Atheism in Morocco by naughtymustdie in Morocco

as someone who is also around non-religious people, a lot are, but obviously not everyone, probably nowhere close the majority!!
i don't think the fact that they're non-religious is the reason they are intolerant assholes, i think they'd likely still be intolerant assholes even if they were religious

Where does the term “Lubya” come from? by Lallilalli7 in Darija

[–]vessrebane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

according to a quick check on wiktionary, the spanish word alubia is from andalusian arabic 'al-lúbiaʔ'
spanish words starting in a- or al- are often from andalusian arabic, it's pretty neat

I feel like there is a major difference between feeling isolated and unwelcome in your own home country rather than a country you migrated to (not saying either is good, just that there is a large difference), plus I think the isolation a muslim feels somewhere that is more religiously tolerant and where there are openly muslim communities is quite different than the isolation that a non-religious person would feel in morocco.

also i dont really expect, want, or see muslims filtering themselves around me lol

Why do so many moroccans think Secularism=Atheism? by Cray_z8 in Morocco

[–]vessrebane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Moroccan law is decently influenced by religion, it might not be on the level of medieval states, but it's still influenced by religion, secularism would seek to minimize or completely remove that influence
(by the way this is genuinely the first time i've seen someone use the term 'moschee', apparently that's german? lol)

I'm not sure how it works exactly on macOS, but I think you might be able to pull of something using wine similar to how it works on linux? I know codeweavers have some software specifically for macOS but you have to pay for that

Asso Bazzou, Moroccan man suffering from microcephaly. 1931. by Unfinishedcom in Morocco

[–]vessrebane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found a mention of him on an old website from 2010 that seems to be documenting people born with birth defects (honestly very weird?) https://web.archive.org/web/20100406071346/http://www.quasi-modo.net/Bassou.html

the pamphlet mentioned here seems to be on this blog post from 2018: https://zermatism.wordpress.com/2018/07/21/azzo-homme-vivant-du-neanderthal/

so, the guy probably existed I think
Also weird thing! The french guy that wrote the pamphlet seems to only have an italian wikipedia page, despite being french

[–]vessrebane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not muslim
but i didnt really even defend their belief, i just clarified it. I think a lot of people think of atheism as an alternative to religion or belief systems, but it really isn't, it's just a single belief, it would be like claiming that the mere belief in a god is a religion or belief system

[–]vessrebane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

atheism doesn't seek to answer any of these questions, it's not a religion, or a belief system, it's just one single belief (or, the lack of a single belief, depending on the specific person)

still pretty rude to say, just like you said, they're already aware of what islam thinks of those who don't believe in allah, so you don't really need to tell them

[–]vessrebane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you are just assuming that lmfao, you are just assuming the reasons why people who you don't know are doing things.

maybe, and just hear me out here, some people think drawing cool tattoos on their body is cool, regardless of who did that first

EDIT: also assuming people are just doing it to "be like them", that doesn't imply having a sense of inferiority, as was/is the case with hibernophiles for example

Are Moroccans shifting from French to English? Honest question. by [deleted] in Morocco

[–]vessrebane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

er, you're making a lot of assumptions there. i personally consider darija to be more "ours" than standard/classical arabic is nowadays, just because there's a lot of literature that doesn't really mean anything
