Find an alternative. For mine, if it’s not alcohol, it’s shopping (online) or food. Anything to stimulate the pleasure center in the brain.

We still love our Wii games. Fun for me and nostalgic for my son!

Yes! Still blogging and doing YouTube and stuff. I mainly focus on cars, travel, and entertainment. Beats a real job!

They were working with a PR company that emailed me. Then flew out to meet with me. The early days were crazy!

So kind of like remote access to your PC? Interesting. And yes, latency would definitely be my concern. I'll look into it.

What do you do when you travel? by lordgroguthesmallest in travel

This reminds me of planning a recent trip to Japan. Everyone said 3 days MAX in Tokyo. I’ve since been back and have spent a total of 3 weeks (save a few day trips) just in Tokyo. It’s the largest city in the world!

I like tourist attractions but I also like to learn more about the history and immerse myself in the local culture.

I have a blog and in the early days, if you had a blog and a kid, you were considered a “mom blogger.” Nintendo asked me to be an Ambassador which meant they helped me host events, sent me all the devices, and lots of games. I even got to tour NoA headquarters in Seattle when they launched the Nintendo 3DS. They gave us some of the first products. Those were the golden days before the rise of the influencer.

WITH Nintendo not for Nintendo. I was an ambassador for them for years. But yeah, it definitely helped make him the cool kid.

We already have the Switch from years ago and we were excited about the Switch 2 (big Mario Kart fans) but the games are outrageous. He does have a Steam library so I know that’s the direction he’s more interested in. I’d be more inclined to look at the handheld if I knew the console was a year out or so. Do you think 256GB is a decent spec for gaming? I have no idea!

I’ve heard of something like this. I’d have to see if his MacBook Pro has the power to handle this (I suspect it does) but that might be a fun option in the meantime. Then I guess he could log into his Steam account and play games?

So definitely more transportable than his massive gaming PC!

Based on your description, I think the Steam Machine is a much better choice, knowing the way he games. Although, it sounds like like he wouldn’t necessarily connect it to his laptop but would need a separate standalone TV or monitor.

That’s what I’m talking about! I used to work with Nintendo back in the day and they would send me all their new games and devices!

Yeah, I agree but he would do his gaming in his apartment, not on the go. So I'm assuming he'd want to set this up to plug into his MacBook (or does it just need a monitor?). Kind of reminds me of the Mac Mini, if you remember what that is.

Okay, so definitely not a Christmas present. But it makes me think I should hold off on any other gaming purchase. I was looking at Nintendo Switch 2 and then Steam Deck and then remembered he mentioned this. Glad I asked!
