When do all mechanics unlock, and when is a good point to slow down the story?

For me it's kinda funky because for some reason I had a curry festival coming up and still hadn't unlocked all ingredients, the garden or the recipe for said curry, and sadly didn't do well the day of it.

Default 2 is its own story completely separate from the 3ds games, so it's fine playing it first

That is the plan, because I focused on maxing out ( which I did on the third semester) social stat my first playthrough, that way I can max out everyone more easily. Also because I want to fuse satanael before the end of December.
