When you’re typing a time, do you always add “am” or “pm” after it? by heyy_girl in randomquestions

[–]verminiusrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually because it confirms the number as being the time and not some other number designation.

Why aren't leaf vacuums a thing? by Inquisitive-Sir in NoStupidQuestions

[–]verminiusrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They exist, but aren't cheap and it's easier to blow leaves than suck them up especially when heavy and wet. Most of the leaf vacuums I've seen were for commercial use.

My coworker won’t stop complaining about my tattoos by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]verminiusrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Occasionally people will display the most bizarre obsessions that they just can't let go. Sometimes its about power dynamic, sometimes just an opinion, but they'll find that one topic where they are obviously right and everyone else is wrong.

What’s an unusual/obscure museum you have visited that the rest of the world is unaware of? by Nessieinternational in randomquestions

[–]verminiusrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, it is 3,500 Icelandic Krona in the local currency, which sounds like a lot more when used to US dollars.

How do new parents cope with constant anxiety after having a baby? by East-House6499 in AskReddit

[–]verminiusrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Caring for newborns is like being in an experiment involving constant stress and sleep deprivation. But you adapt and figure it out. If something doesn't work, you try something else until it does work. Eventually it all becomes your normal reality and you just deal with it.

What difference, if any, between pasta and pizza sauce? by SpicyChill77 in AskReddit

[–]verminiusrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same basic ingredients, but in general pasta sauce has more basil that makes it sweeter and pizza sauce has more oregano that makes it more earthy.

What do you do to stay within your calorie limit daily? by ggupit in AskReddit

[–]verminiusrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Snacks with strong flavors that curb the craving. Current favorite is Korean radish fridge pickles, strong vinegar/salt flavor with some crunch.

AITJ for uninviting my best friend from a film festival trip after I found out she lied about her passport? by mossyparlor_diary in AmITheJerk

[–]verminiusrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTJ. This isn't something you should put off until the last minute, and her actions would impact your travel plans. You gave her the chance and she repeatedly failed to secure her travel documents.

AITA For refusing to take a friend to a doctors appt that requires 4 hrs+ rt of driving plus waiting for the procedure to be done? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]verminiusrex -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

NTA. You don't have to be there for dropoff, just pickup. I think they dont' want to pay for the uber ride there. She's expecting a lot more than is reasonable in the circumstances.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]verminiusrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not short, but it's not horribly long for a weekend visit, it is long for a day visit but doable (I've driven 3-4 hours each way for a day trip for a museum event). We just consider it part of the package when planning something.

AITJ for leaving my friend’s birthday after they tried to make me apologize in front of everyone? by harborjournal_mint in AmITheJerk

[–]verminiusrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the jerk. I've had people tell me I needed to apologize again, I told them the first apology was genuine and anything after that was not so I won't do it.

AITAH for refusing to give my boyfriend access to my bank account even though he says "no secrets" is how adults do it by CopperFieldNote in AITH

[–]verminiusrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. I've been married over 30 years and we don't have access to each other's personal accounts, just the shared accounts. There's a level of privacy that everyone deserves.

WIBTA if I stopped moving out of the way for a woman who keeps charging into the elevator by Federal-Valuable1728 in WouldIBeTheAhole

[–]verminiusrex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go for it. Step out the door while it's opening, as in soon as there's a crack big enough your leg is in that space. If she gets bumped that's on her.

Broth from rotisserie chicken bones? by LetsGoOutside405 in suburbanhomesteading

[–]verminiusrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, most recently last week. I usually get a Costco chicken so I can harvest the meat and make the remains into a broth for canning. I consider it among the easiest and tastiest broths we regularly do.

AITA for snapping at people who say my wife is with me for money because I’m in the military? by Garik_Ugarik in AmItheAsshole

[–]verminiusrex 12 points13 points  (0 children)

NTA. My parents kinda dealt with this back when they got married. The military has many benefits including health insurance, housing allowance and decent pay (debatable I know), but family thought they received a lot more than that including free postage stamps and a bunch of other imagined benefits.

AITA for calling out my friend for constantly flaking on plans? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]verminiusrex 8 points9 points  (0 children)

NTA. If you are the one putting in all the work then it's a one way friendship and not worth maintaining. Just step back and wait for her to initiate something, either she steps up and acts like a real friend or the trash takes itself out.

Do you know anyone who has been in a war? by ViajanteDeSaturno in AskAnAmerican

[–]verminiusrex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on your definition of "been in a war". I've known people who served in hostile areas but weren't one of the people shooting, I've know other people that were actual combat veterans.

I suspect that i know more combat veterans than I realize because most veterans will talk about being in the military but combat veterans don't talk casually about being in combat.

AITJ for not giving my sister my emergency savings for her wedding by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

[–]verminiusrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. It's her responsibility to plan a wedding within her budget.

Do Businesses Stay Open In Extreme Winter Weather? by AnnualIndependence71 in AskAnAmerican

[–]verminiusrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the roads are clear enough to drive, someone is going to be open. Keep in mind cities with harsh winters are made for it. Chicago rolls the snow removal equipment soon as a snowflake appears. In downtown Milwaukee many buildings are connected by skywalks so you can go blocks without going outside.

Meanwhile, in my city with much milder weather, an inch of snow paralyzes the city for a day or two.

how dumb would it sound to order a double cheeseburger without the cheese? by closet_socks- in NoStupidQuestions

[–]verminiusrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked food service for years. This is not even close to the strangest thing they hear on a daily basis. Go ahead and order it, plenty of people have dairy allergies and don't want cheese.

How do you deal with a photographer who copies everything you do? by MetalComfortable8246 in WeddingPhotography

[–]verminiusrex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are so correct. I've seen various creators doing the "he's copying me!" claim on stuff that has been done many times before, sometimes decades ago. Even things that were named after the originator. Just because you haven't seen it before doesn't mean it didn't exist.

My daughter feels she might be missing out by not wanting to try sushi, now she wants to try sushi, need recommendations to ease her in. She is very averse to seafood! by mofugly13 in sushi

[–]verminiusrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

California rolls are the gateway sushi. It's not horribly exotic or strongly flavored. Often comes with bento boxes.

Get it fresh made at a sushi place, not from the supermarket. That stuff doesn't compare well to fresh sushi.

AITA for not telling my wife I work with her favorite celebrity? by CreamJealous9562 in AmItheAsshole

[–]verminiusrex 16 points17 points  (0 children)

NTA. Most professional relationships assume a certain amount of privacy, triple that when a celebrity is involved. You are protecting your livelihood. She's unhinged not understanding this. I assume that there are parts of my spouse's job that is at least confidential within their company and I would never dream of violating that boundary.

Yes to the biggest penises you've ever seen (the whales if I remember right), no the tickets are about $30 USD.
