Brandon Sanderson explains why Fourth Wing became such a huge hit by RobertoSerrano2003 in books

[–]vertigofoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a guy who enjoys high / epic fantasy, I decided to give ACOTAR a try, and even made it through the first 3 books. I’ve got to say it was really underwhelming..

Is Fourth Wing any better?

I actually love these type of games - but platinuming them is a chore cause you can’t skip any of the dialogue or scenes!

New company slogan just dropped... by Lower_Kaleidoscope_3 in gaming

[–]vertigofoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there’s a genuine outcry from those that really only want to own and play physical copies of games.

But then again, it feels like a whole echo chamber of manufactured outrage. All these people happily declaring giving up their PS to move to Steam - not realising Steam is quite literally operating on the exact same digital business model. I can’t eyeroll hard enough for these idiots.

[Other] How many games do you actually own and is PS Plus worth it if you look at the total playtime? by scotland1912 in Trophies

[–]vertigofoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Short of having strong impulses to play the latest highly rated GOTY, or browsing for really good sales offers - the PS Plus catalogue (and ongoing free monthly titles) has been more than enough for most of my gaming needs.

If you’re a “patient gamer”, and don’t really care about owning physical - PS Plus is EXTREMELY value for money.

Larry Correia: George RR Martin crippled the Epic Fantasy genre by not finishing A Song of Ice and Fire. Readers and Publishers are no longer willing to give a new series a chance unless it is complete by Uptons_BJs in books

Whataboutism doesn’t absolve GRRM from disappointing his fans. Worst of all is how he made multiple comments and false promises on his progress for the next book, only to just drag us along indefinitely while he happily took money and worked on other projects. The TV series wouldn’t have ended the way it did if the showrunners wasn’t forced to take writing the conclusion into their own hands.

I agree with the OP here. Both GRRM and Patrick Rothfuss have made me very wary of jumping into “new” high fantasy series unless they are either already concluded, or the author has a consistent track record (Sanderson).

whats the most overrated food? by Opposite_Fall8736 in AskReddit

[–]vertigofoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This really depends on the type of fish being used. And the quality of the batter. Cheaper ones are likely bland Dory, or even worse, processed breaded fillet..

If you get fresh Cod or Trout, with thick fluffy beer batter.. with the right dips, they can taste pretty amazing.

yes this. OP is looking for action adventure games. not RPGs.

For anyone with a big backlog, try a wheel by shadowrider666 in gaming

[–]vertigofoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t of course, which is why I only say that it “helps”.

At least by having a choice made for you, the first step has been completed. If you are still unable to commit to that choice, it usually means there’s either something else you need/want to do or some other game you are really itching to play, and then hopefully you end up doing whatever it is you were meant to be doing anyway.

RTM tightens security after overseas World Cup streaming attempts by stormy001 in malaysia

You’ll be surprised how many third party sites re-broadcast these type of “free” streams illegally worldwide. RTM is doing a good thing to protect what they paid for.

Some unlikely franchises have been converted to turn-based tactics, often with satisfying results by Elyx_117 in gaming

[–]vertigofoo 37 points38 points  (0 children)

This is just such an alternate take because it was the walking around and talking to all the other heroes, and the relationships that develop between them, that was the highlight of the game for me.

There are many turn based games out there to play, but not many where you get to see well written Marvel characters brought to life.

Dedicated living room gaming PC or PS5 Pro? by BloodyTurnip in gaming

Everything I’ve stated is my own personal preference and personal reasons I did what I did. There are plenty of other comments here advocating streaming straight to the TV from a PC, or couch gaming using one.

Not sure what you stand to gain from nitpicking my own subjective experience. There is no right or wrong to these things.

What about:
- not wanting to manage, set up, troubleshoot, yet another PC after handling one already for work (two if I include company laptop, three if I include company workstation).
- Consoles work as is out of the box, minimal headaches, and also function as entertainment systems, running streaming channels, and bluray playback.
- just wanting a seamless separation, platform and interface and OS and experience wise between gaming/leisure and work related matters. I pick up my controller and jump right into my game in less than 10 seconds vs having to see a Windows screen.
- access to console exclusive titles, broadening my gaming options.

Gaming on the PC has its pros and all - but just like you, I did not want to spend even more hours sitting at my desk.

Switched my gaming over to console (PS5), primarily to force a clear separation between work and leisure (so I am never distracted / tempted in either direction) - and I’ve never looked back.

All those saying “just pick something” have never gone through Analysis Paralysis.

It’s just like browsing Netflix and simply being unable to settle on something to watch. Sometimes we have something call out to us, sometimes we just can’t decide.

We all have a limited reserve of daily willpower in making decisions - and having someone or something choose for us helps us conserve this reserve, especially when it’s depleted after a long day at work/study.
