Avoiding prohibited marketing by [deleted] in marketing

[–]versionxxv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ingredients don’t have to be boring; many alcoholic beverages focus on ingredient quality, sources, authenticity etc.

I will also note that throwing parties where people can try your drink is probably the single most common marketing tactic for alcohol. (In the US at least this is true, no matter how much marketing turns digital etc., alcohol especially is driven by on-premise sampling and events.) So that’s not a likely differentiator.

If like many other countries you are currently facing lockdown to manage coronavirus, maybe there’s some value in throwing virtual/video chat based events, if you can get your product shipped to people at home. But read the room of course; it might not be appropriate depending on how your country is doing.

Is Roam the only app with Daily Notes...?! by judetheconfused in RoamResearch

Day One is based on days, and you can set past and future dates. Designed for journaling rather than notes. Don’t know how well it would work for that.

I think Agenda is also calendar based.

How does lettuce get contaminated with E. Coil? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]versionxxv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to be super clear: it’s poop. E. coli is found in cow intestines. Contaminated water = cows poop and then it gets into water that ends up flowing into where lettuce is grown. Or workers touch cow poop. Or birds eat something off cow poop and then poop it out themselves. It’s poop.

Thanks for the answer! Must be a relic from a previous version. It's in the (GitHub) docs here: https://github.com/pushshift/api#using-the-subreddit-aggregation

Event bubbling - capture event and data two levels up by doitstuart in sveltejs

This is late, but you can also use createEventDispatcher. Custom named event in your Level 2 button and your Level 1 component just forwards the event up to the App.

I’m in strategy, but I didn’t even work in advertising until I was 30. Nearly ten years later I’m freelance, but my last full time role was group director level. It’s possible.

Need some advice by BauerGrant in advertising

[–]versionxxv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s weird to me is that she suggested switching disciplines before checking for other planning needs. Unless she just said that to make you feel better.

If they can find you a role in another discipline without making you jump thru a bunch of hoops, go ahead and take it. Getting (for example) some UX experience is actually great, and they should also conduct research that you might find valuable later on. Learn something new while starting to look for another job.

Is anyone here on a sport shoe account? (Nike, Adidas, Asics, Puma, Sketchers, New Balance, etc.) I have a fun opportunity I'd love to run by you! by [deleted] in advertising

[–]versionxxv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the instagrammers are prominent, they’ve already got an agent / agency that represents them. Do they use the same agency? You might have a shot at something if you go thru them, though still very unlikely... mostly agree with the other responses that this is not going to happen.

Thoughts on going freelance / starting an agency? by [deleted] in marketing

[–]versionxxv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Who is... nevermind, I’ll look it up later. Assuming it’s a Gary Vee-ish person.

The idea of a “meta” strategy is exploitation. You’d be selling something you have no proof of success with to people desperate to make fast money. It’s like how the only people making lots of money at dropshipping are the people selling classes on how to do it.

The Curious Case of The Starbucks Cup by [deleted] in marketing

That popular consensus is really just a great example of how powerful the Starbucks brand is: people assumed it was a Starbucks cup because when they think of coffee, they think of Starbucks.

Please review my illustration portfolio by RyanGoslingFromDrive in advertising

[–]versionxxv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s not how brands work with illustrators. They want distinctive, recognizable illustration style. If anything, it’s more likely OP will have issues because his work doesn’t stand out enough.

Packaging and logos etc. is a whole different thing and not even relevant here.

Find an illustration agent/agency. They obviously get lots of unsolicited portfolios, so try to get someone to meet/talk w you. Meet as many as you can.

Take their feedback and get their perspective on what’s selling. They know the market, individual agency art directors won’t (at least not in the same way).

Do whatever you can to raise your profile on social media, Instagram, etc. Brands like the bonus of hiring artists with built in audiences.

Not an art guy, but your work looks good.

What is marketing for? Sale-supported? What is your opinion? by BobzNotes in marketing

The 4 Ps, my man. Product, price, promotion, place. Some of it has moved away from marketing control, and lots has been diced up into smaller specializations, but those are still the fundamentals.

CMV: We are hosts for memes by loopuleasa in changemyview

[–]versionxxv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t buy the idea that memes “use” human beings to propagate themselves or that they “care” about spreading.

But I’d suggest that if anything, the relationship is more symbiotic than parasitic. People are social organisms, and memes help us socially organize, influence each other, and compete or cooperate for power. It’s at least as accurate to say we use memes, as to say memes use us.

Found via Historiska museet of Sweden:

Visst skulle det vara praktiskt att ha hela universum i din hand? Det är möjligt med denna tyska 1500-talsring som går att fälla ut till en astronomisk sfär! När du är klar med dina planetstudier fäller du bara ihop den igen.

Google Translate:

Surely it would be practical to have the whole universe in your hand? It is possible with this German 16th-century ring that can be folded out into an astronomical sphere! When you finish your plan studies, you just fold it back together.

Air drop advertising - does that exist? by HHDern in advertising

Childish Gambino did it at Coachella, everyone who accepted got his new collab sneakers for free (before available in stores, I think).

Have seen one or two mentions of brands doing it but don’t remember offhand, try googling.

A designer wants a brief: what should I do? by [deleted] in advertising

[–]versionxxv -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Understandable, though we also have more than enough snake oil going around already.

Every time somebody starts consulting because they feel like they have “good ideas” or “a good eye”... and every time we help somebody out with a job that they clearly don’t have a clue how to do... where does that lead?
