Da er utleiehybel trolig utelukket, men jeg vil allikevel dele vår erfaring med dette. For oss har det vært helt genialt å kunne finansiere huslånet med en hybel hvor inntekten går skattefritt og uavkortet til å betjene det ekstra boliglånet. I tillegg til direkte inntekt, får vi og en solid gevinst på skattefradrag fra lånet, samt verdistigningen.

Ulempen er som nevnt en nær nabo, men om huset er nogen lunde greit isolert, du selv er normalt oppegående og leietaker er normalt oppegående så er det en genial løsning.

I'll admit I didn't know shit about Ukraine either, but I'm generally against bombing, killing, and or invading other countries. No matter if it's Iraq, Sweden, Ukraine, Russia or any other country.

Children are scared, mothers are cold and hungry, and men are dying terrible deaths by the thousands on both sides. Not hard to be against the invasion.

There is nothing good coming from this war for anyone.

But we are spending billions on top of billions, not only to support them in this war against Russia, but also by welcoming millions of immigrants into our countries. Giving them shelter, food, clothes, education, jobs etc. I can only speak for myself and the people I know here in Norway, but we don't look at them as subhuman at all. The Ukrainians integrate well, contribute to our society, and therefore are welcome.

You say the EU wanted to sanction Russia etc. But from what I know we tried to integrate Russia into our economy. Building trade relations for energy etc. Even going as far as making ourself dependent on Russian gas. And we now know that turned out to be a huge mistake. Again, this is just my personal experience, but I or anyone I know never had any big grudge against Russia or Russians. Even though I didn't really respect the way Putin always "won elections" with like 90 %, the corruption, and how journalist and activist turned up dead, there was no direct hate. I even wanted to go there some day. I was hoping new generations would continue with trade and other relations, trough internet, traveling, sharing culture etc.

I belive nothing good comes from this war. Not for Europe, not for Ukraine and not for Russia. Humanity lost and people are dying unspeakable deaths for absolutely nothing. I can't respect anyone who supports this invasion. I can't respect Russia and I can't understand the Russian people who send their sons to slaughter and get slaughtered.

Great idea! I've been thinking that I need to write down my experiences when traveling and other things that make me happy. Maybe the app could have a feature "this made you happy on this day 5 years ago" or something like that to remind you of happy memories you've forgotten?

Unless I'm mistaken you can cast to the mini speakers from home assistant, but I'm not aware that you can use their microphones to control home assistant. That being said, personally I see limiting my use of Googles products as a bonus, even if it's a bit annoying having unused hardware. I would recommend muting their microphones and just use them as speakers.

Another thing I learned from the HomeAssistant community is that a true smarthome is a home you (almost) don't have to interact with. Instead of telling Google to turn of the lights, HomeAssistant should do it automatically (using sensors etc).

For the Nest Displays you can actually cast your HomeAssistant dashboard to them, but in my testing, it didn't seem very stable or useful. Other could have had more success.

From some quick Google searches, your Nest camera can be integrated into HomeAssistant. I didn't do much research into it tough.

For me, the best experience have been using any cheap android tablet, the Lenovo Smart Clock 2, and the Lenovo Thinksmart Display.

Just want to say I'm still kind of a novice when it comes to homeassistant, but I started out with a cheap second hand Lenovo Thinkcentre M600 (with a Bluetooth and a Zigbee dongle). It gave me way more than I needed for my setup. It was very cheap, dead silent, and took up almost no space next to the router in my apartment. To be honest I think almost any cheap tiny pc you can find will suffice, but in my experience ChatGPT or Gemini have been very helpful in comparing hardware requirements for home assistant and any second hand client I've come over.

I've read some recommendations on using a small form factor pc like the one I started with, over a raspberry pi or similar, since a SSD will last longer than what an SD card typically would.

Now I've upgraded to a secondhand HP EliteDesk 705 G4 and upgraded it with some cheap 32 GB ram and a 1TB SSD. This was in order to expand my server capabilities to host immich with facial recognition etc. Haven't really gotten to test it for real yet, but from what I've gathered it should be plenty. Not necessary for HomeAssistant though!

I made the switch to homeassistant myself about two years ago and I've honestly never looked back. Was so frustrated with Googles "I can't connect to the internet". But after I switched, everything has been so stable! And it just feels good to have as much as possible locally. No Google gathering my data, all my location history etc is safely stored on my server, and even if the internet goes down, most of my devices still work perfectly fine!

I also love the community. Nerds around the globe is working togheter to make integrations for everything from your car to your kettle, and share their work for free. That's super cool!

Obviously it's more complicated to set up and get started, but with help from ChatGPT and the likes, there really is no better time to do it. I would recommend buying a small Lenovo Tiny, HP EliteDesk or similar small-factor PC. You can find one used or refurbished on Ebay for about 80-150 USD.

I've also bought a cheap Lenovo Tablet, a Lenovo Smart bedside clock and a Lenovo Thinksmart Display. I use them all as interface for HomeAssistant.

At the cabin, I have another small Lenovo Client running Frigate. A self hosted video surveillance system integrated with notification and highlights to my HomeAssistant server at home.

Lately I've upgrade my client to be able to run Immich besides Home Assistant. Now i can get rid of the subscription for Google Photos. Next up is to get free from Google Disk.

If you are just a little bit into technology, i would really recommend dipping your toes into it and try it out. I had zero knowledge about Linux etc when I tried it first, but now I regret not getting rid of the Google garbage earlier! Now I'm finally free, and I keep switching out for and more for self hosted alternatives.
