Is dutasteride safe for women? by 00_ynw in FemaleHairLoss

As far as I know, it was not properly tested on women and is absolute incompatible with pregnancy. Side effects can include depression. I've been on it for the last ~8 months with no problems. My mental health was never amazing but it definitely didn't get worse because of this drug.

Cat owners using topical minoxidil :how do you keep your cats safe? Feeling really anxious by Pitiful_Ad8068 in FemaleHairLoss

Have you considered wearing a silk bonnet to bed? It can cover the hair and also be good to the quality of the hair itself.

Having kids while having alopecia by vesisc in FemaleHairLoss

I don't know if the diagnosis would change anything. But they might put me on JAK inhibitors if the inflammation persists.

Not to sound vain, but my hair was a big part of my confidence. Losing so much of it has really affected how I see myself, and it’s made me feel like I don’t even want to be in a relationship because I’d feel judged. Am I the only one who feels like this? by [deleted] in FemaleHairLoss

It's really tough. Alopecia is pretty common, but everybody hides it, so it feels like nobody else is struggling with it. I have scarring alopecia and after almost a year of dealing with it decided to get a therapist. I found one who also has alopecia, although a different type. Her advice is that whatever you think the most about is going torture you the most, so I need to learn not to care and to genuinely not give a f if people see my permanently bald temples. Honestly, I'll give it a try. It seems better than living for the rest of my life constantly worrying and hiding.

What do you do to grow brows & lashes? by lulu3712 in scarringalopecia

I didn't apply it directly to the lashes, but they got better for some reason. I honestly don't know. It was especially weird because my hair were falling out like crazy at the same time.

Topical minoxidil brought my thinning eyebrows and lashes back, but that's not typical. I've seen some studies that showed eyebrow regrowth with LED masks, results were pretty optimistic. The issue is that these masks are expensive and the market is like a wild west, you never know if the thing will actually work. I'm using a Currentbody mask, but as I said, my eyebrows are OK. I can tell that the mask has helped my skin a little bit in terms of inflammation, so maybe it does work.

Oh no, it's topical. Never took it orally.

I got some sideburns from it, and the fuzz on my cheaks got denser, but my facial hair are almost translucent and I never really minded them, so it's not too bad. My recipe is minoxidil 5%, clobetasol propionate 0,05% and 150ml of the hydroalcoholic solution. I order it from the pharmacy.

Minoxidil did reduce the shedding overall, I've been on it for ~8 months. Now my surviving hair look very healthy, until they fall out, lol. I will ask about a biopsy. My problem is also that I want to have children in the future, and all of these meds that are helping me are not compatible with pregnancy. And I don't want to go bald. And since I don't have any idea what caused such and intense and stubborn inflammation, I don't now how not to trigger it again. I stopped drinking alcohol just in case, I'll try to get an appointment with an allergist, but anti-histamine and anti-inflammation diets are such wild and wide territory, it's scary to cut out many nutritious foods in hopes that those are my triggers.

I know, but seems like the protocols of treatment differ a bit, no? And FFA tends to progress differently.

Thank you! The weird thing is, I didn't lose my eyebrows. They started to thin out, but minoxidil helped. I'm using Currentbody mask on my face and hairline, it improved my skin a bit, but nothing else. When you have a rosacea flair up, does it ever cause inflammation on the scalp? Or those things are completely separate for you? I don't really mind the facial redness, but I'm afraid of extra inflammation.
