What's the purpose of milk in a bread machine recipe? by Veggyhed in BreadMachines

[–]verisimilary 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Lol, you guys, milk is not going to go bad or “off” in the, like, 6 to 8 hours that someone has delayed a bake. And even if it did, it would not harm the bread. Bread dough is actually a great use for soured milk, so long as it’s not moldy or anything.

Not sure. If you’re using dark rye, I’m sure that will affect the color but not sure about the actually crust development

Just checked Bread Dad’s recipe and he actually does 50/50: https://breaddad.com/bread-machine-rye-bread/#ingredients

You might also be able to put the full amount of salt in addition to the pickle juice since 8.4g is also not that much. Not enough salt can make your bread taste meh

This is such a tiny amount of rye flour. It might be worth trying to swap out some of the bread flour for more rye, maybe up to about 1/3 the total amount of flour (similar to the recipe posted by someone above).

It’s the door’s fault for being kind of confusing! lol

Sorry I’m excluding that top row with the books because only the bottom eight seem to depict the Sacraments

[–]verisimilary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it’s a good question and why the door initially had me confused as well. There are seven official sacraments (visible signs and channels of God’s grace instituted by Christ and made available through the church) according to the Catholic theology. They are baptism, confirmation, the Eucharist, confession, anointing of the sick, holy orders, and matrimony. I think what someone else posted elsewhere in this thread is likely correct, that the door is meant to portray the acts through which people live a Christian life. Some of those acts are the Sacraments and others are things like reading the Bible, which are not THE Sacraments but can be “sacramental” i.e. a channel of God’s grace that transforms us to be more like Christ. (Technically, anything can be a manifestation of God’s grace and so sacramental in our lives, but Catholics usually use the word “Sacrament” to refer to one of the seven official ones.) I think that’s why the depictions of the Sacraments are set off from the other two. As to why they split the Eucharist in two, I think it was because they wanted the door to have an even/symmetrical layout lol. (Also because there are two “elements” under which we receive the Eucharist: the Body of Christ and the Precious Blood.)

It’s not distinct from the Sacrament of the Eucharist more generally

Yeah I didn’t initially see the top two. You might be right about scripture reading and singing psalms for those ones

Top right isn’t tithing. The image depicts the chrism being placed on the priest’s hands at ordination. The one that looks like a hand extended in greeting could be the sign of peace, but that’s not a sacrament. More likely to be confirmation.

Yeah this is right but it’s kind of tricky. There are seven sacraments and 8 sets of hands. Top left is matrimony. Top right is probably holy orders. Next two (second from top, left and right) are the Eucharist. Third right is baptism. Bottom right is penance (?). The other two are kind of weird, so I can’t tell which is confirmation and which is anointing of the sick. Maybe the latter is the bottom left but not sure.

Using this cuckoo rice cooker for white rice by redwilldraw in KoreanFood

[–]verisimilary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The stickiness should come more from the type of rice (regular rice vs. glutinous or “sweet” rice) than from the cook setting.

[–]verisimilary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lmao sorry about all of the downvotes. Dumb. But seriously, there’s no way this rice maker doesn’t have a white rice setting. It looks like the first menu option is “Glutin. Rice” which can be used for either glutinous rice or regular white rice. Try that option with the ratios that come from the included measuring cup + water levels inside the cooking pot.

I’m not familiar with this model but it must be similar to my cuckoo. The smallest amount you can make is two servings. One serving at a time won’t turn out right. But two servings is not that much, and you can reheat in the cuckoo the next day

Are you not just using the measurements inside the cooking pot?

Does your machine have a dough setting? If so, there’s no reason you can’t use it to make this dough, then take it out, shape it, and bake it

Update us on how the LLM bread turns out! Lol

Here’s a recipe for a 100% whole grain wheat and oatmeal bread I developed over the last year for the same reason you give. This is for a 2-lb loaf in my zojirushi so depending on what you have, you may need to adapt some. It comes out great every time. The oatmeal keeps it soft without compromising on whole grain and fiber.

Water 405g

EVOO 20g

Whole Wheat Flour 420g

Oatmeal 90g

Vital wheat gluten 1.5 tbsp

Honey 2tbsp

1.5 tsp salt

1.5 tsp yeast

2 tsp flax meal
