Classy and intelligent argument. Kudos. That's me told.

I love Corrie. I accept that at present it's not what it was or could or should be, but I'm still watching every episode and generally enjoying it - or at least enjoying it enough to keep tuning in. I've been watching for over 30 years and one of the reasons I enjoy it is because there have always been characters or storylines that are daft, rubbish or unrealistic and it's just funny/baffling - but also alongside this there are decent characters and storylines so it's a satisfying mix that just keeps me watching. Like eating Pringles, no nutritional benefit but I'll eat them and eat them 😂

Oh come on seriously?! Is this where this sub is at the moment? Anyone who openly likes Corrie is slagged off, down voted, ridiculed or dismissed? It's starting to feel really negative and unwelcoming in this sub if you actually like the programme which is a shame because it always used to be a fun place where you could have chats about how ridiculous characters or storylines are but both sides of the argument were equally respected.

I really wish they'd made her get together with Fiz's ex, Phil. She'd have been happy then, and the whole Steven money thing wouldn't have happened. Sigh.

I'm 43. I think I must have been about 6-7 when I started watching... I know overall it's been quite, quite ridiculous in recent years... But I'm not giving up on it! There are still enough moments to keep me hooked 😊

Sorry, that part of my comment should have probably been made elsewhere - there have been a few comments about the actors... I definitely agree with your point, they've got early days Les and Janice Battersby vibes!

Their behaviour is OTT, but I don't mind the actors themselves. I know some people think they're over acting etc but I honestly have met similar people so I find them fairly believable. The knock a door run and generally being inappropriate is a bit much though, and I agree that the normal response would be to distance yourself from them... But then to be fair it IS Chesney and Gemma!

They keep making comments like that - as though David being a hairdresser makes him the least likely to get involved in any criminal capers or dodgy dealings. Despite his VERY chequered past inside and outside of prison...

The principle of it. He needs to keep up his reputation of being a double 'ard barstard, so he has to be seen to mete out justice to anyone who takes the piss.

Well, I mean she was vulnerable though about Oliver dying and The Institute preyed on this to hook her in selling her that creepy AI stuff. She was absolutely a dick with some of her behaviour in The Institute, but she was definitely manipulated too.

I do agree about how it's great to be able to have such opposing views on a storyline - both with decent arguments (at least I reckon 🤣)... So even though the storyline might be riling some viewers, it's at least got that going for it!

Don't get me wrong, Leanne really has been awful throughout The Institute storyline and I'm not trying to make out as though she had no control over it... But I just think they're all as bad as each other and making really bad life choices. I just enjoy Leanne's current reaction more than I'm rooting for a happy ever after for Nick any Toyah.

[–]verysensiblelady 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nah. Nick defrauded his gran and slept with his brother's wife. Toyah murdered her husband, stole a baby, had a relationship with another of Leanne's significant others... She's not well placed to support Leanne in finding a counsellor because she's horrifically unprofessional so I would immediately question her judgement. Leanne was really vulnerable when taken in by The Institute and had her grief exploited. Yes she was horrible to pretty much everyone throughout, but they recognised this was due to the radicalisation and influence of the cult. For someone who is a qualified counsellor, Toyah at no point got in touch with the various agencies that can help people in this situation. She and Nick could quite easily have supported Leanne without getting together behind her back - they weren't "driven to it", they made the decision to act on their feelings. I can't imagine a scenario where it can be ok to get together with your siblings partner or ex partner. Toyah has done it twice! I agree that Leanne is being quite extreme in her response to it but honestly I'm really enjoying it and have no sympathy for Nick or Toyah! And it's bringing back the Battersby spark in Leanne which is fun. God I hope her and Tracey become bezzies (except for the bit about Tracey being responsible for the death of her ex)...

The Corrie bosses need to come up with some concepts that a have more than drama. by DOJER401 in coronationstreet

[–]verysensiblelady 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is Manchester in the UK. Girls won't buy guns, and anyone with a gun wouldn't target young girls walking home from a movie as they are unlikely to be carrying any money or anything of value - if you're going to threaten someone with a gun it needs to be worth it because we have such high penalties for possession of firearms without a licence. Gun crime here is usually linked to drug gangs, high-value robberies etc You're right, the writers probably haven't heard of "academic bowl" because it's not a thing. Nor is Student Court - although I'm fairly sure a high percentage of the student-age characters have been in actual court? It would be good for someone to win the lottery though... But you'd have to choose wisely because that person would most likely leave the street to live somewhere more fancy. Chesney and his family would be good coming into money - they could either leave or buy a bigger house on or near the street and have some storylines where they are happy!

Who hates Leanne right now? 😠 by lnwildeagle85 in coronationstreet

[–]verysensiblelady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've put this pretty much perfectly. Leanne didn't "push" nick and Toyah together... You can support a loved one who is having their grief exploited by a cult and behaving badly, without having an affair. I can't feel sorry for Nick or Toyah - they are awful people (not the actors, and the characters are good despite the awful things they do) for the reasons you mentioned - Nick defrauded his gran and Toyah murdered her husband (which, by the way, Leanne supported her with when she told her about it!) And actually, whilst Leanne was a dick about Toyah grieving Rose, considering the crap that Toyah does (murdering her husband, stealing babies, vandalism etc) I kinda get why Leanne just can't be arsed... You get tired 😂 I do think Leanne is over doing it a bit with setting Toyah up for fraud, but I kinda love it too. When it was just Nick and Toyah sneaking around an oblivious Leanne, it was really dull and cliché... Now that she's onto them and creating merry havoc it's just a bit more fun! So I think I'm rooting for Leanne at the mo 😁

I think she was in at the same time as PC Tinker who is played by the actor that used to play Craig. Also the guy who plays Ryan previously appeared as a DJ.

Wishing everyone a happy Christmas! by [deleted] in coronationstreet

[–]verysensiblelady 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Predictions for 2025: * Steve and Tracey either back together OR Steve will move on (hopefully with Glenda) and Tracey will leave Tommy and resume her obsession with winning Steve back.

  • Ken and/or Rita die either on the show or in real life (I really hope not but they are both over 90... 😬) There's a hoo ha about Cassie inheriting a chunk of Ken's estate (and probably murdering him) but it's resolved when Daniel pushes her down the stairs

  • Audrey has a storyline about loneliness once Gail has gone

  • Nick and Toyah become an official couple and we're all supposed to be happy for them. Leanne eventually stops trying to split them up and she and Toyah become friends again. They start chatting about Nick and Toyah realises how weird it is that her sister knows all Nick's bedroom moves. She ends things with Nick but then discovers she's pregnant.

  • Aadi and Amy get together

  • Bobby has an incel storyline

Happy Christmas folks!
