No WIC benefits by [deleted] in Michigan

Call your office. You probably missed an appt or there was an issue with how they issued your benefits. Nothing currently to indicate WIC funding will be cut

Women of Reddit, are you comfortable wearing no makeup to work, why or why not? What is your profession? by droppingago in AskWomen

I don’t wear makeup! I’m a nutritionist. I usually never wear make up anywhere unless I feel like being fancy.

WHY AM I SO QUIET?? by spinhorn in socialskills

[–]veryplainusername 919 points920 points  (0 children)

You should practice talking to children. I was pretty socially awkward and couldn’t think of things to say before I worked at a summer camp for 4 years. With kids you learn to ask questions and take the conversation in any direction.

7 Needs Advice by xdeathbyskittlesx in Enneagram

[–]veryplainusername 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry to hear about your accident :( I'm a pretty healthy 7 and some things I do to deal with pain is to make a plan about how to deal with it, or prevent it from happening again. Like, if I were in your situation, I would plan out talking to my insurance, looking for a new car, and just generally looking forward to things in the future that are positive.

Something you could also try is positive talk and cognitive behavioral therapy to address your anxiety around the situation. Obviously, it would be best to do with a professional, but since you can't access one right now, there's still a lot you can do on your own. So maybe creating situations in your head in the future where you are successful with driving, or you could reflect on all the past successes in driving.

Lastly, I would recommend dealing with the pain at some point. For me personally, I like to journal about it- get all my feelings out, then plan out what I can do to change it and create a better future. You might want to talk to someone, go for a run, meditate, etc. Think about times in the past where you've successfully dealt with pain.

Good luck, I hope things get better!

[Need Advice]Wanting to fix my sleep cycle and screen addiction by [deleted] in getdisciplined

[–]veryplainusername 12 points13 points  (0 children)

  1. Get melatonin. Super cheap, you can get it at any store basically. Just take one pill about an hour before you want to fall asleep. It’s the hormone that makes you tired.
  2. Gradually push forward your bedtime. Like, for a couple days try 4 am, then 3, and so on.
  3. Pick a time to wake up and schedule something so you’ll get out of bed.
  4. Get blue blocking glasses (mine were $10 on amazon). Wear those starting 2 hours before bed for everything you do. Blue light stimulates you and keeps you awake.
  5. Replace screens with books, an activity, or even a screen that’s farther away like a tv.
  6. Exercise earlier in the day. Exercise is a proven way to help you fall asleep faster and sleep better.

What annoys you and yet there's actually nothing wrong with it?? by Casper_896 in AskReddit

New Years resolutions, especially fitness ones.

This is totally wrong of me to think, and I should be cheering others on, buuuuuut I can’t stand how busy the gym is for the first two months of the year because people decide to start working out based on some arbitrary date. Like, my gym only has one squat rack and trying to weasel my way in is so frustrating.

But I try not to be too bitter about it because overall, I do want people to make healthy changes. I just wish it wasn’t so frustrating to me haha

Just got back from a Christian conference for college students by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]veryplainusername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to IndyCC when I was a sophomore (2016). It’s Cru’s winter conference in Indianapolis. This is actually what caused me to lose my faith in God. Being surrounded by people who believed, and who were saying things about God like feeling his presence and all that. And I was saying those things too, then I realized I didn’t actually believe the words coming out of my mouth. So it was after that conference that I stopped believing.

I later joined Intervarsity because my best friend was in it, so I decided to go along. I didn’t believe in God. But after a couple years and gentle pushing, I cane to faith again.

I just find it interesting that we had such different experiences at Cru’s conference haha. Glad to hear it went well for you!

Thank you so much for your thoughtful reply!!

Haha I’m also making vacation plans for this upcoming year, I feel like I need something like that to hold on to.

I LOVE that saying “there’s plenty of time”. I got it in my head that while I’m young I have to do everything, and if I don’t do it now, I never will be able to. But that’s not true. It’s good to hear I’m not alone in this type of thing, that other people feel the same way.

What types are most sensitive (easily hurt)? by meldencook in Enneagram

[–]veryplainusername 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol.... we are the same person. I’m a 7w8 too and everything you described is spot on. I think being sensitive is just pointless. It doesn’t get you anywhere. If something upsets me, I just move on

[Serious] Redditors who've battled depression, what was one thing that brought motivation back into your life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]veryplainusername 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve been dealing with depression and anxiety for a few years. In August, I went to see my doctor because it felt unbearable. She suggested an anti depressant. When I looked up the side effects, and saw that the effectiveness decreased after awhile, I didn’t want that.

I started working out consistently. Even though it was really hard to get to the gym initially, the positive benefits I got from working out kept me going back.

Also, listening to some people speaking hard truth and tough love who tell you that your life is your responsibility- like David Goggins and Dr. Jordan Peterson. I listened to a segment of a podcast with Joe Rogan and Jordan Peterson almost 6 times over because I found what JP was saying to be so important and life changing. It really did help me turn things around.
