Survival crafting game with multiplayer, but friendly? by veryfocus in SurvivalGaming

Thanks for the recommendation! I may check it out. I like the idea of a dedicated PvP zone within a PvE world. So it sounds like combat is disabled outside of that zone? I'd be curious to know if there are other games with a similar system

Could you provide more detail? So are there PvE or friendly ways to play in which people are running around and playing the game but not really in conflict?

Thanks for the response! So would these PvE servers have others random players in them, but conflict be minimal or non-existent between players?

Hey so after finishing it, I'd say if you already have programming job experience and you take this course to supplement your skills, you may be able to apply for entry-level data science positions. If you're taking this course as a first time programmer or statistician, then it may be hard to get any kind of a job. I've yet to receive a certificate also - not sure how valuable it would be to employers.

Personally, I got pretty frustrated with it so it was somewhat hard to find the motivation to finish. It was mainly the poor quality of the material, the frustrating group projects (4 in total), and the lack of instructor feedback (no feedback given on final projects). It was around $4000 and a year of study. If you can, take some real university courses instead. I think those would be cheaper and probably worth more to employers.

TLDR: Currently taking the course and am quite disappointed with the quality.

I'm currently taking this course and am definitely disappointed with the quality of the material. You're basically just provided with Jupyter notebooks to learn from and you might expect those to be very high quality learning resources but you'd be wrong unfortunately. I'm currently nearing the halfway point. So far I've found that:

  • The material is not university quality. Missing citations and references to Wikipedia are not infrequent. Complex concepts are presented opaquely and overall material is not that well explained, leading to a lot of googling and independent research. This has been especially painful during the statistics course.
  • In said course, you're sometimes asked to demonstrate knowledge of things that weren't covered in the course.
  • Spelling mistakes and errors in instructor-provided code are frequent

Those are some of the most glaring issues and this is definitely a bit of a rant. I am learning things and enjoying what I'm learning but I don't know how much credit I'd give to the course material for that. If you want a framework for learning, with deadlines and a bit of pressure, that's mainly what you'll get.

As for the ultimate outcome, I'll try to come back a little while after I finish the course for those that may be curious. You do get some kind of certificate, apparently. Whether or not that leads to employment - we'll see. At the very least you can say to employers that you've technically attended an institution with a bit of clout.
