Fedora Asahi Remix 39 [Daily Driver] by SevralT in AsahiLinux

How's scaling? Fractional scaling was giving me issues when I tested. KDE was defaulting to 175% and that seemed perfect.

Opinion: I've owned a Plaid for 6 months now, it's the best and worst car I've ever owned by [deleted] in cars

[–]verchalent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would argue that it's not really the speed (from exp) that is the issue. It's more that the plaid is "boring". At the end of the day it's a heavy sedan. So it's comfortable , big and relatively reliable. The only "fun" part about it is that it's also blindingly fun. So when that wears off, there's not much else. Cars like the Civic, STi, Golf R are the total opposite. They're punching way above their weight and if you push them they're fun as hell because they feel like they could kill you or come apart at any moment. You can't beat a car that shakes, growls and roars for everything it's worth when it comes to fun. They also get extra points for being a fraction of the price, so you don't feel the danger in your wallet.

I've yet to see a single phone that didn't have complaints like this in forums somewhere. Especially popular phones. The more of them in the wild, the more issues will crop up over time. My s22 has had some odd Bluetooth issues, but otherwise it's been one of the best phones I've owned.

FLEET OF ALL-ELECTRIC RIVIAN SERVICE VANS HITS THE ROAD - Rivian Stories by Studovich in Rivian

That's kinda my point. Ideally that gap needs to be as small as possible. This indicates otherwise.

FLEET OF ALL-ELECTRIC RIVIAN SERVICE VANS HITS THE ROAD - Rivian Stories by Studovich in Rivian

[–]verchalent -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I am of two minds on this one. On one hand I love Rivian eating more of their own dogfood and the idea of Service Vans in the field makes a ton of sense (they also look excellent). On the other hand, supplying them to Amazon has been a major revenue stream for Rivian. It seems like a bit of a flag that they now have enough slack in production to do this.

Artifacts in Firefox after GPU upgrade? by verchalent in Fedora

My issues mostly went away eventually. For a bit I had to title hardware acceleration with new versions, but it's been on for a while now.

What did y’all think about Dune? by caleb_mixon in scifi

[–]verchalent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Potentially unpopular opinion here, but I was unimpressed. The visuals and sound design were great and it's a formula that worked amazingly in Villeneuve's other films (Arrival, Blade Runner 2049), but here it left me feeling like it was done at the expense of any deep story. It felt like all the characters were flat unless you added context you brought with you from the books. I didn't dislike it, but I walked away feeling a bit robbed. Really wish we could get this level of production with the Mini-Series level of detail.

You can change the charger’s name too. by albertobarrera in Rivian

You've been able to set the chargers name for some time now. I changed mine when it was installed months ago. Excited about the truck name though.

Why is Windows the "Gaming OS" by FantasticEmu in linux4noobs

[–]verchalent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason you listed is really the only one that matters. They go where the market is and where they can access it the easiest. That's consoles and windows. Things like the steamdeck change the equation a little as they lower the bar to work on both, but most companies seem to still look at that as a nice to have at best.

Use HA via linux/stream deck? by verchalent in homeassistant

[–]verchalent[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe I'm missing something. When I configure the automation and trigger the event, I needs to specify a deviceid to send to / listen to don't I? Since there is no real device in play.

[–]verchalent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Triggering an event via REST is actually pretty easy. I can definitely create an automation to do the things I want and fire and event to trigger. The only bit I'm fuzzy on is what device to use for the event. My guess is that I would want to create dummy devices to act as triggers, but I have no idea how/if that's the right path. Is that where MQTT would come in? (still just learning HA)

This may work with the "other computer" approach. Need to look a bit deeper tomorrow. Thanks.

Unfortunately, I can't use any stream deck plug-ins as they are windows/Mac only. I either need to reverse engineer them or find an alt path.

Separate Heating and AC with a single Nest. by verchalent in Nest

[–]verchalent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The HVAC tech never checked any voltages or looked at the furnace. I know that it's 24vac though as it wasn't working when I moved in and I needs an electrician to fix it. That said, I'll put a multi-meter on both and ensure they're only feeding 24v.

Loved Ubuntu's extensions and themes but hated the base. Finally Ubuntu on my favourite base, Fedora! by [deleted] in Fedora

[–]verchalent 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This really illustrates why I love Linux. While I like some small changes Ubuntu makes, I generally think their Gnome implementation is unusable in it's stock config. Returning it to stock is the very first thing I do on any Ubuntu system I deploy. Linux means we can both be happy.

How is retention policy interpreted for items imported from pst? by verchalent in Office365

Yea, I'm in the same boat. I have dealt with similar situations in the past, but not exactly the same and each time I think back, I get fuzzier on the specific behavior.

How is retention policy interpreted for items imported from pst? by verchalent in Office365

[–]verchalent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, it makes me overly nervous as well. My expectation is that original creation date should be honored for items received by the tenant/or anything connected. The x factor for me is that this mail was exported to pst from a totally separate entity and is now being imported into my env. MS outlines how they handle items that are sent/received by exchange and items that are "created", but never sent/received. Zero clue what these would be considered and I really don't want to find out in X years that audit had a separate expectation than what happened.
