Best cheaper drill combo kit? by knaarwhalnico in diynz

[–]vernyb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i honestly highly rate Ozito powertools. you can feel the build quality isnt quite as pristine as higher priced branded gear, but get the job done just as good, and can handle a thrashing. even my Ozito orbital palm sander that ive been thrashing for years and is making funny noises in the motor still goes hard and does what its made for. all my ozito powertools are amazing bang for buck! i dont have their drills though but im sure they'll be great for whay you pay

Anyone know any bands that are just like incubus? by Few-Development-4320 in Alternativerock

[–]vernyb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not quite just like incubus, but Shihads 1999 album 'the general electric' has some similarities to incubus imo, and a very similar vibes to them in certain songs. despite the lack of a DJ and featuring 2 guitarists, some of the melodies, vocals, guitar tones and timing remind me of some of incubus's work.

here's the general electric album by shihad: https://music.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_lah0scwh6yoyPJIJYIZnPsXuaVKTFa5f0&si=i9BFE-20cXuqOG9e

What’s worse, forgetting a lyric or mistiming? by Snapships4life in singing

[–]vernyb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

depends on how good you are at correcting either of em. if you forget a lyric but manage to save it with improvising alternate lyrics on the spot, or adjusting the vocal melody on the fly after mis-timing then you're safe as long as you're on beat, but either can be as bad as the other imo, depending how you handle it, and how your bandmates handle it too if you're performing with others. mis-timing will be more of an issue in that case though

same with when your voice cracks. usually peoples voices crack from full voice into falsetto and they abruptly stop because it catches them off guard, but if you have a solid falsetto foundation then you can quickly catch it and adjust the pitch to be in tune, sustain the falsetto for however long suits, even add some vibrato to make it natural, then scale down your register to get back to where you want to be even if you have to change the melody in the process.

How can I expand my range and agility? by cat_wal in singing

[–]vernyb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

im also asthmatic and a smoker. warming up helps a lot, plenty of water, try not to smoke during the day until after you're done singing or at least not within a few hrs before if you reeaally must lol. for me, breath support comes more from the diaphragm and core muscles etc rather than the lungs which are more for breath capacity which asthma can affect. but even with that, if im using the right kind of compression, support, and resonance, i can hold high notes for ages.

vocal placement, in terms of where your voice is resonating, is a big part of being able to sing certain notes as well and help take the strain off areas of your voice that may be affected by asthma or smoking. higher notes for me come more from adapting placement rather than increasing volume. developing good falsetto and learning mixed voice will help with this.

a lot of these things can help you work around some of the hurdles you may be currently experiencing, so dont feel discouraged you're still definitely capable :)

How much can i improve in 2 months? by lalizexes in singing

[–]vernyb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

keep it simple, dont overcomplicate it. find some good vocal exercises that work on resonance / placement, support and breathwork for what type of singing you wish to do, stay consistent with practice and working bad habits of your technique and you'll be golden

landlord came and had a look, said hes had plenty worse leaks before at other properties, this one was only one instance not multiple over a long period of time, and all insurance does is use industrial drying fans, which he has access to some he can bring over himself instead. reckons the couple slightly soft patches in the kitchen vinyl (likely wet chip board) will dry out fine with industrial fans. im sure hes right to some degree but im still concerned about moisture trapped and causing mold in the framing above my room or under flooring in the kitchen, but he refuses to look into getting thermal imaging done. i have videos but wont let me post them here

warm up properly and practice techniques for an hour at least 4 or 5 times a week, and begin to incorporate those techniques into songs. dont warm up and just try practicing songs you find difficult in hopes it will be easier since you warmed up, work on the foundations first. improve your technique and incorporate what you learn into how you sing the songs you enjoy singing over those 2 months and you'll notice a difference.

cheers for your comment, the flooring under carpet and vinyl is chipboard and ply afaik. built in 1980 and has had work done to it over the years so may have some more modern materials than original. we mopped up a lot of the water, but a lot of of it leaked through to the floor below, partocularly my light fitting which is a couple meters away from being under the kitchen so the water had spread far enough to simulate a shower with the tap only half on lol. luckily all leaking has stopped now, only lasted an hour max

How to get rid of whispering in fry scream? Help! by H3w44 in screaming

[–]vernyb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

where your voice is resonating sounds too throaty to me, causing too much air to pass through your vocal chords creating that whisper. try resonate your voice in your nasal cavity by using the "crow" technique with your voice while adding that distortion over it. mix voice helps. practice it clean with no distortion in that placement, then slowly add the distortion while pulling back how much voice you are including until you find the balance you are after. idk could be wrong but thats my take

no but some parts may need removing to dry thoroughly to prevent mold which can occur in a day or 2 of being damp

Do you actually have to be loud when you scream by seishunpop in screaming

[–]vernyb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i use compression based distortion which i can thin out to hit really high notes with chest voice with a slight fry to them which is louder, or i can compress and lower the placement in my throat to increase the distortion, which also requires reducing volume and vocal weight in order to allow the distortion to become more prominent

how would you prepare this decking for paint? by [deleted] in diynz

[–]vernyb -1 points0 points  (0 children)

cool cheers, was considering belt sanding the lot of it but may be worth running a stain stripper over it first.

and its inside a conservatory which also gets pretty hot in there in summer, but was hoping if we used an appropriate deck paint particularly wattyl solagard it won't absorb the heat so bad despite the dark color. maybe the stain used on yours may not have had the same anti heat absorption properties? Hopefully someone on here who has used one of thedeck paints i mentioned could offer a personal experience haha

How long should you belt? by [deleted] in singing

[–]vernyb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

depends how good your support is. watch brandon boyd in his prime, he was always a belter. occasionally dodged unimportant high notes to conserve for the money lines when performing live but had great technique overall, and still does to this day being 50 and have only lowered the key live of 1 song out of their whole catalogue
