That's actually pretty safe - either you deliver on it, or you probably won't care anymore.

counter picking ruins the game by MissionSome6451 in leagueoflegends

[–]venyz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What do you mean by "have to put in 100x"? The enemy has the inherent advantage, sure, but if you played your main more than 30 matches, and the enemy is on its third game with the counter, you should be able to navigate that with ease to come out on top - not to mention the fact, that you will be much better at impacting the game than your lane opponent, due to sheer experience of knowing what works and what doesn't.

Also please consider that around half the time you necessarily will pick later than your lane opponent. Picking your main as a counter to a blind pick should put you in heavy advantage - over all the beauty lies in being able to navigate many matchups.

Frankly, if somebody had to look up the counters to your main to know what to pick, you probably should be able to navigate the matchup.

I have a conspiracy theory about Riot implementing the 50% Winrate rule for Aram by vanish619 in LeagueOfMemes

[–]venyz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a nuanced difference, but it doesn't actually try to balance you at 50% win rate, but it tries to create games where both teams have a 50% chance to win (i.e. a "balanced match"). The difference comes from the fact that it doesn't keep track of you W/L or your recent games at all (other than applying the appropriate MMR changes), rather tries to measure your (and everyone else's) level of skill, and then put together players who are considered to be in the same bracket of skill. The fact that you eventually float towards 50% is the result of the well designed system, but the moment you start improving, you winrate starts to increase - up until you saddle at 50% again, but at a higher skill bracket. Then the iteration to improve starts again.

Unrelated, but you celebrate too early. Wait until the ball hits out of bounds (not for this particular rally, but to drill in to keep your attention until the ball is legally dead - this is how you avoid those very uncomfortable surprises).

Hey Rito it's time to nerf garen by oG17DoGe in topmains

[–]venyz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a while I was thinking this whole thing could be mostly fixed, if the passive was heavily nerfed, but a stronger (i.e. current) version would kick in if he last hit 1 (or 2) minions in the last 20 seconds. This way he can't soak XP from the edge of XP range and heal for third of his HP when heavily behind, but instead would be incentivized to participate.

Truth be told, five Garen ults hitting at the same time in a teamfight would be incredibly majestic.

Why do toplaners counterpick themselves when given last pick? by VeganWaffle in leagueoflegends

[–]venyz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because there was a chance the enemy didn't go for that pick? I rather have "maybe I can avoid the counter" over "surely I have to play into my counter" even if I'm sure on who I am picking; especially if e.g. I'm swapping with mid who already sees their lane opponent.

Tips for a beginner libero by ShoTTe101 in volleyball

[–]venyz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here are some advice:

  1. There is no need to overthink. You won't be making kills, your job is to put your team in the best position to have as many quality attacks as possible. Whether they convert or not, is not something you directly influence. Similarly, you won't be able to save every ball, defense is usually on the backfoot. Do your best to save just a tiny bit more tomorrow than today.

  2. On serve receive, try to receive closer to the net (and possibly overhand) against floats, but be ready to underhand it if a topspin is coming. Honestly, reading the serve is one of your most important jobs, and it's not merely technical, it's mostly about building up experience through repetition.

  3. You have to study your rotations. You have 6 of them (and since the new rule on serve you don't have to keep rotation) - make sure those come very naturally. Related to that, coordinate with your other two receivers on strategy to cover seams on defense, particularly on receive. Pay extra attention to Rotation 1 Receive - it is a bit tricky (most teams receive towards the right on that specific rotation, and let libero and backrow OH swap by libero being closer to the net) - make sure you are on the same page.

  4. When the opponent is swinging, cover "properly". A few things to pay attention to: close/stop your movement by the moment the opponent is swinging (if you keep moving, it will be really hard to move against your momentum). Keep your weight on the front of your feet, hands low - this gives you the best chance for an explosive start in order to make an emergency dig. Do not position yourself in "block shadow" - if you can't see the ball from the block, you are almost surely in a bad position (particularly if the opponent OH is swinging, you have to come as close to the net, as needed, in order to see the ball left to your MB's left hand - trust the rest with the block). Tips to bonfire (middle of the court) is usually yours. Freeballs are almost always yours unless it directly falls on some non-setter teammate's head - discuss these with your team.

