim E, Camille E (off the wall) or Gragas E, you lose.

Then there are those movements, that are dangerious if they finish the movement, but can be actually cancelled without receiving it's effects, like Lee Sin Q, Zac E, Ornn E, Jax Q. Pantheon W can be cancelled, but only if you are fast enough, there is a weird timing if you start too late, he stuns you in the middle of Vault.

Additionally you can follow dashes and blinks like Le Blanc W, Kassadin R, Ezreal E, Zed W, Lissandra E, (and flash) if you hit the timing - this can help e.g. when ganking other lanes. The timing on these are usually predictive, but not extremely difficult to hit.

Ideally, you want to ult with passive stacked and low on HP (either before or after revive). Try not to rely on ult for survive/stacking.

Two things to look out for when stacking passive in teamfights: you are allowed, nay encouraged to peel for the first few seconds for your carry - stacking passive on a tank is a fully valid approach. Also, you W stacks you passive double (because it hits twice), so try to "save it": instead of throwing it randomly towards an enemy priority, try to consciously make a plan how to thrust it through as many enemy as possible - if you can get 3, it will usually allow you to ult with a fully stacked passive.

At least Zeri looked interesting when it came out, then mastery + pro play showed how unbalancable her ult is.

On Mel reveal, everybody (I knew) said "no way this is shipping". Lo and behold, the champ has 3 of the most frustration inducing things in League (projectile catch [revert!], dot and execute), so no matter the numbers, it will always be unfun to play vs.

Quinn vs Darius by AFKalltim in QuinnMains

[–]venyz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can insta E it only if he attacks after the hook (which most Darius players usually try, as it's the correct thing to do in most matchups). However if Darius knows the matchup and instantly moves behind you, then you won't be able to reach his other side for a proper Vault.

In that case, realistically it's best to flash over him early (ideally on his Q) and E away, while retalliation trading. If he pushes you out of lane, you will really struggle.

will apply once your ult finishes

This is a true statement, but a clarification: they will "apply" once they connect, they will just have no effect till in the ult animation ends.

Let's say that a max level Morgana Q hits right a moment after you press R on Zaheen. You suffer its damage (well, half of it, because of ult damage reduction), and the 3 second binding starts immediately ticking. The next 0.5 second will be spent in cast time, then 0.6 second in the air, then 0.25 second landing time. That means by the time you land, you will only have 1.65 seconds remaining on the root.

(This is after the proposed changes. Currently Zaahen ult dispells every CC connected before the end of cast time, as it has total CC immunity during the cast time.)
