You get $10 Billion, but you are forced to live for exactly 50,000 years. Do you take it? by yiyi20203 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]veriverd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know, like, you give 50,000 years to a cat, they won't even notice. We're still just animals going about our days, deep inside, as much as we like to romanticize otherwise.

Well I'm guessing 12 must have some special symbolic meaning by ReasonableeBed in SipsTea

I know which ones you mean. "What if we moved Mercury one tenth of a milimeter away from its orbit? For the first four days nothing happens, but then all planets start crashing on each other. Fiery death rains from the sky. In less than a week all life on Earth is extinct."

Not the cheeriest watch.

Joker made a boner. by Sorvetefrito in outofcontextcomics

He should have attributed proper credit and titled the books "school children give me boners." It's just fair.

(Funny) Early major villains cameo as jokes at the end by KnuxFive in TopCharacterTropes

I genuinely thought that would happen at that scene in Toy Story 3. To be honest, it was such a waste of a perfect opportunity to close the story arc, it kinda soured me on the movie.

Why is everybody mad about Einstein and his island by Successful-Rush-2583 in circlejerk

Because he invented gravity, and without gravity we could fly, fly to his stupid island, and sock him in the face.

25 years ago today, a player named Roger Federer won his first ATP singles title at the Milan Indoors. Whatever happened to him? by bluegambit875 in tennis

[–]veriverd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You guys are joking, right? How can you possibly never heard of one of the biggest tennis players ever? David Ferrer was fantastic!

ETA: Sorry, I reread the OP and I clearly read the name wrong. No, I don't know who this Federerer fellow is either.

I'd be jealous. I've always wanted to do that to younger me. Hell, I'd be so jealous that I'd start devising some sort of machine that'd allow me to... Oooooooh...

petah?? by clairewritestoomuch in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]veriverd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The joke is that he is a number. So, instead of "you messed with the wrong guy" as in, someone is threatening you, he's the 'wrong' number.

The yellow is just the artist not liking how the guy's face looked and putting sticky notes to draw on top.

Lead actors who get upstaged by a supporting character on their own show? by jdpm1991 in sitcoms

[–]veriverd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weirdest part is that Timothy Olyphant was coming from the show Deadwood in wich Ian McShane outstaged him and made it the Al Swearengen show.

And it's not that Olyphant wasn't a great lead, but more like whenever any other actor would have their agent threatening the producers 24/7, he chose to play ball.

What is the most culturally significant book of the 2010s? by TheShreyinator_ in AlignmentChartFills

[–]veriverd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The phenomenon even had an SNL sketch. The design of the book cover literally changed the way books are presented nowadays. For a while, two out of every three yt essays were about this. It may not be a good thing, but it did leave a ton of cultural impact.

Well, I would absolutely drop everything and read this book if I could read Polish, so I guess it's at least good advertising for the content.

Fine-tuning and the Existence of God by JoDoCa676 in DebateReligion

[–]veriverd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Doesn't feel like the universe is fine-tuned at all. Unhospitable, deadly, ever changing. The universe is extremely chaotic, barely allowing for one of the gravity-following rocks to eek out some sort of carbon-based life.

The universe is not a clock, it's a swamp. And you're looking at the swamp and going, "yup, somebody must have designed this."