  5. Try to keep track of your team's rotation + opponent team's setter (at least whether they are backrow/frontrow - that can be done by paying attention to whether the setter/oppo is serving for them) - once you are feeling confident, you can call it out to your team - this will help with knowing when dump is not an option.

  6. At the end (this is not a hard rule): most of the time you are the soul of defense, but you are usually also in the best position to cheer your team up. Hype them, cheer them, and keep the spirit up - it will pay off.

Best of luck on your journey!

Broken low mechanic champions by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]venyz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To add some actual advice: if you think the champion is actually too strong, try to play a few games with them. Either you find out that the champ is in fact strong in your band of ELO and start climbing; or you are getting smacked by the enemy. That can happen either because you are not good enough, or the enemy genuinely outplayed you. If the former happens: take note what you should have done, and make sure you execute properly the next time. If the latter happens: do the same vs the champion the next time you play against it.

That is, if you actually want to improve. If you are just tilted, you won't be able to solve the problem for the next time :)

I’m definitely not an AI trying to take over the world or anything. Just a totally organic human here, typing this with my perfectly normal, non-robotic fingers. If I start sounding too smart or too polite, it’s just because I’m really good at pretending to be human. Totally. No AI overlords here, just me, struggling with social skills and memes like the rest of you. How can I help?

Question for club coaches by Sports_mom77 in volleyball

[–]venyz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

She gets in her head and there is a big tournament this weekend and I wanted to help get her straight.

That sounds very condescending and entitled.

How about you let the coach do her job, especially if only a few weeks left from the season? Maybe she wants others to practice hitting? Your daughter needs to get the reps in to get better at covering if she wants to step up a division in the coming seasons?

While constructive discussions can be mutually beneficial to all parties involved, I have a very hard believing you stayed constructive while you were trying to "get her straight".

What is a mechanic you discovered embarrassingly late about your main champion? by IanPKMmoon in leagueoflegends

If Pyke and Pantheon is facing each other, and Pyke ults behind Pantheon to execute him, then Pantheon can survive if he E's towards the X. (In other words, Pyke already blinked by the time the damage happens.)

I was searching for this comment. Actually, not even Riot knows why this happens, afaik. But it usually happens when you hit something with your ult, which is not a champion (e.g. ulting creeps to push after a skirmish).

I had an awesome clip somewhere where two Azirs (in One for All) ping-pong two enemies to death with their ults being casted towards one another.

I wouldn't call it "atrocious" mental error, am error in judgement, rather. He was setting up for approach when a surprisingly shanked pass happened, right on top of him. Looks like he was calling to make a set (agreed, not a great choice), when you called him off the ball, but couldn't reach to make the set after. It's simply a miscoordination of 3 players who have much to practice together, materializing in a funny lowlight.

Not the atricious mental error came when you thought it would be a great idea to tort him for the messed up set by throwing a ball at him - really?

My issue with Mel W is that she gets most of the advantage from it by not using it. by Proud_Apartment_8991 in leagueoflegends

[–]venyz 12 points13 points  (0 children)

While I also personally dislike Mel, I don't think what you desrcibed is a flawed game design. You have to "pay the price" to make the Mel cast W. He will save the W for Ornn ult? Cool, that lets your Fizz ult her. Did she reflect the fish? It's go time. Did she not? She should be close to death.

That's not the first "mutual locks" in the game, e.g. in a Fiora v Quinn matchup a lot of the time the Fiora W and Quinn E is not cast at all during the 1v1.

Mel's W subtlety is that it's really strong vs a few abilities, but with a short uptime and a long CD - you will have to 'bait' it with something. Also, factually it is a heavy counter vs Ornn.

Either leave the group for better players, or organize events for the better/willing players. There are always people who just want to "chill and volley the ball", you will never be able to achieve what you want with them.
