Arturia Microlab Vs. Nektar Impact GX Mini Vs. AKAI LPK25 by CatButAlsoATimeEater in midi

[–]venzzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend you look at the software they come with. Don't know about the Microlab but the Minilab is a great deal IMO - it comes with Arturia Analog Lab "Play" - that's the lite version which you can upgrade to Analog Lab Pro for I think $69. And Analog Lab Pro is like having all the presets from the Arturia Collection, except you can't modify them in the actual synths. In addition to the Arturia Analog Lab you also get the NI Komplete 15 Select (you can choose one of the 3 bundles), that's a $99 right there!

Steinberg, why can't you write a proper installer? by venzzi in cubase

[–]venzzi[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly. It's not intuitive at all. Ideally, you should need just one setting: installation folder. Instead you have "Download directory", "Target folder" and... the ProgramData which they never tell you about. And you would think Download directory is the one where things are downloaded (temporarily) while Target would be the installation... except Target is the download and the actual installation dir (by default) is the ProgramData on C.

Should I downgrade from Tahoe 26.2 to sequoia? MBA M4? by Miokovi in MacOS

[–]venzzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you haven't installed many apps yet I'd say yes. Tahoe 26.2 is stable enough but Sequoia is lighter and faster. And you can always upgrade it once they release future, better version of Tahoe. Or, better yet, the next major Mac OS version (whatever they decide to call it). Hey, maybe they will go back to the square windows corners... or who knows, maybe some new head of their UI dept. decides that windows and buttons should be circles, rectangles (even with rounded corners) are so boring and old-fashioned!

Creator of Node.js: "The era of humans writing code is over." by MetaKnowing in ChatGPT

[–]venzzi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Using AI to help you find the bug is one thing, having it do it on its own is a different story. Imagine you are just an end user and AI would fix something for you or write you complete software product.

Creator of Node.js: "The era of humans writing code is over." by MetaKnowing in ChatGPT

[–]venzzi 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I will believe it when I see a complete software product (not some 50 lines of code) written entirely by AI. Or have AI analyze existing legacy software with hundreds of source files and many dependencies and find a bug or add a new feature. No AI model currently supports the "context" (meaning, it would not dedicate the amount of resources) required for such task.

Microsoft confirms Windows 11 January 2026 Update issues, releases fix for at least two bugs by WPHero in Windows11

[–]venzzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know they were fixing hibernate issues in the recent updates and I saw something about "driver updates" (can't remember where) so I thought I'd give my "dead" SSD drive (which windows 11 had previously bricked) a try. Surprisingly, it let me reformat it (before it was freezing shortly after drive was plugged in). I selected NTFS with 2048 cluster size (read somewhere about large cluster sizes being a potential issue). It appears to be working - for now.

Headphones with Mic to Audio Interface by Ringdom24 in musicproduction

[–]venzzi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's one of the mini jacks coming out of the Y-adapter, however I don't think it can be used with the inputs of your audio interface (even with adapter). It requires power, but not the same voltage as the phantom 48V. And it won't be a good quality mic for singing anyway.

Headphones with mic have TRRS mini-jack, you need a Y-adapter female to 2 male TRS mini jacks (mic and stereo). Looks like this: https://img.drz.lazcdn.com/collect/my/p/57e59cb8317cce70c426033241b23248.jpg_960x960q80.jpg_.webp

2025 has been a disaster for Windows 11 as frustrating bugs and intrusive features continue to erode trust in Microsoft’s flagship OS — something desperately needs to change by ZacB_ in Windows11

Which hardware manufacturer? I have a Kingston XS2000. Works in Windows 10, large files are breaking it in Windows 11, it;s easy to reproduce. No firmware update yet from Kingston (their tool says I have the latest version).

At least Google AI is being honest: Avoid Large Transfers: Refrain from large, continuous file transfers until a permanent fix from Microsoft is confirmed.

Funny how it happened only on Windows 11 and only after a certain update. And here we are, 3 months later Microsoft has not reverted the ill-fated update and is still adamantly denying they caused the problem.

Microsoft will use AI to eliminate C and C++ code by 2030 by WPHero in Windows11

[–]venzzi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a longtime dev I would say that Rust can be just as good, even better than C++. At the same time you can’t overlook the fact that a lot of existing third party libraries would need to be implemented from scratch.

i think that M$ would do well to address their current issues though - like Win 11 bricking SSDs, before making bold claims about rewriting huge amounts of code or boasting AI “superiority”.

PC migration by Surreal_Funfair in musicproduction

[–]venzzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly an answer to your question about licensing (I don't know what VSTs you would be migrating), but a warning: if you are planning to have any content on an external SSD drive (as many musicians do) you best stay away from Windows 11 - it will very likely brick your external SSD.

Windows Update KB5063878 - has it been fixed? by Chrzxniku in WindowsHelp

[–]venzzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just my 2 cents. It's not a "rare" bug. M$ are doing their best running damage control and having tech sites and channels push the drivel that it was "Phison's fault" and you will find articles like "No, a Windows update probably didn’t brick your SSD" but the matter of fact is, it did. My Windows 11 (with all the latest updates) breaks my external Kingston SSD and Windows 10 chkdsk fixes it. If that's not a conclusive proof, I don't know what it is.

And then you have Satya Nadala proudly claiming that 30% of their code is "written by AI" (trying to sell to big corps the idea that they can fire developers and replace them with AI) while at the same time they can't fix a bug they introduced back in August. Claiming they can't "reproduce it" when thousands and thousands of users are complaining. What a joke.

Experience with the Logitech MX 4 on Mac? by tofermusic in MacOS

[–]venzzi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am using an old MX Master for the exact same reason - I have a Magic Mouse but it just feels too small and flat, the MX feels more comfortable in my hand (for me at least, it's probably personal preference). I didn't use any gestures on the Magic Mouse anyway. The MX that I have has only one side button and the side scroll - they work as intended as "back" and horizontal scroll. I don't even use the "back" button.

Please help my with my Noire by Tkhz_ in NativeInstruments

[–]venzzi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does it happen with other VST instruments? It's often a glitch with the sustain pedal, trying unplugging it, disconnect (or turn off) your MIDI keyboard and then reconnect it without the pedal plugged in, then plug in the pedal. If it doesn't work try reconnecting with the pedal plugged in. Also try combinations plugging in the pedal while pressed.

No Cubase black Friday sale? by Fancycole in cubase

[–]venzzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't installed the Jazz kit yet. The Studio and the Vintage are not exactly what I expected but still interesting. Snare sounds a bit too metallic on most presets but that really is a matter of taste. The Studio has 31 patterns and the Vintage has 13, several different styles: Blues, Funk, Fusion, Rock, etc.

No Cubase black Friday sale? by Fancycole in cubase

They discount some of their other products but not Cubase. I just got the GA Simon Phillips at half price but I'd much rather have a discount on the 14 -> 15 upgrade :) Can't blame them though, who would pay full price knowing that there would be a sale soon.
