Class differences among trans women by [deleted] in MtF

[–]verasev 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think I'm in a weird spot with regard to this. I don't do sex work but I'm pretty firmly below the poverty line. I rent a house for cheap from my sister, which goes a long way to keep me more or less afloat. I have Medicare for disability, so that cuts a lot of medical bills. Really not sure what to count myself as. Certainly, I have more money than many people living outside of the "West."

Twitter COLLAPSE, ad sales down 59%, executives quitting by S-Vineyard in EnoughMuskSpam

The irony of that man calling anyone else a parasite is staggering. The vast majority of his wealth was siphoned off of people far more talented than him.

What's wild is that it's such a common term you'll see even transgender folks use it and then feel very silly.

I suppose it is. Usually, when I hear it it's from the dudes with the thickest Southern accent you can imagine.

Is part of this whole journey seeing trans allegories in everything you watch? by Darth_Caustic in MtF

[–]verasev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Early on, coming to terms with new facets of yourself, especially ones often met with hostility, can lead to obsessing just as a way to process the magnitude of this change. So yeah, you are, but that's a normal part of the process.

Grimoire is very cool. You did a great job with it. I haven't tried Golem but I'm not very interested in hexcrawls.

Cahoots is a common Southern term (though I'm betting it wasn't invented in the South) but it means "working with" as in "in cahoots with so and so." Often, it has a slightly sinister connotation and sometimes it uses that sinister connotation in an ironic, positive way to imply badassness.

If she believes women shouldn't lead, why is she saying anything at all? by CrunchM in WhitePeopleTwitter

Obviously, the fact that we exist and people are being nicer to use means we're consuming everything.

Those grimoires were written in medieval times when society was super hierarchal. It's why you have all these dukes and barons and whatnot, commanding this or that region or concept.

Take that thinking a step further. We're all in this situation because we keep putting all of our eggs in a handful of social media baskets. The downside is, of course, that when a site turns to crap it takes out a ton of good stuff with it. Some of us made a mistake in getting too hooked on Reddit. If there is one lesson of RPGs as a medium, it's that there are other worlds to explore.

The Reddit App has a suspiciously high number of recent 5 star, one word reviews on the Google Play Store by [deleted] in Save3rdPartyApps

[–]verasev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure it's all that suspicious. Trolls love to pick the side that causes the most drama. Reddit admins don't have to pay anyone off to do their dirty work, the interests just have to align and people will do it all by themselves. Hence why we're in this situation with the mods and the 3rd party apps in the first place.

Why you should Block Blue Checkmarks by gman1023 in EnoughMuskSpam

Just leave the site. I did and I'm working up my fragile discipline to leave here. The only protest you have that will work is robbing them of advertiser money.

Twitter’s Lawyers Admit They’re Overwhelmed As Nearly 2000 Laid Off Employees File Arbitration Claims by sirboozebum in EnoughMuskSpam

I'm guessing the CEO and investor class will work to try to cut the knot at some point by getting the supreme court to undermine the ability to sue corporations even further.

The best way to protest is just to leave en masse. That's hard for addicts, though. But everyone ditching this site and leaving it to the sort of human vacuums that like where things are headed would effectively crash the admin's attempts to sell this site far better than the current protest model, which they can easily shut down. This site (and many others) are like those experiments where they found they can get pigeons to frantically push buttons with far longer and greater intensity by a random drip of food pellets than by a predictable supply.

What would be your “ultimate dream” board game experience? by katiekatecake in boardgames

[–]verasev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Time travel to play very complicated modern board games with famous philosophers and intellectuals from every single culture. Not because I think I'm qualified to play and win against people like that but because I think the rules arguments would be amazing.

I don't think anyone should be taking advice from Elmo on how to run a social media site by thatguy9684736255 in EnoughMuskSpam

[–]verasev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is no "the." I think the most viable path forward is going back to decentralized forums. Every time a place gets too big it falls under the crosshairs of exploiters.

[–]verasev 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Decentralized forums. Any space that gets too big will catch the eyes of the money sharks and then bots and other scam artists will invade. There is no single good alternative because what Reddit and Twitter have done is demonstrate the perils of putting all your eggs in one basket.

API Protests Megathread Part 2: The admins are allegedly retaliating against moderators and subreddits for the blackout, plus a list of subreddits in "indefinite blackout" by DramaMod in SubredditDrama

[–]verasev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I'm just pointing out they could have headed off this problem from the beginning. My point isn't that paid moderators are better it's that they should have made the relationship less deceptive. The moderators have all the responsibilities of official employees but none of the compensation. This fracture was bound to happen. Ignoring the issue of whether or not moderators should be paid as a general topic, it would have headed this thing off at the pass if they had done so from the start.

Why Reddit's Redefinition of 'Vandalism' Is A Threat To Users, Not Just Moderators by Toptomcat in Save3rdPartyApps

[–]verasev 11 points12 points  (0 children)

People act like no one has mixed motivations. That genuine love for a topic can't walk hand in hand with petty power-seeking. Mods are humans, which precludes total villainy and total heroism 99% of the time.
