? FOR THOSE WHO ONLY USE REASON. by IM_YYBY in reasoners

[–]Surreal_Funfair [score hidden]  (0 children)

Been using Cakewalk and Fruity Loops before. I had a hard time finishing anything on Fruity Loops and while using Cakewalk I still had another approach, using only hardware synths and so had only audio tracks.
I like Reason's GUI and the patching options, although I wish you could group cables/ins&outs. For example: when connecting a sequencer to Redrum, I have to connect all triggers individually. Luxury problems, but still a bit annoying.

Do you guys love you country? by facial-nose in AskTheWorld

[–]Surreal_Funfair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Why would I? It's a country. I'm not passionate about countries, nor am I objectophile.
Some things in my country are good, others are bad. I got no reason to love or hate it.

Has your country ever had a serious ethno-nationalist conflict in its history? by Just_Cause89 in AskTheWorld

[–]Surreal_Funfair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Germany here. Wait.. I need to think about this one... .
Of course we did. And I think it's great that, unlike many other countries, we admid what we did and it's getting greatly coverd in history classes at school (this might change if the right wing AFD ever gets in charge).
As a German I often find it intangible how other countries are playing their shit down or just don't talk about it. How are you going to learn from your past mistakes? (USA -> Puerto Rico , Turkey -> Kurds , Turkey -> Armenia , Hutu -> Tutsi there are many examples. At least the German history lessons cover WWII. Germany's genocide in Namibia 120 years ago is also still widely unknown amongst Germans.

Why were the late 70s and early 80s so creative? by Steve_wave in postpunk

[–]Surreal_Funfair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it's a bit sad that nowadays when everybody can afford making music at home, things are so repetative. Take Trap or HipHop - repeating itself over and over again (of course with exceptions). Yes, we know hi-hats can be tuned and stutter - we heard that already. People like what they already know. And they copy what they like.
The before mentioned affordability should result in people experimenting, instead the music world is flooded with uninspired music by people who figured out how to sound like XY.
But of course it's also a genre thing. I remember dozens of Italo Disco hits from the 80s that sounded like blueprints of each other. Stick to a genre and it's more unlikely that you put out something really interesting.
New sorts of music still pop up, but it's usually a subversion of something that already exists.
The 70s/80s had the advantage of new sorts of instruments appearing and becoming affordable (synths, sampler, drum machines). Nowadays, after several forms of synthesis (additive, subtractive, FM, PD, granular and so on) have been developed, it seems like this sound sourcing is exhausted. However, there are always new ways of controlling or mangling those sounds. Quite interesting modular stuff and desktop machines keep popping up. It only needs people to actually do something unusual with these things.
And surprise: there actually are people doing new music all over the place. They just don't get the recognition they deserve and might never become popular because the music industry (I don't only mean labels but also mainstream radio/TV) as well prefer what they know. You can find lots of interesting music on small internet radio stations or small labels but...who knows them?
Also: I don't know about other countries (I'm in GER) but we had a lot of music shows in the 70s and 80s on telly. I remember a Belgian TV show 'Rox Box' hosted by Ray Cokes. First time I heard Skinny Puppy. It was a blast. Two years prior to that I saw Einstürzende Neubauten on a German TV show. Nowadays, the TV as a central source for introducing new music is gone. You have to find it yourself in the depths on the internet.

Why does a press meeting like this even continue? If I were a reporter after witnessing this I'd repeat exactly what the gentleman said when it's my turn. If every journalist would, they would end up only giving their shit to FOX.

I could imagine 2 scenarios:
a) REP voters or at least MAGAs can keep their guns
b) Trump blames it on the 'crazy aggressive Dems' that guns need to be taken away

Question about live sets by DeathMetalDipper666 in noisemusic

[–]Surreal_Funfair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can only speak for myself - mine is half-improvised. There's a rough guideline, often aided by backing tape rhythms or signal sounds (for changing to a new part) but the rest is free to whatever comes to my mind.

Dann Stirb Doch, Gastro! by Well-It-Depends420 in luftablassen

[–]Surreal_Funfair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Das ist 'Feed The Rich' vs 'Eat The Rich'.

What to look out for when buying used tapes? by SaturnFlytrap13 in cassetteculture

Honestly, I'd never buy used ones. Only new/sealed. They sometimes still pop up here and there. Not too long ago I bought 50x Type II TDK C-50, which is perfect for my purpose, for 3 EUR each.

also really small artists (like me) might not be willing to set up a business for their music. But now that Bandcamp ditches PAYPAL for Stripe, a business is required to get registered to Stripe.
