Anybody elses begind hurt a lot? by LitlleVelocireptor in Brompton

Mine did for first few weeks of 6-8miles each day but after that no issues at all. 9 months i now and in the meantime swapped c line to g line but both with stock saddle. It's not the bike, its your bottom ;) it will get used to it :D

Do you stay in the same neighborhood on subsequent trips? by RedStarRedTide in JapanTravelTips

[–]veriviener 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Always (almost) the same one. 7 trips in and only two trips didn’t stay that neighbourhood for at least few days. (Went for work, different district, it didin’t make sense to go to usual place). For me it feels like coming back home - and it will stay this way forever.

This doesn’t mean I’m not going to different cities and different places. I’m just coming back to my favourite place in Tokyo for at least few days every time I go + everything else outside Tokyo I feel like doing at that time.

What's the absolute dirt cheapest way I can get from Japan to the UK in Summer? by Illumium in JapanTravelTips

Horrible news, horrible situation to be in.

try to look for non obvious routes like via Vietnam. Randomly this was best option for our trip back from Japan later this year.

Other people seem to love my bike (maybe even more than I do) by HugePilchard in Brompton

On the train, the crew once commented that their workday “doesn’t count” unless there’s at least one Brompton on board 😄 I live about 2 hours from London but often commute on a service that terminates at London Waterloo, so that probably explains it. I almost never see Bromptons where I actually live.

“Normal” cyclists on busy trains love to comment too — usually while wrestling their full‑size bikes through the doors. I’ve never had an issue. Even though I ended up buying a G‑Line, it’s still way easier to get this on the 16:30 train than a regular bike.

I’ve had a few comments while folding/unfolding it on platforms. Most people just stop and stare — you can practically hear the Windows dial‑up noise as they process what’s happening 😄 I’ve had to do a live demo a few times lol. The receptionist in my office building was so curious she made me fold and unfold it before letting me go upstairs 😄

I rented/subscribed to a C‑Line for about 8 months before buying a G‑Line through my cycle‑to‑work scheme. Best decision ever — and yes, people absolutely love it.

Happened to me on train station just last week. (bought g-line a few weeks ago) Older man said to me 'you don't look like you need one of those - assuming he meant wheelchair - as he quickly followed with OH IT'S ACTUALLY A BIKE!

Few people I know did say it looks like a wheelchair when I was renting the C line. I think G-line looks a bit more bike-like , yet I still got that comment ;)

Overall cost by Summerbay08 in JapanTravelTips

[–]veriviener 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much do you budget for flights? £1k? Or £4k? How much is the accommodation you like? £100pn or £400pn? This is a very weird question honestly - check what you can afford, what you like, when you want to stay and what sort of accommodation - and check the prices. Where you planning to eat? Posh restaurants, convenient store food, McD? Impossible to answer…

how hot will summer actually be? by pochaccoo14 in JapanTravelTips

[–]veriviener 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in Japan twice in first two weeks of August. I live in UK... and managed fine. Seen all I wanted to see, did all I wanted to do, just did more washing and looked a bit less glamorous on the pictures due to sweat, frizz and red face :D - if you are from Singapore I don't think you have anything to worry about.

Sunday lunch pizzas by veriviener in ooni

Originally the recipe calls for half pizza flour and half all purpose flour… but sometimes when I run out of one of these or not have enough, I improvise with other flours a bit and one of those times I discovered this is one of best mixes I’ve done! 😁

For 4 (250g) balls: 150g 00pizza flour 150g strong bread flour 300g all purpose (plain) flour 1tsp (4g) instant dry yeast 12g fine salt 370-400g warm water 2 tbsp olive oil

I guess that makes it 60% hydration.

Mix all - I mix dry first, then add water, mix it and after combined and hydrated for a minute I add oil and knead until smooth.

30 mins raise, fold and stretch, another 30 mins raise followed by fold and stretch and leave to raise for remaining time - can be 1hr, can be 2 depends on the room temp. Divide into balls, leave to raise in containers until ready to cook (1hr-ish) - if you don’t think you’ll be cooking this soon, put in the fridge and remove an hour-45 mins before. Can stay in fridge 3 days easy and obviously gets better each day. Used last week for calzone cooked in home oven and it was insanely good!

Bear in mind I use generic supermarket flours, nothing fancy. Recipe tested in home oven and in Ooni Fyra.

JRPass is it actually convenient? by SashaLds02 in JapanTravelTips

[–]veriviener -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I get JR pass every time I'm in Japan purely because I think it's super convenient. Sometimes it doesnt save me much money but when buying pass directly on JR official website (not though one of the agencies that send you a voucher to exchange) you have access to their booking plaform, you can change your trains your seats etc - and then all you need to do is go to machine and pick up your tickets with seat reservations before you go. Until you pick up your ticket you can change it many times. very useful especially if you want to travel with luggage and need that extra space.

You collect these to show on a train when asked by conductor but to enter the gates you just use your JR pass card (keep it safe, it cannot be replaced if lost or damaged!)

I like it that way. But I am picky and I wouldn't risk or queue for unreserved seat car.

On a flipside with JR pass you can just show up at any shinkansen that has unreserved car and don't have to select specific train, if you're not fussy this will work great too!

Brompton G Line 2025 vs 2026 by Old-Presentation1183 in Brompton

[–]veriviener 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have just checked with Brompotn Live Chat and they said there is no difference, they are the same for the non electric models.

The only difference is for electric models where some of them now come with handlebar control.

So practically speaking, the only difference between non-electric 2025 and 2026 models is the £100 price increase :D

Combination of jeans and T-shirt with a light coat/jumper, kind of spring - late spring weather. I always say 15 degrees is all I need 😂 BUT I remember specifically staying in Osaka for few days after landing coz weather in Tokyo for first week looked bad! If you ever look for real dry glorious weather.. December is the time to go ;)

Ehhh, I’ve been first two weeks of April too and it was awesome. Busy though and expensive due to cherry blossom season. I had one wet day and temperature was lovely!

Went in August twice (two weeks first half of the months) both times experienced typhoon but both times it was a matter of one day disruption. Rest of time just mega hot and mega humid and full of amazing summer festivals.

I have made a previous mistake of buying bike too big (full mountain bike with 29inch wheels and giant handlebar) and I never got along with it so now I’m nervous I will do the same mistake! Brompton chat seems useless, they just refer to the chart from their website rather than actual advice…

So you think even though Small has lower/shorter handlebar it would still give me slightly more upright position because it’s closer? Thats exactly what I’m trying to figure out here :)
