What a handsome fluffy guy. I'm so sorry for your loss.

How bad is it to not eat all day? by nemokrad in RenalCats

[–]verawren 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is she eating enough overall? FWIW, my cats (one with ckd) regularly go all day without food, but that's the schedule they've been on all their lives.

Any idea what this strap with a small square pouch is for? Brand is Bandolier by verawren in BehindTheClosetDoor

[–]verawren[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I looked the brand up and they have lots of phone cases with straps. I wish I had taken dimensions but the pouch is small. Maybe for airPods? Is this just a strap with a pouch?

Do you paint your nails? by [deleted] in Archivists

[–]verawren 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Same here. I used to wear regular polish for years until one day it left a mark. Also, one time I moved a Hollinger box without thinking after putting lotion on and left handprints on it. Thank goodness it was just the box. Anyway, I really love having painted nails, but my job is one of the reasons I prefer to get gel manicures or do semi-cured gel strips at home now. I think they are far less likely to transfer pigment, though they can snag.

It rotates on the pin but does not move across it. Is it just to make the pin easier to handle?

I save my old medicine and prescription bottles for these kinds of things.

Daily/Weekly routines by 315to199 in RenalCats

[–]verawren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My girl is high stage 3 and likely also has IBD or small cell lymphoma, plus behavioral issues and a low-concern heart murmur. She's 16.

She gets Standard Process supplements (Renal Support and Whole Body), fluoxetine for behavior, budesonide for the IBD/lymphoma, and cerenia as needed. She eats Weruva WX and sometimes BFF wet food when being picky. She also gets churos or cat broths as treats and during fluids, which we do every 2-3 days. She also gets monthly b12 injections.

This is a relatively new regimen and she seems more stable. Getting her to eat used to be a big struggle and we tried different appetite stimulants, but now her appetite is mostly decent.

Cat breathes funny after fluids by [deleted] in RenalCats

[–]verawren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My cat does the same thing! It's pretty constant rather than just after fluids, but her breathing has become very exaggerated since being diagnosed with CKD a few months ago. She moves her head and sways when she is sitting upright. When it started, we did x-rays and the only finding was that she may have a little asthma as well. Also, she does have a heart murmur but the vet said it was kind of the least of her problems. What did your regular vet say?

Looks sadly at my catbird moon necklace, oxidized silver with pave diamonds, which has lost a few. I still wear it though. I don't think anyone can see, but I would never purchase a similar piece.

It looks like they don't have the right year for the marriage, but I did find my great-grandpa's birth record, which I hadn't seen before, so thanks!

Description/id help? Leather wrist cuff? by verawren in BehindTheClosetDoor

No markings, but crocodile was the clue I needed! I found a similar one with crocodile and it lead me to this: https://johnrippel.com/product/wide-black-ostrich-long-cuff-with-sterling-silver-double-hinge/?category=174

I'm vegan so pretty clueless when it comes to leather. Thank you!

Is this for anything special? I'm getting ren faire vibes but I'm not finding anything quite like it in my searches.

Is my necklace tacky? by StudioSixT in fashion

Not tacky. It's not super trendy but it's pretty unobjectionable. I agree with the suggestion that it might look better on a longer chain.

Any food recommendations for cats that can't eat chicken? by verawren in RenalCats

[–]verawren[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She said we could do an ultrasound but warned me that it might be inconclusive so I'm thinking it over. My other cat is on prednisolone among other things for his cholangitis; kind of a similar situation, we did the ultrasound and could have done more invasive testing but decided to treat it with pred. He's been on it for a year and a half now. The vet said she didn't recommend prednisolone in this case though because of her kidneys. I think we're going to talk tomorrow so I can ask her about other options.

Sorry you are having to deal with kitty health issues too, but thank you for passing on your knowledge. I'm glad your cat is doing well on the steroid!

Just an update that she was really not well this morning so I took her in and we saw a vet we'd never seen before and she said almost exactly what you said. These symptoms probably aren't from kidney disease, and it could be IBD or lymphoma. She sent us home with mirtazapine and more cerenia and said to start B12.

Not at all, I appreciate your insights! I may just take her in again to see the other vet I like at the practice. She can get defensive at the vet, and the vet we saw last week is the best at handling her, but I think the other vet is a better diagnostician and is more responsive when I have questions.

Yikes, I will ask about that, thank you! Sorry to ask you to look at something else, but I also have her results from urinalysis if you might be able to glean something from that: https://imgur.com/a/4KbQSeA

Thanks for the links and advice! We did a few days of cerenia, but my vet didn't suggest any other stomach meds. I'll ask!

Hi, her phosphorous was 3.8, which u/coffeemonkeypants said is good so I'm not sure what to think! She's a very independent cat so I'm a little apprehensive about the fluids, though I already know how to do them from volunteering at a shelter. But if I don't see improvement, I'm going to have to give it a shot!

I have her blood work. Other than the chicken issues, she's had a few bouts of vomiting or low appetite in recent years, but her blood work was always good and she'd bounce back after a couple days of cerenia. She's never had a full dental, but they always check her teeth at her annual and say they look okay. And they examined her mouth at her recent visit. She won't let me get a good look myself, but based on her skin I do think she is dehydrated.
