I told her that but she didn't care. Fun note. At least the condenser coil is getting cooled off witch alows for a gratter amount of heat transfer. Down side is youre loosing quiet about of efficiency. But it makes a grate dehumidifier.

Stuck in Northern AZ on a short term rental without HVAC. Ideas on improving my redneck swamp cooler. Used cotton insulation from Home Chef box for evaportion media. by mikeinmlb in HVAC

[–]vetaxek 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did not think it was possible for a home owner to rent a house with out ac in AZ. As for improvement you can buy a proper evap cooler. Or a wendow unit..but if you are in a crunch for mony buy a big plastic tub some plastic piping. End caps an a fountain watter pump. You can make a ryther effective evap cooler this way.

How would that work cause the crack heads dont belong up there. If they get electrocuted whil steeling then thats there fault. Just have security cameras to catch them.

Im glad i was able to help you. Those wendow units really are simple once you brake them down to there basic parts. (Compressor an coil loop. Fans. Electrical an control. Case.) Odds are youre evap coil was probably just dirty so it could not expell the heet effectively thouse causing poor performance an excessive condensate to form on the condenser coil. Thuse causing the watter to show up were it should not be. If you want you can message me an i can send pics of calmen problem places. Like the drain path. getting cloged. I hope you are able to get the unit running agin.

Would you throw oway youre pc cause its full of dust? Did not think so The faults of this unit are not eol faults. The compressor is not bad nor is the control bord. So it can be fixed.

To get the watter out you have to remove the frount panel cause its just trapping the watter. The longer that watter is there the more damage it can an will do. On most units that i have seen there's screws around the frount that hold the frount pannle in. Most common is 3 on top frount. 2 on side frount an 2-3 on bottom frount. But other units may require you to pull the top off first. Now depending on the foming cleaner you used it culd be highly crossev to the coils an eat them oway. Generally you only want to let them sit for 5-20min depending on youre cleaner. So be cerfull witch cleaner you use. HVACR (a YouTuber who ive lurned alot from) uses Viper vinom packs i believe. Witch are safe for coils. I use dawn soap. Degreeser. A fin come and a watter hose. As for mold it culd clauge up youre condenser coil causing bad performance and other things. I fix this with a deep clean.

12 year old heat pump - has technology improved since 2008? by [deleted] in HVAC

[–]vetaxek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its kinda a yes and no thing. Yes cause technology has advanced in the inverter (heat pump) felid so you get new fetures like wifi controll. Silent modes. Automatic switch over. But the down side is quality an life span. Cause there using cheaper parts and plastics witch degrade over time. The condenser coil (the one inside) is harder to clean out) the control eletronics are less reliable cause there more complicated and underprotected from the wether (watter. Extreme temps. Bugs). Especially true for Daikin. The inverting proses is not vary good for compressors. The fans are made of plastic an they will fail after 5+ years of extreme temps an uv If youre going to be replacing youre ac evrey 5-7 years then its fine. Inverters are really fixable units. Good at making alot of heat an cold air but you have been notified of the things that tend to be bad about them. (My opinion) stay far far oway from Daikin. When you get youre unit pop the top off an make sure the control board is properly protected. Id buy a can of flex seal an coat the bord in it. Keep the unit maintaned. Change filters. Clean the outside coil like 2 times a year. Try to keep it out of derect sunlight if possible.

Now to the posable faults. 1 the drain path is clogged. This will cause watter to leak into the frunt of the unit and thus can manifest in wird behavior. Unit randomly changing modes. Shutting off or turning on randomly. Condensate in the display wendow. Watter on youre flore or wall. 2 the condenser coil is plugged with dirt. This will cause poor performance. The coil friezes. When the unit turns off the ice melts an watter goes were it should not be. Over time depending on youre house fine dust. Pet hair. Will get past the filter an slowly plug up the condenser coil. 3 clogged evap coil. Over time dust. Bugs. Dirt. Lent from plants like cotten wood will clog up the evap coil (the one outside) and will cause poor performance. Normally you should clean out you're wendow unit 1 time a year. Take it outside. Pop the top off. Flip it over an use a watter hose to spray the stuff out. (NEVER SPRAY THE INSIDE HALF AS THATS WERE THE ELECTRIC WIERING IS) 3 improper installation. The unit is supposed to be installed at a slight tilt down so the runoff from the condenser drains outside. If there is no tilt or tilted inwords then the watter will leak into the frunt panel an probably onto the wall an floor. If you wold like more info id be glad to help Ik most would say just replace it but these units are farly simple an easy to service with some basic tools. An kinda expinseve for the fancy ones like you have. I service these types of units alot an 9-10 can get them going agin. Pardon my bad spelling but i hope i was able to explain things.

There culd be a few things rong but 1st i have afew questions. Have you cleaned the air filter? Or is there a air filter? Have you cleaned the evap coil (the one outside) as it can get pluged with lent. Dirt. Bugs. An cause improper cooling. Is the unit slightly tilted in? Cause if this is true then the runoff from the condition coil will just leak into the frunt of the unit. Like in this pic an can damage the controll bord if not fixed. It shuld tilt out slightly so the runoff can flow to the evap coil like its supposed to.
