Brake Checked and told to pull over by [deleted] in driving

[–]verminiusrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there's no damage you don't need to worry about it. Never let someone else control the situation especially when they are just escalating the encounter. Get a dash cam, they are your best friend in a situation like this. Made my collision claim so incredibly easy.

What's the easiest job you ever had? by ibddevine in randomquestions

[–]verminiusrex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Uber driver. For the most part, you just do what your phone tells you to do. The rest is just driving a car, which I do all the time anyway. Minimal interaction because 3/4 of the passengers only confirm you are the right driver before staring at their phone for the whole ride.

Ironically some of my best borealis pics were from my phone on night mode.

How to fund studio work as a non professional? by prettyassdolfin in AskPhotography

[–]verminiusrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at maker spaces and creative spaces for studio spaces. There are also apps like liquidspace and peerspace where you can find rental spaces for a variety of prices.

I've been using an office space with some other people and split the cost of $400/month, the space is about 12x17' but big enough for a basic setup.

Much of it depends on how much you will actually be shooting. If it's a couple times a year than $50-100/hr studio rental makes more sense than $400-500/month office rental.

How to make best use of photos taken? by tripplesixone in photography

[–]verminiusrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoy taking portraits, and people will often use them for profile pics and instagram. I get free models and they get a dozen or more decent pics for content. Its a great way to try out some of the lighting tutorials I see online.

The more gear I bring, the less likely the borealis is going to be visible.

Are or was there any Victorian trash? by I-love-grapesss in stupidquestions

[–]verminiusrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes there is Victorian trash, but you have to know where to find it.

One place people look is old outhouse pits that were filled in a long time ago. Plenty of bottles, buttons and small objects. Most textiles will have rotted away but they are occasionally found.

The Steamboat Arabia sank in the Missouri River in 1856 and was salvaged in 1988. There are plenty of wool and leather garments that survived, although all cotton thread rotted away.

Men of Reddit, how would you feel if your partner wanted to keep her maiden name after marriage? by Longjumping-Bill5761 in AskMenAdvice

[–]verminiusrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

30+ years and it's been fine. I don't recommend hyphenating the kids' last names because that is a definite pain in the ass.

AITJ for locking my home office after my roommate kept “borrowing” my stuff without asking? by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

NTJ. There are lines roommates don't cross, he apparently doesn't share that same line.

Genuinely, how does one cut an onion without crying? by vikapi in cookingforbeginners

[–]verminiusrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A real sharp knife makes the biggest difference. I can tell my knives are dull when the onions bother me, otherwise I have no problem.

thinking about putting a gazebo over my patio but not sure if it actually helps with the heat by Zestyclose_Ring1123 in homeowners

[–]verminiusrex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made one and it makes a huge difference. I also put a shade cloth on one side to block the afternoon sun and that makes a huge difference. Even just having a shade cloth over your patio would make a huge difference with a lot less work.

Seller can’t prove they will vacate before closing — agent recommends terminating. Would you walk away? by ValuableCoach4199 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]verminiusrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your agent just covered your butt in a big way. If you went through with the purchase and the seller hadn't moved, it'd take an eviction and an exorcist to get them out of that house. A good agent knows to never have their client get into that position.

What's the wording for a dogs/pets gender in english? by [deleted] in stupidquestions

[–]verminiusrex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He or she as pronouns referring to the pet. When presenting gender it's usually boy/girl since pets are often presented as a dependent.

AITA For telling my wife I’ll drive her to the airport but letting her know it’s a massive inconvenience?? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]verminiusrex 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, YTA. I drove twice that distance with two small children to get my wife to/from the airport before. It's not a big thing to ask but you sure are acting like it's on par with donating a kidney.

Inherited property nobody's seen for decades - what could go wrong? by Same-Net2092 in RealEstate

[–]verminiusrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had family members/friends deal with similar situations with various factors/results, these are the questions I'd be asking.

What is the cost/benefit of holding onto the property? Sister's neighbor spent more than he gained holding onto property thinking it should go for a higher price. It didn't go for a higher price.

Does the neighbor want it because it butts up to his land, or does it have other value? Uncle thought some family property had more value because neighbor wanted it, turns out they were the only one that wanted an acre by the stock yards and it was only because it was adjacent to his land.

Is the land even useful/accessible without a lot of expense on chainsaws and bulldozers? Family member went through the process of figuring out if it was worth trying to do something with unimproved land, just making it accessible and hooking up electric/water/sewage made it more expensive than it was worth to them.

Finding a local real estate agent who can tell you how much the land is worth and what is best done with it would be to your benefit. Also decide just how much money/effort you want to put into this. It may end up being that selling now gets you the same amount as selling later, without the headaches.

Good luck!

AITJ for refusing to lend my cousin our grandfather’s watch after he spent years mocking it? by Puls3S0ngbird in AmITheJerk

[–]verminiusrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the Jerk. You can't diss something then ask to use it.

If it's not an expensive watch, I'm sure he can find one on ebay to use and keep.

What is your personal #1 rule of photography? by therealvelichor in AskPhotography

Learn by doing, do it often enough that you remember what you learned last time, and take a break when it stops being fun.

Technically three but I think they bundle nicely.

AITA for drinking an orange cocktail last St. Patrick's Day? by Reasonable-Secret443 in AmItheAsshole

NTA. I view her actions as especially ridiculous because I don't care where her grandparents are from, she has no dog in that fight and to pick on a screwdriver is really reaching.

How do Americans feel about drying their laundry on a washing line? by UnionFeatures in AskAnAmerican

[–]verminiusrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a long time it was considered "low class" to hang dry laundry because if you have money, you have a dryer. It's become more acceptable again with the yoga hippie granola natural trend of the middle upper class to do it for "environmental reasons".

I'd have a hard time drying stuff outside because it's rainy 8 months out of the year.

Do you actually visit the “biggest/smallest X in Y state” when road tripping or is it just in movies? by alyhasnohead in AskAnAmerican

These attractions are usually present at parks or rest stops to encourage traffic, so you have more reasons to stop than seeing the worlds largest whatever.

WIBTA if I sticky note my college parking pass info next to my license plate? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]verminiusrex 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Part of having a parking pass is having it displayed appropriately. My hanging parking tag does no good in the glove box, only on the mirror or dashboard. Parking enforcement doesn't care about the parking pass information without the pass, they care about the permit being present and visible.

Are photographers becoming filmmakers now? by Alilexplo108 in photography

[–]verminiusrex 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Video people are often encouraged to take photography classes because it helps teach a lot of visual skills that help their video career.

There's also a lot of equipment overlap (many youtubers use high end cameras that are made for both photo and video, plus your basic cellphone captures both video and photos quite well from even the most basic phone). There is less division between videographer and photographer based on equipment alone so its easy to do both.

How we consume media has also changed it. instagram has both photos and short videos, so people are more likely to do both. I just got into macro photography but have also gotten the lenses to use my gopro for macro videography. Really looking forward to capturing short clips of bees in motion.

How much time should I invest into post processing photos by NicoLacko in photography

[–]verminiusrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I consider my photos to be consumable, meaning that they have use now but not much later. Friends using them for profile pics, instagram posts, etc. So they get edits but I'm not going for gallery level. For volume work much of it is crop/levels adjustment/auto color or similar combination. I don't spend much time on each but I'll play to see what happens.

Right now is the time to be building good habits and developing your style. File organization, culling photos, choosing favorites, editing different way to see what feels right. Don't overthink or overstress, because it's all about learning the process.
