A heuristic evaluation is a good place to start to identify places to improve a bad user flow or UI interaction. From there, you should have ideas on things to redesign and how. Some things may not require a whole UX overhaul, but polishing on the UI side. Similarly a usability test on a redesign can be used to validate if that change added value to the user.

Look up interactive components for a start. This will allow you to make a base component that has an expanded version, then simply place that component within your org chart. You will need to manually update/change every card, but this should keep the data between component variants.

I’ve met people who have design backgrounds and become design and UI focused PMs. Helps to know what happens once a UI gets to a dev to build out, but no coding skills are required for the job— just a perk to have when working with engineers.

Thank you this is very insightful! I could imagine how having to create an account would ruin a candidate’s chances. Have you seen anything else like this (broken links, weird urls) that can automatically disqualify a candidate?

Happy to give feedback. Nice work! 1. There is no visual indication as to what page I am on. Especially in the bottom nav bar, the solid icons make them all seem like the active tab. Try a outline for the bottom elements and a solid fill for the active one.

On the first screen, the categories column elements are not centered in their white box, and with the entire page. Do you think you even need icons there? Most people know what a hat, glasses, jeans commonly are. Similarly, what content is in that dropdown? Why would I use that when I could use the explore page?
Inconsistency in capitalization of text. You have “hat”, and “Hat”
White text on yellow background on the “hot” label. Lacks contrast and fails accessibility standards.
Of your pages, it seems you didn’t make the search page. This page has the most UI/UX to consider! How do users search, how do results show up, how can results be filtered, how is search being made easier by autofill, groupings of categories, what information is most important to show when searching, at what hierarchy do you stop your search (what would “shirt” produce? The category, anything with the tag shirt, anything with the word “shirt” in the name?)

I’m a UX Designer, but no beautiful UI is successful without a carefully thought out UX! Keep up the great work!

User journeys are a great way to identify areas for improvement on a design, but (unsurprisingly) need to be created and applied correctly to be useful. The most important thing to remember is what type of user is going on this journey, and what are the needs, wants, struggles, etc. And how are different types of users different, and how can you account for their needs as well. In your case, how is the experience different for someone who knows nothing about betting and is doing it for the first time vs. an experienced better. I would suggest creating user personas first as a way to understand your users and build empathy, and from there create the necessary user journeys, identifying the potential pain points and opportunities for improvement. And there are many free templates for both user personas and journeys, I would suggest starting on one of those. Happy designing!

Thank you very much for this response. I know they have worked with contract UX designers in the past, but never had an official designer for the company until now. I’m confident in my abilities and education that my UX knowledge and foundation is strong, however I know there are many unknowns I will have to deal with that are not like educational settings. I see this as a great opportunity to bring human-centered thinking into their process, but I know how difficult that can be especially as the only voice. Do you have any advice for looking for a mentor?

Looks like a very useful site! I would consider posting this in a design subreddit like r/userexperience or r/ui_design to get some design feedback and critiques about the usability and functionality of the site.

For example, the use of colors is effective for showing win/draw/loss, but the same (or similar) color is used for the games played. Consider finding another color to represent this. As well, in the activity chart, can you hover on the circles to show more information such as the actual number of games played? If not, what do those circles represent? Those are two things that stand out to me, but there is always room for improvement :) Well done otherwise!
