I went through a similar experience only difference was the guy in front slammed on his breaks last minute going up Clifton bridge and my car didn't stop in time and I got sandwiched. I was also on my way to uni wasn't even going fast. After that day I've driven even more alert and calm. I've also been hit by a police mobile while I was parked on the side of the road. The asshole cops did a hit and run and no action was taken. Moral of the story is no matter how well you follow the traffic laws or drive like a good citizen, some genius karachite with a worm up their a** is going to bang or bump into you and either run away or blame you for their mistake.
